Above is the Region 1 DVD that contains the film My Own Private River along with a related short, Idaho. This DVD was originally part of the 4-disc book Moving Pictures/Moving Sculptures: The Films of James Franco (2013) but I only have this one - Disc 3 - and I've already watched it a lot so now here it is for someone else . . .

To create My Own Private River, James Franco combed through hours of unused footage shot by Gus Van Sant for MOPI (1991) - outtakes, deleted scenes, alternate takes, etc - all previously unseen, and then re-edited the story so that it focuses primarily on the wanderings of Mike Waters, the character played by River Phoenix . . .

My Own Private River runs for approximately 102 minutes and contains music from the 2011 R.E.M. album Collapse into Now. So again, to have your username entered in this giveaway just reblog this post at least once (only one entry per blog will be registered) - see notes for more details . . .

Don't forget that there was a point in time where everyone took photos because they wanted to capture the moment and interact with people. Barley anyone promoted a faux image or played "influencer". There was no Instagram filter that made your nose smaller, Tiktok filter that bleached your skin or faceapp to edit your waist, just makeup, wigs, camera angles and whatever harsh vignette filter available in app. Photos were fun and not anxiety inducing, not a job or chore, just something fun for the moment and something to cringe looking back at. Social media is not real life and literally no one cares, just smile. 📸
