Goretober 2022 Day 9: Dark magic

In the whole show,  there was only a few things as fucked-up as the whole “implanting Shiro’s spirit to the body of his clone” business. That body might have been just barely alive at that point but I doubt it was an empty shell - it most likely still contained the consciousness, a consciousness that must have been horribly confused, terrified out of his mind having no idea what happened, only knowing it was something really bad and that he’s dying. Of course the body wasn’t accepting what it rightfully considered a hostile intruder. There was still a person inside, a person who didn’t want to die and who didn’t deserve to be cast aside without a second thought. Of course he was gonna lash out in blind panic like an injured, cornered animal, desperately trying to fight off what for him was possibly yet another nightmare. Seriously. Not cool.

keith + meeting his parents

Theory that in Season 7 Episode 1 after 2 years in the Quantum Abyss Keith was able to see Shiro's dreaming as his consciousness was trying to fight for the clone's body. Keith's facial expressions and reactions after each flash back make it seem like he knew what was going on. Their first words when he came to were, "I was dreaming. You saved me."

"We saved each other."

Which pretty much describes everything about their relationship.

it is so funny to me that shiro is 25. this man was fresh out of grad school and thrown into space. does he get nervous sending professional emails?? has he flooded the laundry room?? how fast did he burn through his dining dollars???

I don't know how the Voltron fandom didn't latch onto Earth is Space Australia and/or Humans are weird as fandom-wide tropes.

Shiro is canonically a champion fighter even by Galra standards, able to keep up with Sendak who was trained personally by Zarkon. Keith goes the furthest in the history of the Blade trials and I don't think that's his Galra blood shining through, that's all the "humans are endurance hunters and basically tracked prey until the prey were exhausted" in him. Canonically Allura and Coran find Earthlings weird.

Voltron canon offers just a small taste of how weird humans are by intergalactic terms and fanfics don't seem to exploit that as fully as they could, especially since I know tumblr has a ton of these types of posts around for inspiration.

As the child of a mother born on the Leap Year, I feel uniquely qualified to write about Shiro

being the Pisces that he is, he needs someone or something to save. all the time. total knight in shining armor complex. if he isn't serving some sort of greater cause (typically multiple causes simultaneously) he feels restless and stagnated. NEEDS to be needed, even if he burns himself out in doing so

similarly, he doesn't like to have people worry about him. sort of stonewalls when it comes to letting other people help him. it's an old habit that ends up hindering him a lot

fear of failure, more specific fear of letting people down. whether it be family, friends, colleagues, superiors- doesn't matter. if he feels like he isn't reaching his potential, it's easy for him to feel like he's worthless

loves to laugh, appreciates a biting sense of humor. fascinated by people who seem like they don't take anything seriously

also frustrated by them :)

cares deeply, cares so much. wishes that he didn't but alas :/

STRONG code of ethics which acts as his guiding light through times of trouble. but if he ever feels like his values aren't being valued or respected on a systemic level (e.g., corruption within an organization) it knocks the wind out of his sails. makes him feel complicit and alone

when he's in a slump/depressive episode, he needs something outside of himself to drag him out of it. has had great success with emotional support animals since he's been discharged as a paladin.

people-oriented, enjoys helping and teaching others, takes it as a point of pride when he can help someone reach a breakthrough in their education.

has a black thumb when it comes to plants but appreciates people who have a knack for growing them, along with the outdoors generally

needs routine in order to cope

does his best work in the morning. wakes up early, goes for a run, comes back to change clothes/shower, and starts on work.

good at reading the room and assessing what people need. has a nose for disingenuousness.

if you want to get on his good side, don't kiss up to him. treat him respectfully and be genuine. the whole black lion/champion thing is something he doesn't want to be put on a pedestal for
