A song that without a doubt in my mind is 100000% a song that fits Dazai feelings towards Oda. This is more of when he knows Oda is dead of course, what Dazai wouldn’t give to just do over everything and meet him again for the first time. If Dazai could live life like that he oddly wouldn’t be upset, Dazai would do anything to have Oda alive and I feel this song really reflects those emotions.

I’ll Be Good - Jaymes Young
This song is everything to do with Dazai and I really cannot express that more. This is totally the one song that if asked what song makes me think of Dazai the most, I’d send this song 100%. Again this song for me has a BIG connection to Oda’s death and the promise he makes, Dazai is trying to be a better man. Dazai is trying to make up for everything he has done, he knows he’s hurt many people and he can’t fix them all but he’ll try his best. Dazai is willing to try and stay alive for keeping Oda’s wishes reality. I feel as well this song links so well with not only his promise to Oda but his future and how he’s trying to help Atsushi. But all and all Dazai is scared of his past, he’s scared of the blood on his hands and knows that will come back and hunt him- but that won’t stop him from TRYING to be a better man.

When he opened the door Chuuya was the last person he thought he’d see, but nevertheless, he grinned. Jumping a little at the box being thrusted at him, shaking his head Osamu very quickly darted after him, “oi Chuuya-kun.” Dazai reached him quickly, “don’t run off like that! It is very rude and mean, I didn’t even get to say thank you!” He fake pouted before switching to a more serious face, “anyway I need to talk with you about something. Can you come back to mine for a moment...please?” The pout was now back, it was rare he used please more so to Chuuya of all people but he had matters to talk about and he’d rather not anyone overhear what he had to say.

Chuuya shoots a harsh glare at that, and he stamps his foot, the ground crushing under the impact. “It’s not funny, you bastard! Half of the damn people in there were murderers! I had to punch them all until they confessed!”
He curses under his breath when he finishes his rant, mumbles something about it being Dazai’s fault in the first place. Because Ranpo had brought Dazai up, it was sort of true, but it was definitely Chuuya’s short temper that had gotten him into that situation.
Dazai’s next works make him wince, but he can’t disagree.
Kouyou’s one of his important people, and he loves her and it makes him sad to think that her most important person has forgotten her, but he knows that Kouyou would definitely be glad if it meant even the slightest more peace to Kyouka.
(Plus, if Kouyou showed up here, then doesn’t that mean they could have a normal relationship? Without Kyouka’s memories of the mafia tainting her thoughts of Kouyou?)
“Stealing memories, though… Along with the kidnapping, and no contact, it’s definitely something big we’re up against.”
He’s prepared to muse on it more, wants to hear Dazai’s thoughts on the matter, but he freezes up at Dazai’s next words. He… doesn’t remember either. Dazai doesn’t remember that his best friend is dead.
“You’re… not fucking with me.” It takes a moment for him to force the words out, like a shocked revelation. “You’re always fucking with me, but even you wouldn’t about Oda… Damn it…” It’s obvious he’s not sure what to make of it.
The fact that Dazai remembers what happens to the kids is different to Oda, at least, but he wonders why he remembers that and not the other part? It makes his head hurt to think about, but Dazai’s own words come to mind–
“perhaps Kyouka-chan forgetting is a good thing, no?”
Perhaps Dazai forgetting is a good thing as well, then. Good for Oda, good for Dazai. Neither of them had to remember those painful things.
…As long as he doesn’t fuck it up, because he just let it slip that something had happened to Oda and Dazai’s looking at him almost worried. The red head curses to himself, tries to backtrack.
“…The kids. He doesn’t remember the kids.” It’s weak, and he expects Dazai to see through him so easily like he always does, but he hopes for once that the bastard does not. Thoughts race through his head, and he tries to come up with something better, something to convince Dazai to move on from the subject.
“You… left with Oda, because of the kids. He wanted to protect other people like he couldn’t them.”
He wonders, quietly, why he’s lying to Dazai so desperately. He does not like the answer he finds, that despite all his flaws, despite their hatred of one another, Dazai was the first thing he had closest to an equal and a friend.
“I’ve not really heard of someone taking memories before so this is new...kinda wish I did know someone who did such a thing would make my head an easier place to be with,” he half-joked but his head was running around thinking of who could it be- who could they be working with. Plus the kidnapping, while he wasn’t overly bothered by himself. He was angry that they’d take Kyouka like that, she was only a child and that made Osamu somewhat anger than he’d like to admit to.
His eyes roll and he shakes his head, “yeah no shit am I not fucking with you- I don’t really have a need to do so right now if you must know.” A weak smile came then, “...I’d never lie when it comes to him and shocking as it might seem I don’t really care to lie to you either, I can fuck around but lying? I’m past that.” Which wasn’t a lie not really, the only lies he really told was to Kunikida and doing work but that didn’t really need to be said right now, did it?
Something seemed off, something about that didn’t seem right. Dazai doesn’t remember leaving with Oda, he only remembers Ango helping him leave the mafia- not that Ango wouldn’t help Oda but why wouldn’t Dazai remember something like Oda leaving as well? Something about that didn’t stick right with him. But Chuuya’s words also seemed very Oda…
A cold stare was given for a moment, “if something has happened you can tell me- I feel like I’d remember that, why would I remember everything but Oda leaving the Mafia?” Dazai shakes his head, “If something has happened...I’d rather hear it from you than anyone else.”

does that mean he had been gone for four years? that explains dazai’s sudden growth spurt… and chuuya’s strange behavior. what about the orphans under his care though? they relied only on him for daily necessities… “what happened?” interjecting someone in the middle of their sentence is not something that saku is proud of, but he needs to know.
grabs dazai by his shoulder to face him, cerulean against brown. the feline before them suddenly forgotten. “sorry, dazai. if i’ve been gone for four years, did someone take care of the orphans?”
“it must’ve been a difficult time for you to be in jail. i should’ve been there as your friend,” gaze lowers to the ground. he really missed four years of everyone’s life, huh… no wonder there was something different with the people he had met. a bitter taste spreads on his tongue as he continues, fingers buried within brunet locks. “i can’t promise you anything, but i’ll try to stay with you while we’re here.”
dazai just looked at oda, something was different. something didn’t seem right and he couldn’t put his finger on what exactly it was. “i-..don’t really remember- i know ango helped me? but..” he also remembers what ango did, was he angry? of course but he also understood after all it was mori fault wasn’t it? mori played ango and dazai couldn’t be angry at anyone but mori. “mori did things... he brought a wedge between us and ango, but..a lot of that is a blur.”
dazai wanted to cry more. he couldn’t tell oda that could he? he couldn’t dare tell oda the truth but...oda had the right to know didn’t he? maybe he could still stop it from happening, oda could maybe live a happy life with the orphans.. “i-..odasaku... i don’t think me telling you the future is wise..” a weak laugh came out, “also you don’t have to be sorry...never be sorry with me okay?”
jail was hard. but he had ango helping him which was not all that bad, “ango..actually has been helping me with the whole jail thing so it’s not been overly bad.” another weak laugh comes out but he also relaxes at oda’s touch, “being here...right now is honestly all i need.”

taking note of the mention of being nervous, hawks made it a point to remain something akin to nonchalant about it after hearing the admission; while he came here with the knowledge that dazai wanted to speak to him about work, it was a broad subject and it could touch on anything. on top of that, it didn’t help that he didn’t know where to place dazai.
“ ah? nervous —? that’s the last thing i’d expect to hear from you, ” it was spoken plainly, almost teasing; however, there was a trace of curiosity in his tone. “ let’s see what i can do about it, then! ” taking the lead to board the trolley, as he’s taking his seat, he adds. “ and if you’ve got cold feet, that’s fine too; i’m not going to make you talk about shit if it has you on edge. ”
dazai chuckled, “oh? you’d be shocked how nervous i can get, more so around handsome people like yourself.~” humming osamu followed along to the trolley- god he was an idiot wasn’t he? he took his seat next to hawks. he couldn’t help but smile at those words, he was grateful to hear that. “i’ll be fine, i’m not one for backing away...i just..i’ve never really done this before.”
