if any of y'all see posts about house m.d on tumblr and think "I wanna watch that" you need to know that you can skip episodes. i would argue skipping certain episodes is vital to having an enjoyable house experience. house md is one of my favorite shows and has been genuinely important to me as an autistic queer chronically ill cane user. it also revels in it's main character being offensive for the sake of being offensive with that special early 2000s flair. if you care about the concept of fatphobia you will be unable to have a uncomplicated relationship with this show. for every earthshatteringly homoerotic hilson moment and every profoundly accurate disabled scene we the viewers must pay in some insane misogyny. that's just how it is on this bitch of a show

in 2015 I needed a job really bad for reasons not worth getting into. i was living in ohio for like 6 months & i just applied at every place within a 30 minute drive from me and i got a call from the local Game Stop mere minutes after submitting the online app, which was obviously a red flag but I wasn’t in the position to be picky.
so they tell me when to show up for orientation & I get there the day-of but the store is closed & locked. i text the manager & he says back “oh yeah. i manage two Game Stops and open them alternate days.”
apparently the Game Stop I originally applied to is open Mondays Wednesdays Fridays and the other one is open Sundays Tuesdays Thursdays Saturdays.
They’re 15 minutes apart. I don’t ask whether it would make sense to just have one store locally that is open daily, bc maybe the guy knows something I don’t.
So I get to the other Game Stop and walk in and it seems like there’s no one working there. There’s just a single woman in there wearing an ankle length leather trench coat. She didn’t greet me when I came in & she’s just browsing.
After ten minutes I ask her if she’s seen any employees and she’s like “oh I’m an employee.” She’s not wearing a name tag on the trench coat.
I tell her I’m here for training and she tells me the manager hasn’t come in yet. “he falls asleep playing xbox all the time but if he’s on live we can try pinging him to wake him up.”
I play Xbox and that absolutely doesn’t sound like a thing you can do in the way she’s describing it but once again maybe she knows something I don’t.
I ask if we have an Xbox that we can use to “ping” him and she says “yeah the one in the back we play on.”
She has an English accent by the way, a very specific & posh one which usually wouldn’t be relevant but we’ll get there.
So before she leads me to the Xbox-in-the-back she goes “oh damn. our internet has actually been down all morning, I forgot. We need to call the provider and have them come out and fix it. Can you do that?”
Can I call an unnamed internet provider and schedule them to come do service at a business where I don’t even technically work yet? Idk. She gives me their number and I call them and they put me on hold.
People are walking in and she’s not greeting them. She keeps browsing and people assume like I did that she’s another customer so they’re coming up to the counter where I’m on hold to ask me for help, and then I have to say I can’t help them and to ask the woman in the trenchcoat, and then she says “we can’t sell you anything. internet’s down.”
this goes on for 30 minutes and every time the store is empty she’s chatting at me and I’m on hold and then a man walks in the door and he says “sorry I fell asleep on live again haahaahaa” so this is the manager and the minute she starts speaking to him she no longer has an English accent which has me confused because it did not sound fake.
It was regionally specific and very natural.
the manager asks what I’m doing and I say I’m on hold with the internet provider and he gives me a thumbs up and walks to the back.
so I ask how long she’s lived in the U.S. and say I’m always interested in the way people can sometimes go in and out of accents and she says “oh I’m American. he asked me to stop doing the accent so I only do it when he’s not here.”
Suddenly I wonder what I’m doing here and I tell her I need to leave and I give no excuse but at this point I didn’t feel like I needed one? She said okay! See you later.
The manager didn’t contact me and that night I got offered some other retail job I jumped on.
Three months later the Game Stop manager texts me and asks if I can cover a shift in an hour and I said “I don’t think I work there? I left an hour into my training. And we never spoke again.” And he texted back haahahaba right on.”
And you may think wow, what a strange experience that all was but recently I have spoken to friends who did work at Game Stop and when I tell them this story they don’t even blink. Nothing I say surprises them. I was at the average Game Stop

we are in dire need of some new media trend. we've done pirates, we've done cowboys; we've gone through two whole zombie revivals. aliens and space themes have basically been a constant since at least the 1950s, as have robots and evil AIs. we went pretty heavy on vampires for a while. we've also done dinosaurs, ninjas, musicals, wizards, sea creatures, ancient rome, ancient egypt, middle ages out the wazoo, entirely too much world war II, we're currently overdosing on our superhero phase, we've done monsters (misunderstood), monsters (radioactive), fake guy in the real world, real guy travels to fake world, caves & mining, vikings, what if you were really small, genre parody as a genre, sand, New York, time travel, something racist goes down in the jungle, neurodivergent detective, buddy cops, crooked cops, gangsters, bank heists in particular, kid has powers, revolt against the corporate world, portals, social insects, dragons, the British, global apocalypse, martial arts, roadtrip as self-discovery, Jesus, clones, clowns, babysitting goes wrong, demonic possession, ghosts of all kinds, talking animals, fucking with the stock market, restaurant ownership, dwarves, planes, and spies. where do we go from here. what's our next big thing

they should replace grades in schools with a point system that has zero bearing on anything, but school points can be redeemed in the cash shop for unique cosmetics for your school avatar (things like hair color and outfits) and skins for your pencils and notebooks and so on. this would be purely visual of course for balance purposes. and universities could have unique university specific cosmetics to encourage people to apply to them

If you are feeling helpless: Ways to help student protests that only require a phone
(For USA but much/most of this likely applies to other countries)
TL;DR make an Instagram and follow local SJP and PYM chapters for instructions. This info will not be posted on Tumblr.
First, going to IRL protests is much lower-risk than Tumblr is making it seem. Especially if you are white or a US citizen and listen to your organizers, you are unlikely to have any convictions on your record, and any such unlikely conviction will most likely get you a few hours in a holding cell and community service, not prison time. Depends on the state but either way, arrest is unlikely especially during daylight hours.
Second, if you are unable to attend protests right now (and while supplies are great, people are needed even more!) there are many other things you can do if you're unable to protest or leave your place of residence.
You can make these phone calls from anywhere. You can call Emory University from NYC and you can call NYU from Oregon. Same with police stations. Ring their phones off the hook.
Jail support (in person, likely in shifts). Supporting comrades in jail with food, etc while they wait to be released on bail. See your local PYM and SJP chapters' Instagrams for how to get involved there. If you don't have an Instagram, make one. Send them a DM on Insta if it's not clear how to get involved.
Call police commissioner and precincts to get charges dropped. Even on the weekend, if people are arrested, SJP and PYM will post phone numbers for local precincts. UT protestors had all charges dropped. Search for "my city precinct phone number" and "my city police commissioner" if you're in a big city there will be multiple precincts, feel free to call all of them if local orgs don't tell you which ones to call.
Call universities where students are protesting, especially if you're at all affiliated, especially especially if you are an alum or have kids in college. Demand that there be no retaliation for protestors. Again, SJP chapters will likely post this info but you can look it up yourself. Specific numbers to look for: president's office, development office
Call local government (mayor, city council, etc.) demanding that city police not infringe on protestors' rights to free speech and demand that any acts of police brutality be condemned and face consequences.
Court support (in person) show support in court for anyone who has court coming up. Usually no phones/electronics/signs allowed, but shows of solidarity appreciated. Local groups will have more info. Again, make an Instagram.
Note: You are not going to turn your mayor, your local police chief, or college intern in the university development office into a leftist with these calls, but these calls can get legal (police) and disciplinary (school) charges dismissed. These are practical calls, not ideological ones.
Remember the reason for these protests: As always, keep calling your government representatives urging them to reinstate funding to UNRWA, ending aid to Israel, supporting Palestinian statehood, and supporting an immediate permanent ceasefire, and anything else you care to add. Make sure to give your name, zip code, and other info so they can document your call.
Other tumblr users, please add anything you think might be helpful.
Don't be paralyzed. Call, complain, threaten to withhold votes and money. If you have a phone, you can do something.
