You will not see the Lady Shireen much in King's Landing. Stannis wants her to be master of her domain (He knows he won't get another child) and this means she's very well-known in Dragonstone, at her mother's lady courts as well.
This changes rapidly when Stannis makes the bastardry public because her domain expands to the whole realm.

Stannis thought Daenerys and Viserys would grow up as guests to the Bravosi as did most of his court. In fact this was true for many years. Braavos really wanted to give a simple life to the last Targaryens, to come full circle in their crusade against slavery.
In fact, Robert thought this as well, which is why he was so angry at Daenerys marrying a warlord. To him it meant a planned declaration.
Willem, perhaps senile, perhaps uneducated, or perhaps too in his feelings of having lost it all, did his best to divest. He paid servants in promises, hoping Doran's military backing would come within a year. Even then, when they were kicked out, several families wanted to raise the pair, but Viserys seeing threats either real or imagined (There must surely be people with a score to set, or people who wanted to sacrifie them, but they were not Westerosi) pulled from every single person. Possibly, some of the "assasins" were charges of these wealthy families trying to track the children.
Even when they were hungry and destitute, dressed in rags, some wealthy merchants and bankers wanted to marry them to their children. Viserys would take their hospitality for a bit then flee, which made a lot of Essosi consider them either grifters or unfaithful, but he was a King. This also meant their accomodatios and clothing became poorer over time. When Viserys would once be gifted silk clothing, eventually it was only linen, and eventually it was only a maid's work at cleaning what he already owned.
Until they met Illyrio, that is, who not only clothed and fed them richly but also had a plan of attack.
Stannis will operate under the assumption that this is true. As does almost everyone on Westeros. If a highborn hears "destitute" they probably hear "with lesser means" or "works for a living" or "lessened to a not-noble class" at worst. Even Doran himself, I think.
Stannis is also not the person to have this conversation with. He'll be harsh, and also, will probably tell Daenerys Dorne never meant them help and that the marriage pact is not real, because it's simply ridiculous. So will most loyalists.

The things that got Stannis to want Melissandre are twofold:
Her bond with Selyse (It's not cheating if you take your wife with you)
Her skill and sense of self. Stannis feels himself a very empty person.
Her looks had nothing to do with it and in fact if she wore those revealing outfits people always draw her in, it would be something he dislikes or even hates. He does not think it his place to comment on her dressage but it's definitely not his favorite.

And how they do. Even feats from living memory become a mixture of ideality, unreality, and remembrance to so many faster than a sunset in winter. Perhaps it was a quality of life, that some were unable to separate from the common man.
His lady wife would often remark on the girl's perceptiveness to him, and she was not wrong. The book she was holding did have quite a bit of myth in it, often touted as history by fools, but as he often did he wished they were close enough so he could prod further. In the context they were living in, with people treating him as an inheritor to fire and shadow (A rumor fanned from his own self) but they were some harsher ones, like the Lannisters lies over control, truth, blood. Was there anything his daughter could relate to her current experience?
"They do, child. There are some tells for lies though, truth can leave a small but noticeable print in myth." He added, looking directly at her book. Some applied to his own campaign, if you looked hard enough. It might be invisible for nobody truly cared for the person they flew their banners under. "Have you spotted it?"

Despite copper and other metals being more refined for the highborn, Selyse insists that food for her family be made in an iron skillet. He eats so little he gets more benefits from that. It started as something she did for Stannis because he looked so terrible when they married but she kept the habit for her daughter and herself.

Modern AU Stan is literally in a polycule with Dav.os, Sel.yse, and Mel. Dave is still married to Marya who has her own side-partner. Salla is a thing everyone is ??? on at the time. Does this mean Stan is better at relationships in modern? No. But is his life better? Also no. Big mess, but a welcome one in his life. Born out of a lot of love.
