ACTUALLY Laerryn's actions in episode 2 are not at all condemnable because they're the high fantasy equivalent of like. You've finished your super cool piece of code and it's actually passed all its unit tests this time, but when you try to run your first integration tests then it all works perfectly except it slows your system to a crawl. So you (a non-habitual Windows user) grudgingly open up task manager and see that some unrelated system file with all numbers in the name and a file extension you don't recognise is taking up a huge amount of your CPU and memory. You Google it and get no clear documentation, and so you check Stack Exchange and there's like 2 answers saying "don't uninstall this" with no good explanation. So you're like "well how bad can it be" and you kill the process, and your code starts running perfectly! You tell your friends about it! It's great! Then you find an ancient forum post that's like "hey don't do this it will brick your computer, here's why" and you find out the file you stopped running was actually a crucial, load-bearing component of your antivirus software
Anyway, the moral of Calamity is that you should be running your flying cities on Linux. What was I saying
Anywho Ashton has always agreed with Orym that the ruby vanguard is bad even though he doesn’t like the gods and has frequently opened himself to Orym as a support if he needs one and idk why we’re acting like he hasn’t been on Orym’s side or vocally anti vanguard this whole time? Like yeah they’ve got low charisma and Orym may think Ashton wouldn’t be there for him for whatever reason, but I thought we as an audience knew that Ashton is 100% on Orym side. Idk man I’ve seen so many Orym and Ashton takes I deeply disagree with over the past few days I may need to just ignore them cause wtf man
I again think that the reason Orym isn’t reaching out to the hells (specifically fearne and Ashton) and is instead reaching out to Dorian is cause he doesn’t know if he’ll get a response and its safer that way, and if he does get a response he doesn’t need to reply for 24 hours and that gives him time to compartmentalize. Also cause sometimes you just need to talk to someone who isn’t around you 24/7 to not go crazy. I think it’d be so juicy if Dorian showed up and joins the hells again and suddenly Orym shells up with him as well. Cause with Dorian in it, Orym would have to be strong for him now too. And suddenly he won’t have anyone to turn to cause he has to be the strong pillar (even if Ashton tells him he’s gets that its hard and he’s allowed not to be the strong one.) And to him being the strong one means being silent and holding it in to protect those around you.
I feel like holding this all in isn’t gonna make him explode but it will make him crumble. Hell, its already making him crumble.
I think a lot of the meta about Orym forgets that Orym isn't just an adventurer, he is a former bodyguard. His self worth is tied up in how well he can protect people and especially his loved ones. Thats why he sold his future to a hag, because its all he had left to give in order to be able to help.
Thats also why he seems so angry after FCG's death.
Otohan has killed his husband and father. Then him. Then he is brought back and told she also killed Fearne and Laudna. She killed Eshteross. She almost kills Keyleth. Now FCG has to sacrifice himself to save them all and kill Otohan and Orym was knocked out for it.
His job is to protect people and even with the added power from Nana Morri, it's still not enough. 6 years later and his loved ones are still dying and he can do nothing but watch.
Liliana was planned to be the "vessel" for Predathos, a role she accepted partly out of fear that Luda would try to use Imogen if she refused. Fearne was intentionally had to be a fey ruidisborn, for reasons that aren't yet clear. Ashton was, according to Evontra'vir, fated to take the shard of Ka'Mort and awaken it. FCG was specifically designed to be a killer robot. Laudna was born with some sort of power, chosen by the Briarwoods to double Vex, and then chosen by Delilah again to carry her soul. it so perfectly fits their "party of NPCs" nature. they were chosen, but not because they're destined for greatness; because they're expected to be a useful tool for someone or something else.
“I think the answer to that is, yes and no. There are particular moments, I have discovered, in a person's life where they have to decide what they're going to do next. They often start this way, although at a smaller scale. I think I need to sleep. I think I need this headache to go away. I think I need to break something, and then, you know, I think in the morning start having some thoughts about who we're going to be next.”-Ashton Greymoore
ashton hugging fearne when their group met up again...fearne grabbing ashton's hand and saying 'don't let me float away please' and ashton immediately saying 'gotcha'...they're both so impulsive especially when left alone together and it's a little scary but there is something so important about their solidarity to me personally
