Hiya!!
Wanted to ask a small question of:
💻 a subject/field you wish you could get into if you could? If you’re already in the field, what was your 2nd choice?
Thank you! 💗
I'd love to do something in software or game development! That's what I hope to do when I get out of college. Outside of compsci, astronomy has always seemed cool, but I never had time to study it. Thanks for asking me this!

🌻 Week 4 🌻 9/25/2023 🌻
Tumblr media
It's finally autumn here! This week I did a bit more writing than I've done the past few weeks, and I really struggled with it, which is weird because I wrote way more last semester and didn't seem to have too many problems with it! But now that I have plans for improving, both in writing and in other areas, I think I have a better chance of succeeding academically than I did before.
Tumblr media
This week
- completed paper for writing class
- watched films for writing and gender classes
- took assembly launguage & math quizzes
- worked on reflection activity

UNIX vs Linux
Tumblr media
While studying my first lecture of the Linux course, I noticed that the lecture notes always referred to Linux (UNIX). This made me confused about whether Linux and UNIX are the same thing. After conducting some research, here's what I found:
UNIX was created before Linux. UNIX is an operating system that was developed in the 1960s and 1970s at Bell Labs. It was designed to be a portable, multi-user, and multitasking operating system. UNIX became widely adopted and influenced the development of many other operating systems, including Linux.
On the other hand, Linux was created in 1991 by Linus Torvalds as a free and open-source operating system. Linus Torvalds developed the Linux kernel, which is the core component of the operating system. Linux was inspired by UNIX and aimed to provide similar functionality and design principles while being accessible to a broader audience.
There are some key differences between the two:
Licensing: UNIX is a proprietary operating system, and its source code is not freely available. In contrast, Linux is open-source, which means its source code is available for anyone.
Kernel Design: The kernel design of UNIX and Linux differs. UNIX typically uses a monolithic kernel. Linux, on the other hand, uses a modular monolithic kernel.(I'll explain this in another post)
Command Line Interface: While both UNIX and Linux provide a command line interface, UNIX systems often have their own set of commands and tools, while Linux distributions commonly include the GNU utilities, which provide a comprehensive set of command-line tools.
Availability and Community Support: UNIX is typically associated with commercial offerings from companies . In contrast, Linux has a wide range of distributions that are freely available and supported by vibrant communities.

gloomy autumn journaling challenge
Tumblr media
a small intro!
hello everyone, it's ya girl yughost here with a small autumn challenge that might be of interest to some of you! those of you that follow me might remember that i recently finished the 100 day productivity challenge, which felt very rewarding, but also left me thinking "okay, what now?". even though the challenge took me over a year to complete, i realised how much i managed to document over the past year, so i thought it would be fun to do something similar, with a more gloomy feel just in time for the cold season.
this idea stems from the many "vlogtober" videos i've watched, as well as the autumn cozy studyblr challenges i've seen during my time here on tumblr.
info.
the challenge begins on september 23rd and ends on december 22nd
please reblog this post if you wish to participate!
this is not a productivity/studying challenge but rather a "diary/journal" challenge (images+"what i did today/how i felt etc."). however, you can treat it as one if you so wish!!!
the reason i've named it a "gloomy challenge" is to encourage low light/moody photographs: in the coming days where it will soon become dark at 4PM, it will probably be difficult to take bright photos, therefore i encourage everyone that partakes to not worry if their photos turn out bright or not - 'tis the spirit, after all!
you don't have to post every day! post however often you want! you don't have to start on the first day either - join whenever!
tag your posts with #gloomychallenge si i can keep track of all your posts and reblog them <3
the point.
the reason for this challenge existing in the first place is to try and document this autumn as much as possible! i scarcely do any "autumn activities" other than just looking at the leaves and trees in the yard, trying to burn the images into my eyeballs, so i thought i'd make this autumn more interactive for myself and see if anyone else wants to join the ride. the point is to be cozy, have fun and make some memories in the process :)
good luck and feel free to send me an ask if you wish <3

I met with old secondary school mates today at my church and when it was my turn to explain what I do as a job, they were like “HUH? We thought you would be into fashion or something arty?!” Confused and shocked I’m into computer science! 😳
I want to push for ‘you can be a super girly pink lover hyper feminine fashion girl and still be into computer science’. Most of my projects are cutesy-pink stuff, occasionally I do other colour scheme and themes, but it’s also what makes me happy so I continue making them! 🤭💻
Keep doing what you like in your own style. Don’t become something else because you’re part of a community and you want to “fit in”. I did that at the beginning and I hated it. I get judged now for how I do my programming but it’s just me adding my own twist to things! I may not be doing it the “right” way but it’s all fun and I’m learning! 😸💗

All my classes seem a bit more fun than last semester, so I'm looking forward to these next few months.
