HEADCANON TIME
Tumblr media
Sarah's mother died when she was still a baby, since then Severus raised her alone keeping the woman's identity a secret.
Severus does everything to protect his daughter. He can end up being too overprotective.
Sarah has been taking Potions lessons with her father since she was very young, which made her fall in love with the subject. Severus taught his daughter all his secrets as a potionist.
Severus was a very strict but at the same time extremely loving father. He wanted to give his daughter the love he never had.
Snape's favorite moments with his daughter were when he fixed her hair. Sarah kept doing braids as an habit.
Like her father, Sarah is very advanced in her studies, and entered Hogwarts knowing more than most wizards her age.
Severus always made sure Sarah was up to date with Muggle customs, as he didn't want his daughter to grow up with the wrong ideals of blood supremacy. He demanded small household chores for the girl, like washing the dishes and tidying up the room. He also made sure that Sarah had access to Muggle culture, taking her to the theaters, museums and the zoo.
Sarah ended up falling in love with various Muggle customs. She loved action and fantasy movies, and had an obsession with rock music.
Severus doesn't allow Sarah to sleep late, he always made sure Sarah had a good night's sleep, with a strict curfew.
Sarah grew up not being able to leave the house much, as her father believed it was unsafe. This made it very difficult for her to socialize. She always felt awkward around people.
Even though she isn't very social Sarah is very curious. She always make sure to explore everywhere she goes.
Snape is quite controlling, which often causes conflict with his daughter, who has a very strong personality.
Sarah only accepts comfort when anyone is looking. She is a tough girl, but always runs to her father for comfort.
Snape loves to write and is working on an authorial book. The love for writing was passed on to Sarah, who adores writing in her diary.
Sarah is extremely hyperactive. Severus learned to be a patient and creative person in order to deal with his daughter.
Here are some sneak peeks of our duo. There's still more to come, and more to discover. Remember I'm always open for ideas!

The fact that Snape was such a good spy that even some of the readers still believe him to be bad is honestly astonishing and he should receive an award (preferably an Order of Merlin 1st Class)

Young Snape sketches, I got inspired by some of the fan art I saw on Pinterest (I don’t have the artists username or els I would credit them for the inspiration). I love the idea of him wearing a purple blouse and the giant over coat so I messed around with it and this was one of the better sketch sets I did of it.
I just imagine him wearing to big of pants for him that he rolls up and pins and wears a belt for along with his dads old work coat and of course his mother’s blouse.

Some subtle clues in text that Severus Snape felt ashamed of being a DE in past.
#1. Goblet of Fire - The Egg and the Eye
‘Course Dumbledore trusts you,’ growled Moody. ‘He’s a trusting man, isn’t he? Believes in second chances. But me – I say there are spots that don’t come off, Snape. Spots that never come off, d’you know what I mean?’
Snape suddenly did something very strange. He seized his left forearm convulsively with his right hand, as though something on it had hurt him.
Moody laughed. ‘Get back to bed, Snape.’
‘You don’t have the authority to send me anywhere!’ Snape hissed, letting go of his arm as though angry with himself.
(See, he feels ashamed of having that Dark Mark, he feels “angry with himself” for being a DE in the past.)
#2. Deathly Hallows - The Prince’s Tale. (although HBP’s timeline)
“Information,” repeated Snape. “You trust him … you do not trust me.”
“It is not a question of trust. I have, as we both know, limited time. It is essential that I give the boy enough information for him to do what he needs to do.”
“And why may I not have the same information?”, asked Snape.
‘I prefer not to put all of my secrets in one basket, particularly not a basket that spends so much time dangling on the arm of Lord Voldemort.’, said Dumbledore
‘Which I do on your orders!’
( He felt he deserved to know about the information because he was a true Order member at heart. He doesn't want to associate with Voldemort at all but he has to do it only because Dumbledore wants him to spy on Voldemort. He does not want to “dangle on the arms of Voldemort” even as a spy. He wants to completely dissociate himself from DEs.)
#3. Deathly Hallows - Sacking of Severus Snape
‘I was under the impression,’ said Snape, ‘that Alecto had apprehended an intruder.’
‘Really?’ said Professor McGonagall. ‘And what gave you that impression?’
Snape made a slight flexing movement of his left arm, where the Dark Mark was branded into his skin.
‘Oh, but naturally,’ said Professor McGonagall. ‘You Death Eaters have your own private means of communication, I forgot.’
( He is so ashamed of having that Dark Mark that he just merely hints at it in a very subtle and physical way rather than acknowledging it with words. Up till that point, he was answering in words.)
These are three of the instances that indicate how much Severus Snape, after change of sides, loathed to be even associated with Voldemort and his Death Eaters, to a point where he felt ashamed to acknowledge his Dark Mark! He merely hinted at his Dark Mark, in a very subtle and physical way, rather than flaunt it using words. How much Severus didn’t want to “dangle on the arm of Lord Voldemort” even as a spy but he didn’t really have much of a choice, did he? —
“Well, you don’t just hand in your resignation to Voldemort. It’s either a lifetime of service or death”.
To Severus, a third option - being a double agent spy pretending to be Voldemort’s supporter whilst actually secretly working against him - was presented by Dumbledore, which he agreed to do not once but twice (1st war and 2nd war).
But Severus was a human, afterall. Even the pretense of supporting the evil could be very taxing and it’s evident from the above three instances. You feel sorry for this man but you also know that he was, afterall, paying the price of his own terrible mistake that he commited around couple of decades back as a teenager. You feel sorry for him, but you also feel appreciative of the fact that this man was willing to do and sacrifice anything and everything to atone for his mistake, that he never made excuses or ever backed off from the difficult road of atonement, and in the end, paid even the ultimate price — his life.

Imagine when the Trio blasts Snape against the wall in the Shack. Everyone discovers Pettigrew was guilty etc. Then Lupin goes to look over Snape, checks his pulse and
"Oh God. I can’t feel his pulse."
They try to revive him, but they quickly abandon. Hermione mutters "P-Professor?" with a shaky voice and tears in her eyes, while Harry stares in shock at the marble-white, unresponsive figure of his now dead potions teacher. The same who’d saved his life just two years ago.
Imagine the Trio had accidentely killed Snape and they’d all left him lying there, uncaring, while his brain swelled and underwent necrosis, his heart gave the last pumps of its life, his systems shut down one after the other and he slipped away.
Or imagine him remaining crippled after all the concussions the Trio and Sirius have given him that night.
Or falling into a coma.
Now that shit would be traumatizing and tragic.
McGonagall, Hagrid and Dumbledore would be devastated. All the Slytherins would mourn... especially Draco.
The Trio has just... killed one of their last hopes to win the war. No spy, no one to save either Katie Bell, the children in the Department of Mysteries, or Dumbledore...
Killing Snape, getting him crippled, in vegetative state or in a coma by accident, as he was trying to save Harry and his friends from Lupin and Sirius Black.

A couple things I've been thinking about Snape and clothing.
So, I've seen some Snaters try to claim there's not evidence he was (physically) abused as a kid.
There is though.
JKR mentions Sev as a child wearing an oversized coat despite appearing to be hot and uncomfortable in it. This is a pretty specific thing to point out. Not the coat necessarily, but that he's obviously hot, and uncomfortable, but wearing it anyway.
It's implying there's probably an unusual reason for wearing it since it's not the weather for it.
Given the context she's most certainly implying that Severus is wearing the coat to hide his arms.
It makes me imagine that maybe mum's told him he's not to go out with bare arms if they're bruised- or maybe Toby told him, or Sev just started doing it on his own because he was ashamed of the marks, or because he's heard of other neighborhood kids disappearing via social services, or whatever reason.
My imaginings aside it's still obvious to me that pointing out the coat was pointing out a sign of physical abuse.
So the next part is about Alan Rickman stating he picked the extra long sleeves and buttoned up clothes to symbolize hiding secrets and that kind of thing.
In fandom Snape most often seems to be drawn in similar clothing. I've seen head canons also attribute his need to cover himself so thoroughly as a trauma response from James' sexual assault. I like all of these. They all make sense.
But consider- wearing long sleeves and a lot of clothing/layers to hide goes back even further than that. It goes back to wearing that big old coat when he was a kid. He feels safer and more comfortable wearing long sleeves than not.
You see, they've kept his secrets for a very long time.
