Hi Smokey I hope you’re doing well!! Do you have any plans to continue your liveblog of TLOK? I know you’re busy with school, but I was just wondering about it and figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask :)
Hi! First of all, I never like to abandon things, so I can definitely say that yes, I will continue TLOK at some point, no matter what.
If I'm completely honest, I don't know how on earth I managed to watch A:TLA like I did, what with the speed of episodes and how many posts I made about each one. When I do return, it'll likely be structured a little differently, but that's not really important right now anyway.
Again, yes. Currently my plans right now are to get through this semester and then start watching again next semester, which will be my final in college and therefore be less demanding.
I do apologize for how long this is taking lmao, I never meant to take such a long break. I won't forget, I swear!

I personally use https://soap2day.to for liveblogging. Though I use Firefox with an ad-blocker, so no clue how bad the ads and pop up’s are.
I've also used that site before, and it works fairly well for me, but it's got no subtitles.... I'm gonna cry.
I appreciate you sending me this, though!

Hi Smokey! Sorry to hear you’re having troubles with the subtitles. I’m just wondering what are your first impressions of Korra so far? What do you think of the post-war world? Are there any other characters you had strong impressions of so far?
Hey there!
Something that I find interesting is that while Aang and Korra are clearly different, they both share a sense of wonder at the world in this first episode. Aang because he's literally been gone for one-hundred years, and Korra because she's seemingly not often been let out of the fortress that she's trained in, let alone away from the Water Tribe's territory. I like that there's similarities.
The post-war world is gorgeous, but unsettling?? Kind of?? I feel like, what with the homeless comment, that Empire City in particular is going to be a nice front with lots of unsettling truths on the inside. There’s always going to be evil around, but this time, it’s not going to be so easy to find.
As for the characters: I love Lin already, even with just the one scene of her. I see a lot of Toph in her (-affectionate) and I’ll bet she comes around on Korra eventually. Tenzin is also oddly relatable?? And the perfect candidate to have the Air Nomads live on, I think. I’m excited for both of these characters’ ups and downs.

I think firefox allows screenshots on netflix
I've heard that, too, and I plan on looking into it, but Netflix is going to be one of my last resorts, tbh. Plus I try not to do most of my live-blogging on my laptop - slows down the process a bit. But thank you for letting me know!

Okay, so I’m going to try and find somewhere that has subtitles. Netflix, as some people have suggested, has them, yes, but it doesn’t allow screenshots, which is my second problem lmao. Same thing with Paramount Plus, which would’ve been nice, as my family has an account for that one. I’ll keep you updated, but I probably won’t be able to find one for tomorrow.
I’ll let you guys know when I’ve got one, and when I can resume watching. At least I got to see one episode..?
….Well shoot.
So. The subtitles are only available for episode one, so I’m back at square one with no subtitles. This gives me two options.
1. I keep looking around for somewhere that gives me a) subtitles for the entire series and b) allows me to take screenshots (a combination that is, apparently, unfathomably rare).
2. I watch without subtitles and write the necessary context quotes in along with my liveblog. This would probably result in less posts overall, and a slower liveblog altogether.
What would you guys prefer?

What do you think about Korra being a Sassy little Prodigy of bending ever since she was a little girl?
I think it's very realistic of, like, a five year-old or however young she was when she had that realization. Especially after Aang.
Aang is one of the most - if not the most - influential Avatars that have ever existed, and any kid growing up after his death would covet that position, I think. Korra also just seems to be genuinely an excitable person, and being the Avatar is a sense of pride for her. I also think it's a very fun contrast to Aang's sad acceptance of his own fate.

You know that Korra would have flipped the bird if not for the age rating.
That's what happened in my heart, too.

p.s. ur bio may need a small update :))
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you're just as excited as I am! This is going to be so fun.
Also, thanks for the reminder, lol. I never remember to change that.

Bryke have always said they based the world of LoK on the 1920s, and Republic City was based on New York and Shanghai. Since it's about 70-ish years after ATLA, that would put ATLA in roughly the 1850s or so, if you wanted to compare the technological advances to our world!
omfg I'm gonna lose my mind because look at this.
Tumblr media
1850s would make so much SENSE BECAUSE THEY'D BE BEHIND BECAUSE THERE'D BEEN A WAR THAT LASTED ONE-HUNDRED YEARS......... OF COURSE THAT'D PUT A STOP ON MOST IMPROVEMENT AND JUST. WHY IS THIS THE THING THAT'S SPAZZING ME OUT.

Atla already had blimps and submarines and air coolers (that prison torture room). I can see the progress in 60+ years
Yeah, it's really cool to see an industrial world that also includes bending. Very realistic, I think.

Okay, well, there we go!
That was a good first episode, I think. It introduced the major characters, the major setting, the villain, and the potential conflicts all really well, and I really can’t wait to see Korra in action as she learns to deal with these things.
What’s super interesting already is that it seems like this villain is going to lean very heavily on the political side of things, which, nothing against Korra, but I feel like Aang would be better eqquiped to deal with that sort of thing, and, ironically, Korra might’ve been better suited for the Hundred-Year war. I’m already loving how different she is - because that’s important - and in a way, she’s starting this story in the opposite place Aang started his. That’s awesome.
Welp. Next episode will be here on Tuesday!

......Uh-oh. Bad guy time.
Looks like I was right about Amon, a assumed non-bender, is going to be the villain. Hoo boy.

That was!!! A good speech, actually, I'm proud!! Doesn't give any promises she might not be able to keep, but she was honest and excited. I love her so much already.

Oh, god. We've progressed to the point where reporters exist. I'm so sorry, Korra.
