i’ve been thinking about bowsers little musical number ever since jack black teased he’d be doing some rocking in the movie (and it was also revealed that Toad has a song of his own which is already awesome), so here’s some of my thoughts on how bowsers musical debut could go down:
as soon as i heard about the possibility of bowser rocking, i instantly knew it had the potential to be a fun/energized scene. Then, I started wondering if the music would be something along the lines of 80’s/90’s rock (We Will Rock you - Queen, Highway To Hell - AC/DC, Crazy Train - Ozzy Osbourne), Broadway-theatre-type villain songs, or even the sort of style from “How Bad Can I Be” (Lorax). I also thought of the possibility of the writers including some ‘Mario Game Music’ into it, like BOWSERS THEME “A Boss Approaches” from Super Mario 3D World - (could you imagine how that would sound if it were played cinematically?? the jazz/saxophones paired with rock?!?). It’s definitely going to be some sort of “villain melody” which i’m really looking forward to, and if by any chance he sings, the lyrics will most likely be about word domination and capturing the stars from the other Kingdoms - i could see the lyrical style having a dark-ish comedic tone. Like, it’s a fun song and all but the lyrics are about wrecking kingdoms and “ruling the world” lol.
It’d also be really cool if it includes some ‘spiffy dialogue’ in between lyrics (like, you know how a character in a film will give some one-liners while the other character sings? something like that!) - if it were to go down this route, I definitely could see Luigi and Bowser having some sort of duet lol. ((Bowser having his ‘villain monologue’ moment and Luigi offering some comedic dialogue/one-liners 👌)). It would be fun to see the contrasting personalities between these two characters paired together, which is why i think a Bowser/Luigi duet could really work. It could also tie into their character arcs, (i’ve heard theories where Luigi will attempt to help Bowser become a good guy, or just try to talk him down from his whole “world domination” plan, which could make for an interesting duet sequence!)
anyways, the mario movie having a musical side to it is the cherry on top for me, and i really can’t wait to see what the movie has in store for us!
