WoW Fanfic: Chapter 1
The night began falling around them. Quietly, the purple-pink embrace of it fell to the mountains on the north. There was still plenty of light, but the area took on that nightly mantle and everything seemed warmer somehow.
She looked from her place to the settlement below. A wooden barricade, with a massive wooden gate protected by a small group of soldiers, protected a small castle, a church, and a bunch of smaller barracks for the soldiers and civilians, and other few houses to infirmaries and such. This human settlement would easily be missed in the middle of the woods at the base of such a mountain.
We are ready mam’. The Mage has just began setting the portal and is waiting for your order.
In a minute - said a strong, loud voice behind her - Let us be.
The blood elf mage obeyed the the Tauren. The Tauren was massive, but his face and eyes were kind. Dressed in leather armour, decorated with feathers on his shoulders and belt, he carried a huge totem on his back. He walked slowly, but still his steps were heard
Elladana, what’s wrong?
Why here? Why is she making us attack this piece of nowhere?
Distribution routes and an Azerite deposit.
Excuses Mo’Taros.
Not now Elladana. We have a lot to do, and we better do it without calling for attention.
A bush moved ever so slightly, calling their attention. With a swooshing sound, a small goblin, dressed in greenish black leather, engineering googles and two daggers that looked like the size of his legs hanging on his belts, let himself be shown.
You need to learn to have secret gatherings you too.
Have you inspected the surroundings properly, Grixle Briskwick? - the name coming out slowly almost  with disdain.
The goblin adjusted his daggers in his belt, grinning. The Tauren kept his best poker facer.
Report - she said coldly, not willing to loose any more time with this issue.
Outside, one guard in each wall, rotating clockwise each hour, until they reach the entrance and are relieved. - He got close to the edge to point things out - One archer in each tower, ten in total. The map we were given puts us in the middle of the this tiny square where they have some weaponry, armoury and there is a VERY small deposit of Azerite. Doesn’t seem worth the trouble if you ask me.
Worthy to her - Said the blood elf, eyes semi closed in a fit of rage.
They turned around and went to meet the others in the clearing. A small group of everything the Horde hat to offer. Orc shamans and warriors, a few troll hunters, some goblin and a bunch of undead rangers picked by Sylvanas. A couple of blood elf mages were working on the portal.
The plan we are going to perform was created by me. So sorry if it fails. The portal shall be opened in the middle of that squared, right in from of the human church. - Her voice echoing among them, cold but expectant.
I will be attacking the tower with the few druids here. We will use our flight forms to reach the towers and then quickly kill the archers in there. - said Mo’Taros - What little seconds we give you, is what we can. We will then meet you in the bubble, or cause chaos from above.
The bubble that I will have created by being the first one in the portal. I can keep the bubble for a few minutes depending on the amount of fire they shoot it down with. As such, rangers and shamans shall go next. Rangers, kill them all, shamans, burn it down. Everyone else will go 30 seconds after them to finish everything else. As soon as I loose the bubble, feel free to explore the keep.
Note - screamed the goblin in his nasal voice - The keep itself is only for us, the members of the Horde’s Elite, to breach. No matter what goes, you do not go inside.
Everyone seemed suspicious, but the state of things in the horde right now was clear: make no questions, obey.
People began forming a sort of line behind them. On the edge, Mo’Taros was looking back at her. At the rage in her eyes. “Teldrassil was hard on her. All those screams, the darkness of it, it seeped onto her…” He then recalled his spell, and while hunching back while is arms quickly grew feathers and turned into wings. He took one last look at her. “The fall of the Lick King. That’s the last time she was so much inside her head”. He took flight with the other druids.
- Align! - she screamed.
“Coward. How can I be here, following her command. Helping her out with her plots. How many more children and old will die today? Probably told her rangers to cannibalise the dead and regurgitate it to her to patch up bodies or some…”
The first sounds of war cried and war horns snapped her out. A light blue portal was slowly spinning in front of her.
On me!
She stepped in the portal. Everyone was mostly facing the walls as the druids attacked the towers, not minding the big blue light in right in the middle to their camp. People were running around scared. Women, pushing their children were running to the keep. “Idiots”. As soon as she completely  stepped out, she muttered a few words and began compressing light around her into a bright yellow barrier. The barrier shined strong and right on queue, the rangers and shamans came out of the portal.
A few guards called out to the bubble. Soldiers came to the barrier, shooting arrows, some even stone stones, a few mages trying to despell it. As instructed, Rangers took on the mages and healers first. The first array of arrows showed them why they were so trusted by Sylvanas.  Only a handful of mages, and a pair of priests were spared. The Shamans on their end, focused on the buildings. Every log of wood would burn. Took then a couple of minutes to burn the small square they were on.
The rest of the group was now in the square. She could have keep the bubble but it made no sense anymore. She lowered her arms and looked around. Soldiers fighting for their lives. Civilians running around, some hiding behind anything they could.
A small girl was hiding behind a barrel, screaming something. “Probably for her mom”. An undead approached the girl from behind, dagger in hand, licking what was left of his upper lip. Elladana stretched her right hand, now engulfed in shadows, creating a spinning bolt of pure shadow right in front of the undead face.
Kill this girl, or any other child, and you will die your last death.
This said, she released the bolt, passing inches from the undead’s head and piercing an Alliance’s soldier head. “Tell the others”, she ordered.
As she was ordered, she moved to the keep. She used her anger now. Pure shadow killing, moving behind her wake. Her footsteps released black smoke, increasing the blob right behind her. It would pierce through the armour of any human trying to defend the keep. She stepped in the keep. MoTaros’ was now behind her and as she felt a breeze in her ankles, she knew Grixle was going up ahead.
“Humanly lavish, I guess”. Brown carpets dropped the walls, with statues of older armours decorating the end of halls and rooms. Several glass display stands showed small archeological discoveries these humans must have made in zone. “Mostly Kaldorei”. She entered the main keep room. A huge table full of documents and five wooden chairs decorated with jewels on the top of it was on an elevated platform. Many more simple chairs were placed below. A briefing room. At one of the edges of the table, a black book. “Mo’Taros, keep watch”. Mo’Taros took his totem from his back, landing it on the floor with a big thump, announcing himself.
Elladana stepped in the platform slowly, never taking her eye from the book. The routing and distribution ledger of High Exarch Maluriko. A rather ingenious Dranei who quickly rose in the Alliance ranks due to his efforts and cunning smarts. Some saw him a hero, other a dangerous zealot. Nevertheless, his skills were useful and required. This ledger probably had a few good routes and tricks to more around Azerite.
From the corner of her eye she saw a big silver sword swinging in her direction. She quickly turned to it, stretching both her hands creating a barrier of light strong enough to receive the blow. The strike echoed in the room, sending loose papers in the table flying. As the Draenei was lifting his sword for a new attack, a huge Tauren totem hit his head, bashing hit against the wall. “Leave him to die. We have the book”. She turned around coldly. She picked up the book and moved away from the keep.
As she left the keep, a group of women, children and old men and women were gathered, seated in front of the keep. She looked at them, and with the little human tongue she remembered, spoke to them:
I’m Elladana BloodFury. You will not be hurt. We will leave as soon as a new portal opens. -  A new portal began swirling in the old one’s place - As soon as we leave, you can disperse, take care of your injured, and call for aid.
As the soldiers were leaving, she stared at the ledger. “Can I deliver this”? Her thoughts were running to Teldrassil. The smell of burning bodies and wood, the screams echoing in her mind…
We have to deliver it - said the Tauren, placing his hand on her shoulder.
I know. We need to keep it up. For the Horde.
She looked around to the people. Civilians with no chance to fight. “He needs to wake up. He needs to take them to Stormwind”. She looked back to the keep. Quietly, Maluriko was there, watching her leave.
