Buddy Daddies extra materials compilation post (sticky notes, Miri's diary, etc)
The Buddy Daddies website updates every week with some extra material related to the new episode - 1) a sticky note showing their “household communication”, 2) a diary entry written and drawn by Miri.
I’ll be archiving and translating all of these, but I’d rather not make a new post for every single one, so they will all be kept in this big index post!
This post will be updated regularly (under the cut).

Thinking about Steve who has not a single idea about how social media works, but he downloads a few things like Instagram and Twitter only to check in on the kids. Other than that, he has zero knowledge of pop culture and kind of lives in that blissful bubble. Every once in a while, the kids will get a bit exasperated with him, but he enjoys listening to them explain things - and he knows they secretly love being able to rehash all the gossip.
And honestly, being out of the loop has it’s perks. Especially when he’s on a plane to Los Angeles, California to visit the Byers while they’re there for a concert and to do some sightseeing in the meantime. He’s sat next to someone who sits by the window seat but wears a baseball cap and sunglasses, curly hair tied back in a ponytail. He seems strangely on edge - maybe suffering from a hangover or scared of flying.
Steve can’t help but tap him on the arm. When the stranger turns, he has his mouth in a flat line looking strangely done with the conversation before it’s even begun. “Sorry, I was just going to ask if you’re okay,” Steve says.
The man frowns and tilts his head. He hesitates to reply, “Yes, I’m just… a bit on edge.”
“Tell me about it. This is my first time on a plane.”
The stranger’s mouth twitches. “Is it really?”
“Yeah. What about you?” Steve asks.
“I’ve been on hundreds of planes - would rather be on the road though,” the stranger says reaching up to grab at the end of his ponytail and twirl it around his finger.
Steve smiles and replies, “I get that. I’m Steve by the way.” He holds his hand out to the stranger who eyes it wearily.
“Eddie,” he replies quietly and shakes his hand.
Steve gets distracted by the rings on his hands and finds himself asking about them. The stranger looks at him for a moment, and, even with the sunglasses on, Steve can tell Eddie is strangely taken aback. Steve is about to take it back and apologize for… mentioning the rings? But Eddie points to the first one and explains.
The rest of the plane ride goes well, amazingly well even. Steve finds himself chatting away with Eddie and throughly enjoying his company - especially when he holds his hand while the plane takes off. He especially enjoys the moment when Eddie briefly takes his sunglasses out to look at the clouds, and Steve gets to see his beautiful brown eyes.
A range of emotions pass through those eyes before Eddie puts the sunglasses back on. Steve almost asks him to keep them off - entranced by the way they express everything he’s thinking. But that can be a dangerous thing, so he doesn’t press him about it.
When the captain announces that they’re about to land, Steve is truly upset to think about not getting the chance to see Eddie again. Maybe it’s the fact that Steve has taken a risk and finally left Indiana for once or maybe Eddie’s just one of the first people he’s hit it off with in a long time, but Steve asks, “Do you want to get coffee? After we land.”
Eddie’s tongue rests on his top lip, tracing it back and forth as he considers it. He finally responds, “I would love to, but I have an appointment as soon as we land.”
Steve lets the disappointment settle in him but tries his best not to let it show. “It’s alright.”
But Eddie fidgets with his rings, tongue still resting on his top lip as he debates something. “Do you have an Instagram?” He asks.
Steve laughs bashfully. “I do, but I never use it. Well, I do sometimes just to keep track of some kids I used to babysit honestly, like Dustin who I told you about.”
Eddie’s smile turns into a full blown grin. “Of course. Well, do you mind if I get your Instagram so I can message you with when I’m free? I would give you my number but… I’m afraid of it getting out. Not that you would do that but… people listening and whatnot…” Eddie spins his rings so anxiously fast that it makes Steve nearly laugh.
“Yes, I hope I remember it correctly because I didn’t come up with it,” Steve confesses. Eddie passes him his phone with the notes app open. He types in steve.the.hair.harrington and hands the phone back.
Eddie takes it back and laughs as he reads it. “It’s fitting,” he explains and reaches out to mess with a few strands.
“I try my best,” Steve replies with a shrug, wondering how he can get Eddie to touch his hair again.
“My hair stylist would love you,” Eddie says then freezes.
Steve smiles. “You have a hair stylist?”
Eddie struggles to respond but is given an out as the plane finally lands. He’s immediately reaching out to grab Steve’s hand, and he forgets all about the question.
Eddie doesn’t let go until people start making their way off the plane, using his hand to tilt his baseball cap a little lower and tuck in on himself. It’s as if he’s trying to avoid having someone see him, but Steve doesn’t want to pry so he doesn’t ask.
Eddie follows Steve off the plane and glances around once they get to the terminal. Then, he quickly pulls him into a hug and whispers, “Thank you for a normal flight.”
Steve has no idea what he means by that, but he just squeezes him back tighter. Eddie pulls away and lingers in his arms. Steve wants more than anything to take off his sunglasses and look into his eyes again.
There’s a sound of a camera going off that has Eddie jumping away and putting his hands in his pockets. “Think we’re near someone famous?” Steve jokes.
“Oh, I know we are,” Eddie says with a small smile that makes it seem like he knows something that Steve doesn’t. Before he can ask, Eddie is saying, “I hope I’ll see you again. Goodbye, Steve.” And with that he’s rushing off, pulling his baseball cap a little lower and directing his gaze towards the ground.
He’s strange, but Steve likes him.
The rest of his day, he has a spring in his step. And by the time he gets to his hotel, he collapses on his bed with a sigh of relief. He pulls out his phone and checks for any notifications before he realizes his phone has been on airplane mode. He turns it off and waits for a message from Robin or Dustin to appear on his screen.
Instead, he’s bombarded with notification after notification - including 27 missed calls from Dustin. He calls him immediately.
The phone rings for not even a second before Dustin is answering with a scream of, “Steve Harrington, why have you not answered your phone?!”
“I’ve been sightseeing. Is everything okay?”
“Check the photos I sent you!”
Steve rushes to his messages, finding them filled with people he hasn’t heard from in years. He ignores that and goes to his pinned messages with Dustin. He clicks on the first picture he sees.
It’s a poor quality photo of him and Eddie hugging in the terminal. He swipes to find a photo of him and Eddie holding hands on the plane. Then another one of him lingering in Eddie’s arm looking… very smitten. “Dustin where did you get these?” Steve asks swiping and even coming across a video of them talking on the plane, with Steve laughing as Eddie dramatically tells some sort of tale.
“Better question, how did this even happen Steve? Why didn’t you tell me?!”
Steve is thoroughly confused. “Dustin, I just met Eddie today. But seriously, how did you get these?”
There’s a pause on the other line and a breathed out, “Oh my god.” He can hear Dustin take a deep breath before he asks, “Steve, please tell me that you know who Eddie Munson is.”
“His last name is Munson?”
There’s a muffled scream on the other line before Dustin is launching into a speech about how Eddie is one of the most famous up and coming artists right now. And yeah Corroded Coffins does sound familiar, but it doesn’t click until Dustin explains that’s who Steve and the Byers are going to see in concert.
Oh.
Steve thinks back and everything clicks - especially the number of people who were staring at him and trying to sneak photos while he was out. He scrolls to a screenshot of a Twitter post with the caption, “did anyone else know that eddie munson has a boyfriend???”
Steve’s eyes widen. “Dustin, how many people think we’re dating?”
“The entire internet so basically the whole world,” Dustin says, and Steve doesn’t have time to even process that statement before Dustin is yelling, “Oh my god!”
“What?”
“Eddie Munson just liked a photo I was tagged in! Holy shit, he’s seen my face!”
“Yeah, dude, I told him all about you on the plane,” Steve says. And boy, that probably will not help with the kid’s ego.
Steve opens his Instagram, ignoring Dustin’s little screams on the other line, and takes in the sheer number of notifications. He quickly goes to his requests in his messages and finds one from therealeddiemunson. “Hey, Dustin, what does a blue checkmark mean?”
Dustin groans on the other line asking why it was Steve who got to meet him before finally explaining it. Steve accepts the request and stares at the message hey, you still on for that coffee?
Steve clicks on Eddie’s profile and his heart thuds. He’s pretty sure people aren’t supposed to have a “K” in their follower count. He looks at the recent photos and feels himself turn a bit red. He almost has no clue how the Eddie he met on the plane and Eddie Munson are the same guy.
“Dustin, if I turned down Eddie Munson for coffee would you ever be able to forgive me?”
“Don’t you fucking dare, or I swear to god I will never let my mom bake anything for you again.”
Steve laughs and with that he goes back to the messages and sends Absolutely :)

Part Two of Not-So-Secret Secret Admirer!! Part One.
Eddie comes into the music store only to be immediately shoved out the doors by Robin who follows him out. Eddie nearly trips over his own feet, but Robin grabs onto his shoulders with crazed eyes. “Get. Him. Another. Gift. He thinks his admirer has vanished, and he’s worse than before. Inconsolable,” Robin says. She turns Eddie around by the shoulders then pushes him away yelling, “Go!”
With the head start, Eddie finds himself jogging towards his van as if his life depended on it. It’s only been five days, but Eddie honestly has been desperately awaiting the next gift from E.R.. He already has the start of one at his trailer, so he makes the drive back and finishes it off. He wonders how he’s going to sneak it into Family Video once again.
He spends his drive back contemplating different methods when he realizes Robin can be his look out. Whenever she spots his van, she can distract Steve. Eddie just hopes Steve doesn’t link it all together. Maybe he should add some variation but... he wants to see Steve’s reaction to his gifts. Just to make sure he likes them so he knows what to get next... really.
He pulls into the parking lot and thinks for a moment. He tucks the present behinds his back and carefully sets it on the trunk of Steve’s car as he walks in. He jumps as he finds Steve sitting at the counter immediately as he walks in.
But Steve looks... sad. Like overwhelmingly so. He glances up slowly from whatever tape he’s fiddling with and sends Eddie a half-hearted smile. That simply won’t do.
“You okay?” Eddie asks as he leans on the counter.
“Yeah,” Steve says entirely unconvincingly.
Eddie hops up on the counter and swings his legs around to sit on it. “Talk to me.”
Steve sighs. “I just... don’t think the whole secret admirer thing worked out. It’s no big deal really.” Yeah, that’s a lie.
“And how do you know it isn’t working?”
“She hasn’t left anything in days,” Steve replies solemnly.
Eddie tries not to cringe at the thought that Steve thinks it’s some random girl. “Well maybe you aren’t looking hard enough.”
Steve looks up at Eddie with furrowed brows. He glances around him and looks at his car. “The front of my car looks pretty empty.”
“Who says they left it on the front of your car?” Eddie questions.
Steve gives him a look of confusion, but then seems to have a lightbulb moment as he bumps Eddie off the counter to leap over it and rush out the door. He squats down looking at the tops of his tires before trekking around to the back of his car, finally spotting the red heart shaped box. He immediately breaks out into a wide smile and holds it up proudly.
He comes back through the door, already reading the note on the top of the box. “What does it say?” Eddie asks.
Steve stares at it confused. “Words I would use to describe you.” He opens up the box and finds the assorted chocolates inside. “What?” Steve wonders aloud.
“Maybe they put it in the chocolate or something,” Eddie suggests, thinking about how that had been his first idea before he realized that would be some type of hazard.
“Wait!” Robin yells, coming out of the break room from apparently eavesdropping on their conversation. “What if they’re poisoned!”
“Robin, what?”
“What if they’re poisoned, Steve,” Robin repeats slowly.
Eddie picks up a chocolate and shrugs before taking a small bite out of it. He chews slowly and swallows. “Seems alright to me,” he comments then promptly collapses to the ground behind the counter.
“Eddie!” Steve yells scaling the counter at an alarmingly fast rate. He finds Eddie staring up at him with a huge smile and shoves him. “Dude, I thought you had died again or something.”
“I’m trying to keep that as a one-time thing for as long as possible,” Eddie half jokes before taking Steve’s hand to help him stand up. He finds himself quickly in Steve’s space as he stares at him. “Do I have something in my hair or...” Eddie asks running his fingers through his hair.
“No, I was just... making sure you didn’t hit your head or something when you decided to be dramatic.”
“Well, the dramatics established there’s nothing wrong with the chocolate, so what does it say this time?” Robin asks. Eddie kind of forgot she was there.
Steve glances back at the box and looks down at the empty pocket the chocolate was in. He reaches down and grabs a folded-up piece of paper. Eddie grabs the lid and shows it to Robin to explain what it means before Steve reads it out. “Kind, caring, and giving.”
“They didn’t see when you stole the last gummy worm out of the bag this morning,” Robin comments.
“They were in my car, and I bought them!” Steve argues. Eddie tries to hold back his smile at their antics, knowing that they’ll both yell at him for thinking their “very serious” conversation is funny to him.
Robin sighs. “I’m going to raid Keith’s secret snack stash to see if he has anymore.” She walks back to the break room.
Steve rolls his eyes then grabs a chocolate and pops it in his mouth, chewing as he unfolds the note. He swallows loudly as he reads it. “Now I know they really don’t know me,” Steve says folding the note back up and putting it back.
Eddie snatches it and unfolds it, ducking away from Steve’s hands as they try to snatch the note back. He glances at the note for only a second before it’s taken away. Eddie knows exactly what note it is – insanely intelligent. Steve flushes red and looks ashamedly at him. “It sounds like they know you as well as I do,” Eddie says honestly and tries not to reveal how true that statement is.
Steve stares at him for a few moments, as if he’s afraid Eddie’s going to take it back or make a joke out of it. Then, he breaks out into a small smile. “Thanks, man.”
Eddie heart beats a little faster. “Alright, one more before I hit the road.” He needs to get out of here and clear his head.
Steve takes half a bite out of a chocolate and holds out the other half for Eddie who accepts it, trying not to think about how Steve’s mouth was just on it. Steve unfolds the note and laughs loudly. He turns it around and shows the note in all caps – HOT.
Eddie laughs with Steve, trying to convince himself he’s laughing at his own note and not just laughing because he’s so overjoyed to see the way Steve responds to his gift. He easily makes his way over the counter and out the front door.
“And they are right!” Eddie announces, just in time to see Steve’s jaw drop as the door closes. Eddie laughs and tries to figure out what to get him next.

Late night calls [part 6]
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
Here’s the end of this story! Hope you enjoy it and please let me know what you think of it
The next morning was a bit of a struggle. Eddie still didn’t feel like getting up or doing anything, all the bad thoughts looming over him like a blade waiting to fall down and decapitate him. It was a lot and he felt even worse cause Steve was there, his now boyfriend laying in his bed, caressing his face with the kindest look on his face. He really didn’t deserve this.
“Good morning, sunshine!” Steve spoke quietly, rubbing his thumb over Eddie’s cheek. “How you feeling today?”
“Mhmmm…” was the only thing he could muster, pulling Steve closer to bury his face into his chest. He got the cutest giggle for a reaction and maybe some of those dark clouds disappeared from his mind, but not all of it. Not yet.
“We can cuddle for a little more, but I have to call Nancy.” He said while tracing Eddie’s spine through the thin shirt, earning a curious noise from the boy in his arms. “She was the one who called me yesterday, said that her mom saw you running out of the grocery store and heard Mrs. Cunningham screaming. She was really worried and wanted to come herself, but she had to take care of Holly. Even Robin was concerned, but I told her to just stay put and tell the kids I am with you.” He explained, hands still roaming up and down on Eddie’s back gently. “Everyone cares about you, Eds. This town might be full of assholes, but you have a little mismatched family and all of them loves you so, so much.”
Eddie felt tears running down his cheeks before his brain registered that he was crying. He grasped Steve’s shirt tighter, probably a bit painfully as he just sobbed into the man’s chest, unable to form words of his feelings at the moment.
He was alone for most of his life, then he had Wayne, but even then he couldn’t make many friends. There was Hellfire and Corroded Coffin yes, but that wasn’t the same. They were just freaks with the same interests huddled together against the world. He never really could form deep friendships with any of them. Gareth was the only one he cold consider as his best friend, but he was still young and not even remotely as fucked up as Eddie. But now he had this incredible amount of people in his life who all went through some pretty traumatizing shit, coming out of it tougher, but also more vulnerable. These people understood Eddie like no one else before and still Steve was the person he got the closest with.
“It’s okay, Eds. Cry it all out. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere, I promise.”
Those sweet words just made him cry harder, ugly sobbing into his boyfriend’s shirt, his body shaking uncontrollably. He couldn’t stop it, because he never felt so loved and cared for in his life. It was everything he wished for.
Steve didn’t let go of him for another hour or so while he made a mess of the shirt he was wearing. After he calmed down, rubbing at his puffy eyes and wet cheeks he smiled up at Steve, giving him a soft kiss on the lips.
“Thank you, Sweetheart.” He whispered softly into the space between them.
“You’re welcome. Now can I go and call Nance or you want me to stay a little more?” Steve asked, tucking a strand of hair behind Eddie’s ear with the utmost care.
“I’ll be fine now.” Eddie smiled and kissed Steve’s palm before he pulled his hand back and got up from the bed. “I don’t want anyone to come over, though. I’m not ready for that yet.” He called after him as Steve walked to the telephone in the tiny hall, receiving a nod and a fond smile as a response.
Eddie wanted to listen in on the conversation between his best friend (because yes, Nancy Wheeler was probably the best friend he ever had) and his boyfriend, but his eyes felt heavy and his body was still powerless, so he let himself slide into dreamless sleep, holding the blanket like a stuffed animal between his arms, breathing in the lingering smell of Steve.
He woke up to a gentle nudge at his shoulder, grumbling and still half asleep he just grabbed the hand and pulled the person on the bed with him. Steve, because of course it was him let out a hearty laugh, freeing himself from the grasp of his boyfriend.
“C’mon, Eds! You’ve slept through most of the day, it’s time you eat something.” He said softly, wrestling Eddie into a sitting position.
“I don’t wanna…” Eddie whined, but he let himself be manhandled and forced his eyes to open, the sight of his boyfriend giving him more energy than any food or drink could. “You’re so damn pretty, babe.”
“Sweet talk ain’t getting you in my pants, Munson.” Steve replied with a shit eating grin, reminiscing one of their conversations from spring. Eddie let himself enjoy the fact that the boy he playfully flirted with back then is now the most important person in his life. Things can change fast and love is a mysterious feeling.
“I love you, Stevie.” He smiled at the boy in front of him, placing a soft kiss on his lips before getting up from the bed. Steve was caught off guard with that confession, feeling his face heat up, covering it with his hands.
“Jesus, Eds, warn a guy before you say shit like that.” He mumbled into his palms, trying to control his racing heart. Eddie laughed sweetly, walking to his drawers and pulling out a familiar yellow sweater.
“Can’t I declare my undying love for the man of my dreams?” He asked playfully after he changed his old band tee for Steve’s comfortable sweater, draping himself over the back of his still embarrassed boyfriend. “I love you more than anything, babe.” He whispered into his ear, resting his chin on Steve’s shoulder.
“I love you too, Eds.” Steve responded, leaning back into the embrace and placing his hands on Eddie’s.
“What are we having for dinner?”
“Nance dropped by a couple of hours ago and brought us some casserole her mom made.” Steve replied, turning his head to the side and giving Eddie a soft peck on the cheek. “There’s also some ice cream left from last time when we had a sleepover, so we can have that for dessert.”
“I was hoping I can have you for dessert.” Eddie quipped, peppering Steve’s neck with soft kisses, making the boy shiver in his arms, tilting his head to the side and giving him more access.
“We can arrange that…” Steve mumbled, his his voice quivering slightly. Eddie smirked like the cat that got the cream, licking a long streak up on Steve’s beautiful neck all the way to his ear.
“You’re so good to me, pretty boy.” He whispered in a deep voice, rubbing his hand up and down on Steve’s chest, enjoying the way his muscles felt under his fingertips. He was about to let his hands wander south when his stomach let out a loud grumble, making both of them burst out in laughter. “So… dinner?” Eddie asked, wheezing and wiping off his tears.
“Yeah, let’s get some food in you before we continue this.” Steve said playfully, getting up from the bed and helping Eddie stand up too.
“So I am gonna get in those pants?” Eddie asked with a cheeky grin, lacing his fingers with Steve’s as they walked out to the kitchen. His boyfriend snorted, squeezing his hand.
“Yeah, sure thing, Casanova.”
Here’s the end yall! I am going to upload this on AO3 as soon as I have more time on my hands. Comments or fun tags would be appreciated

Steve who's too scared to let love in because no matter how hard he tries, it always goes wrong. He's never good enough. He brushes off Eddie's flirty comments and ignores Robin when she tries to tell him that Eddie really likes you, Steve. He's trying so hard. Why won't you let him in?
Because he knows how it will go. Eddie will whisper sweet nothings to him, he'll hold him and promise that he'll never let go and then Steve will wake up one morning with a note on the bedside table saying, 'I can't do this anymore.' Steve's done this dance hundreds of times, he's tired, he just wants to be left alone.
But Eddie is relentless. He's constantly in Steve's personal space, constantly brushing his fingers against Steve's and bumping their shoulders together. He can read Steve like an open book and that terrifies him. Steve will sigh a certain way and Eddie will instantly be up on his feet to clear the kids out of his house. "Go annoy your actual parents for a while." Eddie teases.
Steve will squint once while trying to read something and Eddie will already be there with Steve's glasses in hand. "You'll get wrinkles if you keep squinting like that."
When his migraines are bad, Eddie will keep the kids away and take the time to close all the curtains in his house and bring him ice packs every hour. If Steve tries to protest, Eddie will just shake his head and gently ease him back down on the bed. "Just.. let me help." He says softly.
Steve Harrington, who has tried so hard to keep his heart safe, finally realises that Eddie has been holding it gently in his hands for months, cradling it and slowly breathing life back into it with every little thoughtful gesture and warm smile.
He decides that Eddie can be trusted to keep his heart safe, to handle it carefully and mend the cracks.
Plus, how can he say no when Eddie is standing outside in the snow with a ridiculously large bouquet of flowers while the kids hide badly in the bushes as they wait for Steve's reply to the message written in the snow.
'Will you go out with me?' It says in Eddie's messy handwriting and Steve feels his heart flutter for the first time in a long while.

Thinking of doing a Christmas Steddie Series called Alone Together.
Steve and Eddie make a pact to be each other’s holiday date (“just friends”) for every coupley thing the party has planned because really, love is the only thing that can make ice skating (or falling on your ass multiple times) seem like a good time. But at least they can suffer together… or maybe not even suffer at all.
I have plans for ice skating. Christmas cookies. Christmas movie night. Snowball fights. Going out to see the lights. …but please give me more ideas :))
Featuring background ronance, jargyle, elumax, byler, and duzie. (Maybe a little jopper because I love them)

Late Night Calls [part 5]
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
Of course happiness for people in Hawkins never lasts forever, especially to those who have experienced the hell that lies below the town. It’s inevitable with all the trauma and issues they’ve been through to have hard times. But it wasn’t like Eddie wanted to drift apart from Steve. They’ve got so close in the matter of a few months. He’s been there during his graduation ceremony, drowning out the curses and insults parents threw his way with cheers and whistles. He brought Eddie flowers and they celebrated with the older kids together at Steve’s place. In a matter of time Steve and Eddie just somehow became SteveandEddie and no one really questioned it. They spent time with Robin a lot, who clicked with Eddie instantly since both of them were outcast queer teens in a conservative town in bumfuck Indiana.
No, the bad shit started one day in the middle of August. Eddie had to go to the grocery store, cause they were out of milk and cereal, which was Eddie and Steve’s favorite breakfast food. Wayne was out of town on a fishing trip with a friend from work, so he couldn’t send him. It would be just a quick trip, he kept telling himself. Just grab the stuff, pay and be out of the store in no time. At least that’s what he hoped for as he got out of his dingy van, walking in through the glass doors. He made sure to keep his head down, trying not to attract much attention. He was wearing Steve’s light wash jeans and Wayne’s plaid button ups, hoping people won’t recognize him right away.
Eddie could only partially remember how it happened cause it all went down so fast. He was clutching his and Steve’s favorite cereal and a jug of milk in his hands when he rounded a corner and suddenly he was facing Chrissy’s mom. He stopped, rooted to his spot as she slowly recognized him, her face contorting into something painful and angry. She was shouting, but Eddie felt like he was underwater, the words all coming to him from a distant place. “Monster!” “Murderer!” “You killed my little girl!”
He probably would’ve stayed there forever if Mrs. Cunningham didn’t start throwing random things at his head. He jolted back into reality, feeling this gaping emptiness in his chest as he dropped the things he was holding, turning around and running out of the store. People were staring, some tried to calm down the angry mother. Eddie didn’t look back, he jumped into his van, hands shaking uncontrollably, brain just static. He had no idea how he got back to the trailer, but he didn’t cause an accident or drove into a tree, so that must be a good sign.
He ran inside like he was being chased, and maybe he was. His stomach churned and it felt like he could throw up at any second. Memories, the horror and the tragedy of spring break banging on his door, demanding to be let in. He sat down in the corner of his room, surrounded by thrown around clothes and random objects, pulling his knees up to his chest, resting his forehead on them. He wasn’t crying, he felt like he didn’t have any tears left in him, but his body was shaking like a leaf, aching at the chest like the bats were still gnawing at it.
It could’ve been minutes, could’ve been hours when he heard the knocking on the front door. He tried to make himself smaller, begging for whoever that was to just go away, leave him alone. There was a voice coming from outside , he might have recognized it, but his brain just wasn’t working properly. All he could hear was Chrissy’s mom shouting “murderer” at him with so much hatred. He wanted to disappear into the ground. He wished he could be the one Vecna killed instead of Chrissy.
As these awful thoughts crossed his mind, the knocking stopped. He could hear the front door opening with that loud, familiar creak. A gentle voice calling his name. Eddie didn’t answer, he felt like his mouth was shut tight, no words coming out of it. He flinched when someone opened the door of his room, stepping into the mess and darkness he buried himself into.
“Eds?” Of course it was Steve, his kind, gentle voice calling out. They were supposed to hang out tonight. “Eddie, are you…” his question was cut short as his eyes fell on the boy’s shaking form in the corner. He quickly closed the short distance between them, dropping on his knees in front of Eddie, careful not to touch him yet. “Hey, Eddie!” He spoke quietly, with so much affection it made Eddie wanna scream.
He couldn’t speak, just kept shivering and sobbing with no tears. He felt a bit relieved Steve was there, but also wished he didn’t have to see him like this. To see how broken and weak he actually is.
“Hey, Eds! Can I touch you?” Steve asked softly, still keeping his distance from Eddie. He couldn’t respond, just gave a curt nod instead.
As Steve’s hands were gently placed on his knees, then cradling through his messy curls Eddie let out a heart wrenching sob. Steve wrapped his arms around him, pulling Eddie’s head into his chest.
“Eds! Hey, sweetheart! I am here. I’ve got you.” He whispered softly into his hair while his hands rubbed Eddie’s back gently. “It’s gonna be okay, I promise.”
Eddie wanted to say something, tell him to go away, that nothing will be okay ever again. That he’s just a broken failure who doesn’t deserve love. Instead he was just clinging onto his friend like a lifeline, burying his face in Steve’s chest.
“It’s okay, Eds. I’m here now.”
They stayed there on the floor for probably hours, Steve holding Eddie in his arms, at some point even pulling him onto his lap, playing with his hair. He was humming some song he heard Eddie listening to many times in his car in hopes it will help calm him down.
It got dark outside by the time Eddie’s shivering stopped and his sobs died out. He was still in Steve’s arms, feeling completely drained and exhausted after his breakdown, barely had energy to lift his head. Steve looked down at him, his big, beautiful eyes behind his glasses full of kindness all directed towards him. Eddie loved when Steve had his glasses on, it made him look extra handsome and seeing it on him right now brought some good feelings back into the emptiness that formed within his body.
“Hey there, Beautiful!” Steve whispered, placing his palm on Eddie’s face, tracing his cheek with his thumb. “You want some water? Or eat something?”
Eddie just shook his head and let himself lean into the gentle touch. His mind was still filled with self-deprecating thoughts, telling him he didn’t deserve anything, that he should be the one dead, that he shouldn’t accept Steve’s kindness.
“Alright. You wanna get in bed and just stay there?” Steve asked as he kept stroking Eddie’s face, keeping his voice low like he was talking to a spooked animal.
“I can’t move…” Eddie rasped out, his voice sounded hoarse and distant, like it didn’t belong to him.
“It’s okay, Eds. I said that I’ve got you, didn’t I?” He smirked at Eddie as he slowly got up, sliding one arm around his torso and the other under his knees to lift him up. Eddie let out a shriek, warmth bubbling up in his chest at the sight of Steve’s blinding smile and the feeling of his arms around him.
Steve put him on the messy bed gently, placing a soft kiss to his forehead as he pulled back. Eddie felt panic settling in as Steve was getting further from him, his hand shooting out before he could even think of doing so, grabbing his arm fiercely.
“Don’t…”
“I’m not going anywhere, Eddie. Just gonna find some more comfortable clothes for both of us to wear.” He explained with a sweet tone, hands pushing stray curls out of Eddie’s face and lips curled up in a soft smile. It was overwhelming to see someone treat him this kindly after what he experienced at the grocery store. Even the mere memory of it made him flinch, which Steve clearly noticed, but didn’t mention.
Eddie let his head fall down onto his pillow as he watched Steve rummage through his drawers, pulling out two sweatpants that maybe belonged to him and some old band shirts. He placed them on the end of the bed and leaned over Eddie.
“Can you sit up for me, handsome?” He asked oh so sweetly and Eddie’s brain could faintly register the fact that Steve never called him by such pet names before. It felt nice. He nodded at the question and slowly raised his upper body, muscles and bones screaming in protest. “Good, you’re doing great, love.” Steve whispered as he started to unbutton his shirt, pulling it off his arms and throwing it in the corner to the rest of his clothes. Eddie wanted to make an inappropriate joke when Steve started to take off the jeans, but this whole situation was much more intimate than sexual and he didn’t want to ruin the moment.
As his clothes were removed, Steve helped him put on the sweatpants and the faded Metallica shirt, placing a kiss on the top of his head when done. Those weren’t exactly new, but they usually did such things after bad nightmares in the safety of their dark room. Eddie was grateful for the caring and gentleness of Steve, but he still felt like he did not deserve any of this.
“What’s on your mind?” Steve asked after he got changed too and climbed onto the bed next to Eddie, eyes filled with worry.
“You shouldn’t be here.” Eddie mumbled, pulling his knees up, making himself as small as he could. “I am just a terrible fuckup, Steve. I can’t do anything right. I could barely keep Dustin safe in the Upside Down, I let Chrissy die and I just ran away like a coward… I deserve being called a murderer. I should’ve been the one getting cursed.”
“Stop that!” Steve snapped at him, grabbing his shoulders to force Eddie into facing him. “You did nothing wrong, Eddie. What happened to Chrissy would’ve happened whether she was with you or not. You didn’t know how to save her. Hell, you almost died to save this whole fucking town just for them to keep calling you monster and murderer. You are the bravest man I know, Eds.” He finished his sentence with a soft smile, knocking their foreheads together. “You aren’t perfect, but none of us are and I know these things will haunt you for a very long time. I’ve been dealing with it since ‘83, but now we have each other and I’m not gonna let you spiral into something that will destroy you!”
“Steve, I…”
“I love you, Eds.” He whispered, eyes locked with Eddie’s, filled with nothing but honesty and kindness. “I love you so much that it makes my chest hurt sometimes. I can’t imagine a life without you.”
“I… I love you too.” He mumbled, voice shaking and eyes watery from all the unshed tears still left there. Steve’s smile was so bright it could light up the whole world, like he was the Sun himself. The most beautiful thing Eddie have ever seen and he would say those words again and again and again, if he got to see him being so happy.
“Good, because I wasn’t planning on letting you go.” Steve smiled and placed a gentle peck on Eddie’s lips.
“I wouldn’t want that, big boy.” Eddie replied with a chuckle, wrapping his arms around Steve’s neck and pulling him into a real, passionate kiss this time.
It started with touch of the lips, a wandering tongue licking at the seam, then they let it get deeper, sloppy and more deep. Somewhere in the middle Steve pulled back to take off his glasses, placing them on the nightstand and pushing Eddie into the mattress to kiss him more. Hands wandering around, but staying strictly above the waist, not making anything too heated. They just wanted to feel each other in a non-sexual type of way.
Their energy died out quickly, since Eddie wasn’t still back to his full self, content with just being cuddled in those big arms of his lover. Steve wrapped himself around Eddie, making sure to keep him safe and sound. He knew bad days like this will come again, but they can get through it cause they have each other and that’s the only thing that matters.
