K-STYLE JAPAN INTERVIEW MARCH 2023
Girls' Generation's Seohyun talks about the charm of "Jinxed at First: "A unique and uncommon character"
(THIS INTERVIEW WAS TRANSLATED FROM JAPANESE WITH GOOGLE TRANS WITH SOME MINIMAL EDITING FOR CLARITY)
SOURCE
Q: What was your first impression of the character Seulbi?
Seohyun: When I first saw the script, I thought Seulbi was a unique character. She is extremely pure, acts out of the blue, and has amazing abilities, so I think she is a very attractive and unique character.
Q: What did you think when you were offered the role of Seulbi?
Seohyun: It was a character that I wanted to take on, so I was happy that they entrusted me with the role, and at the same time, I felt a sense of responsibility.
Q: What advice did you receive from the director? What were some words that left an impression on you?
Seohyun: Every time I went to the set, the director welcomed me warmly and complimented me a lot. The director often told me, ``Just act however you like'' and ``You're good at acting, so do whatever you want,'' and that's what I remembers most. Thanks to that, I was able to play Seulbi freely.
Q: Are there any similarities or differences between you and Seulbi?
Seohyun: I think Seulbi and I have a lot of similarities. First of all, I have a positive way of looking at things, and I am ambitious and have a spirit of challenge. We are also similar in that we are very active and energetic. The difference is...the experience level in social life is different. Seulbi has had no contact with the outside world for about 19 years, so there are many things she doesn't know, and she has never been in society, so I think her experience level is different from mine. I have a lot of experience as a working adult.
Q: Which line resonated with you the most?
Seohyun: It's not Seulbi's line, but what Seulbi's mother says to her, but it's a line that says, ``The luckiest ones aren’t necessarily the happiest.'' At that time, Seulbi didn't really understand it, but as she grows up, she learns the meaning of those words and grows even more despite the pain. Those words are impressive.
Q: What are your thoughts on costumes and hair and makeup?
Seohyun: I was very particular about the styling. There are fans of the webtoon that it is based on, so I wanted to create a wonderful work that takes advantage of the charm of a webtoon while also adding the charm of a drama.
Q: What did you pay attention to when preparing for your role?
Seohyun: I thought it was necessary to think carefully before playing Seulbi. I thought a lot about ``What kind of values should I live with in order to grow up to be a child like Seulbi?’’ and ``What kind of things did she have to go through?'' I paid attention not only to the appearance but also to the inside. Also, since Seulbi is not a typical character, I wanted her words, actions, gestures, and facial expressions to stand out and look like an innocent teenager. I wanted to somehow express the cute movements typical of characters from web comics, so I incorporated them.
Q: What was the atmosphere like at the filming location?
Seohyun: I think it was the best site. First of all, the director was a cheerful and personable person who enlivened the atmosphere on set. I also felt the love that Na Inwoo (who played the opposite role) and all the cast members had for the set. It's thanks to everyone that I was able to go to the site with a feeling of having fun rather than going to work.
Q: What does Gong Soogwang mean to Seulbi?
Seohyun: For Seulbi, Soohwang is her “strength to survive.” I think he is so meaningful that you could say that he occupies 80% of her life.
Q: How was it co-starring with Na Inwoo?
Seohyun: I have always felt very grateful to be able to work with such a responsible actor. He has a deep love for the work, and always had the script with him on set. And we talked a lot about the script. We consulted many times on set about ``how to make use of the characters and make the two of us work together.'' I felt empowered, and he was not only helpful, but also educational.
Q: Please tell us the highlights of the drama.
Seohyun: `Jinxed at First” is a drama that feels like an amusement park. It's a work that everyone can enjoy, regardless of age or gender, and I think everyone can relate to it.
Q: What is the scene between Seulbi and Soogwang that we should pay attention to?
Seohyun: There are a lot of interesting scenes... There is a scene where Seulbi drinks alcohol for the first time. Seulbi and Soogwang's reactions at that time and the conversation between the two are interesting, so please pay attention.
Q: What is the appeal of this drama, which is different from the original work?
Seohyun: I tried to make the most of the charm of the original work while adding even more charm. I think it adds a sense of dynamism and lively charm. There are many parts that have been adapted, characters that are not in the original work appear, and the setting has changed slightly. I would like you to see that part as well.
Q: What did you learn or what interested you as a result of this work?
Seohyun: It made me think about "fate". I had never thought about it deeply before, but this time it was a work that involved fate. I often wondered, ``Is there a destiny?'' ``Can I change my destiny?''
Q: What message do you want to convey through the drama?
Seohyun: The message of "Let's love everything." I want to tell people to live their lives while loving the fate that has come their way, love their lives, love the people around them, and love themselves too.
Q: What kind of people do you want to watch this drama?
Seohyun: I would like people who are in various situations to watch it, including people who are wondering why they are unhappy, people who are bored or want to laugh, people who want to be healed.... I think it will make life even more enjoyable for those who enjoy life, and bring laughter to those who are feeling down. It's a warm work, so I'd like many people to see it.
Q: Is there a way to bring good luck?
Seohyun: First of all, I believe that good luck will come to me, and then I work really hard. Then, you will be able to the seize good luck when it actually comes.
Q: Who brings good luck to Seohyun?
Seohyun: There are many people like that. It's difficult to narrow it down to just one person. Depending on the time, it might be someone I know who comforts me, a friend, my parents, or even my dog. On set, the director and fellow actors are like that. Depending on how you think, everyone becomes a ``person who brings good luck.''
Q: Does Seohyun have a jinx as well?
Seohyun: I don't really have jinxes. There are no events that come to mind. But if I had to say it... I don't usually play games. I definitely don't play games before I have something important coming up. If I play a game for even 1 minute or 30 seconds, I end up blaming myself for some reason. I don't think it's because I played games that things didn't go well, but when I have something important coming up, I want to use my time to focus on it and prepare. Maybe you want to avoid being distracted by other things.
Q: What was the luckiest thing in your life?
Seohyun: I often think, ``I'm lucky.'' I say “I’m lucky” many times a day. My life itself is lucky. However, it wasn't all happy, but I think I was able to find some good luck thanks to some small misfortunes. There were a lot of good things that happened, and I think that if you think you're lucky, you'll be lucky, and if you think you're unhappy, it'll end there.
Q: What roles or genres would you like to try in the future?
Seohyun: I'd like to try a very ordinary romance, and I'd also like to try a memorable villain.
Q: What do you want to achieve as an actor?
Seohyun: I don't think acting is a job to achieve something. I feel like I'm always learning about life and myself every time I work. You could say that it gives me a sense of accomplishment to have lived the life of someone different from myself in my work, but I think this is a job that gives me more of a sense of responsibility than a sense of accomplishment. But I'm having fun doing it.
Q: What is the difference between a singer and an actor?
Seohyun: I think singers and actors are similar. Both jobs involve expressing one's thoughts and emotions, expressed through songs and lines. If I were to look for something different…A singer’s job is to perform on stage, so they think about how to present themselves in order to express themselves more coolly. However, actors do not speak or express their own emotions. I think the difference between singers and actors is whether or not they project themselves.
Q: What is important to Seohyun?
Seohyun: The most important thing is my diary. I've been writing in it ever since I made my debut at the age of 17. At that time, I was so busy that I couldn't even remember what I was thinking or working on yesterday. So I started writing in a diary to keep track of things, and I think it's become a good habit. When I look at my past diaries, I feel that they are very important because they are full of my life. There were times when I ended up writing two lines because I didn't want to write, and times when I was honest and said, "I don't want to write." But it's what I cherish most because it's what my life has been about up until now.
Q: What is your routine that you have followed up until now?
Seohyun: I still maintain the value that ``the ultimate winner is the good person.'' And my routine...I read books when I'm having a hard time. Books that serve as life guides are ``Nietzsche's Words'' and Dale Carnegie's ``How to Win Friends and Influence People''. I first read it when I was about 18 years old, and it really touched my heart. Since then, I've read it over and over again, and even though it's the same book, I feel different each time. This is a book that allows you to reflect on yourself and help you grow.
Q: What are some ways to change your mood?
Seohyun: There are many. For some reason, people tend to think I'm an introvert, but my friends and acquaintances who know me well say I'm "active." No matter how tired you are on holidays, going outside will make you feel more energetic than staying at home. I often go to the Han River to walk my dog, and instead of reading books at home, I spread out a mat and read books along the Han River. I also like driving and horseback riding. I also like golf.
Q: What has changed since you turned 32 (in Korean years)?
Seohyun: It's a sense of responsibility. I now have a stronger sense of responsibility. Of course, I have more leeway than before, but I also have a different sense of responsibility.
Q: What is your favorite Japanese food or favorite drama?
Seohyun: I love Hitsumabushi. When I went to Nagoya, I ate 3 meals of ``hitsumabushi'' for 3 to 4 days during my stay. Even in Korea, I look for a restaurant that serves Hitsumabushi and go eat it. You can't get that taste with delivery. So I go to eat at delicious restaurants. But I have yet to meet the delicious hitsumabushi that I had in Nagoya. I just love it! I'm starting to want to eat it... My favorite Japanese drama is "Nodame Cantabile." I've watched a lot of Japanese dramas, but that one is still my favorite.
Q: What are your memories of Japan?
Seohyun: I have a lot of memories. I rode a roller coaster and it was really scary. Moreover, I took off my shoes and rode. I think the name was ``Eejanaika''. It was really scary, but it was a lot of fun! I think I rode with Girls' Generation members twice. It’s nostalgic.

A complete prince and princess, they look good together
Na Inwoo is cute and the two are so fcking pretty and handsome ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Good people are the best ㅠㅠㅠ
ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Na Inwoo is really hardworking and cute
(They’re) Pangyo couple ㅋㅋㅋ
Their physical impressions (“drawing style”) match so damn well, visuals out of romance novels wow
These two have great chemistry but their best couple award feels even prettier because they feel like good people
They’re both so cute, pretty, and cool
He didn’t sing it out of nowhere but had no choice but to bring up the courage because Jun Hyunmoo suddenly made him…I think looking at just the title might cause misunderstanding ^^
Na Inwoo and Seohyun both have similar vibes so I’m happy looking at them

THEQOO | SEOHYUN WHO MAKES CLOTHES LOOK LIKE LUXURY WHETHER SHE BUYS OR SELLS THEM BECAUSE OF HER BODY FRAME
Seriously she makes it all look expensive
Seohyun’s body frame (literally: "clothes hanger") is more like a mannequin than a mannequin’s
Wow if I wore it I would just look like a common import product but when Seohyun wears it it’s like a luxury product….her aura in itself is luxurious ㅠㅠㅠㅠ
As expected the clothes aren’t the problem it’s me
Seohyun completes the look…
She seems to understand really well what kind of style suits her though honestly anything would look pretty
The clothes look good and so does her sense
I’m jealous of how she completes the look
If you look at what Seohyun wears she excudes prettiness
Seohyun said she would sometimes hide and her face and post photo reviews of her outfits (on online shops). I think she usually dresses frugally but since she has a good body everything looks like luxury goods
She would look pretty even wearing a plastic bag
On the flip side, if your clothes hanger/body frame is lacking then even luxury goods look cheap…
Seohyun has the standard of a fashion body but she only seemed to wear neat/prim clothes during WGM days. Her style looks like it diversified since then so I get vicarious satisfaction seeing that.
I saw this and let go of my greed for clothes… ㅋㅋㅋ Instead of spending money on expensive clothes the answer is to spend on self-care
Seohyun’s photos look more like a model than the shop models
It’s because her face and body,,,,are both of a princess,,,
Her body is high class so whatever she wears is high class
Seohyun actually wears a lot of Chanel clothes but when she wears frugal clothes people talk about it more because they’re surprised. Everything’s just pretty on her because she’s Seohyun.
Seohyun’s atmosphere itself is pretty
I was so touched when I heard she puts a lot of thought into what she wears for support truck proof shots. Everything fits her so well and is pretty.
It’s amazing that Seohyun makes any clothes look like luxury so I always look for her clothes. She’s so damn pretty and completes the look.
She’s the body frame/clothes hanger gangster. She’s so fucking pretty serioiusly.
Her posture is also straight and elegant so she looks even more attractive ㅠㅠ
She has the perfect face, body, and aura.
First of all, she as a person is luxurious herself. I saw a picture of her next to a mannequin and she was more like a mannequin than the mannequin.
Her body is really prettier than a mannequin’s

INTERVIEW | SEOHYUN ✦ ARENA HOMME+ OCTOBER 2022
SEOHYUN, 'I don't want to make only safe choices"
Q. Not long ago <Jinxed at First> ended filming. The change in seasons was seen in the drama. How  long did you shoot?
 A. We started filming in September of last year and filmed for over 3 months. It was work I was so grateful for. The director was incredibly jolly and the direction was clear so atmosphere on set was truly nice. I got close to the actors too and it was a truly energetic site. Dramas film over a long period. I think the process is also important because I don’t live just for results. I was thankful and happy for this production process.
Q. A fairytale-like setting in the original webtoon, situations far off from every life, and events and set-up like a manhwa. The character also requires exaggerated acting. Did you have any burdens?
I didn’t want to make just safe choices. It’s my life, and as an actor my filmography will accumulate for the entirety of my life. With this project I wanted to show various sides of myself, and expand my acting career as I develop.
Q. Is there a pressure to challenge new characters and show a new look every time?
A. I didn’t want to make only safe choices. It’s my life, and as an actor my filmography will build up for the rest of my life. Through this (most recent) project, I wanted to show another side of me, and expand my acting career as I grow.
Q. The character of Seulbi doesn’t look easy to play. Seulbi must have been a challenge, right?
A. She was a big challenge. In fact, I chose it because it looked like the most difficult project of any I had been offered. When would I ever do something like this? I chose it because it was a project I wanted to remain in my filmography, and after the first meeting with the director, I was certain. Last year I filmed multiple projects one after another so my schedule made it nearly impossible, but the director told me he could not it do it if not for me and that he would wait, so I made up my mind. It’s a destined project. And the character of Seulbi is truly similar to my personality.
Q. Your tension (energy/hyperness) was no joke?
A. That’s my “real” hyperness. (Laughs) I always had that energy whenever I went on set.  It was like that during ‘Love and Leashes’, and also during ‘Holy Night: Demon Hunters’.  It was enjoyable because the character was well-matched with my real energy. I had a lot of concerns. Since it’s an original webtoon and unrealistic, it could feel forced/inauthentic. Since she is not a character that is easy to identify with, there were quite a few points I was worried about how to express. Rather than seeking references, I read the webtoon, read the script, and approached it with the intention of bringing out the most Seulbi side of me and and melding that naturally.
Q. You cursed superbly in ‘Private Lives’
A. (Laughs) Right. It’s even more lit in ‘Love and Leashes’. After ‘Love and Leashes’, even more diverse scripts came in. (Characters) ranging from high school students to their mid-late 30s. Since I’m 32 years old, I was grateful to be offered a variety of ages. In the past I was only offered roles in their 20s. As time goes by, I feel that the breadth of my acting is becoming wider so I think I chose my past works well so far.
Q. I think playing a challenging character can be a turning point as an actor. In other words, to elaborate on what you mentioned about expanding your range, it sounds like a statement of ‘I can also do this kind of acting’.
A. That’s right. I never set a limit when choosing a project. I have never once thought for this or that reason I wouldn’t want to do (a project). I was always open, even when discussing it with the company. The scripts that came in after the drama ‘Private Lives’ become more diverse. I think a new side of me was seen.
Q. We’re also looking forward to a strong role from you in the future. Netflix’s “Song of the Bandits’ comes in strong from the title.
A. I have done a period piece before, but this is my first time doing a period piece set during the Japanese colonial period. The script is so interesting. Rather than taking on the challenge because of the character, I like the message of the project. The character is strong, she’s not quirky (*compared to Jiwoo, Seulbi, etc). After reading a script I choose based on what I want to leave and challenge in my career. ‘Song of the Bandits’ was a work that touched my heart greatly. It has really been a joy to film.
Q. Even if the process might be fun, the hard part is the results. Isn’t it hard to detach from evaluations based on the outcomes that lead to them?
A. I don’t know about that. Of course, it’s the best if the result are good. But I think I would regret if I had to choose a work just eyeing outcomes. Without seeing a greater value, you are just chasing the light when there is a lot to gain from the shadows. I consider the process more important. As the processes accumulate, I think one will get good results eventually. It does not help an actor much to be bent on making choices only for the results.
Q. Your heart must go in a different direction depending on the time period (you’re in) right? (Referring to characters she chooses to play)
A. That’s right. That’s why I’m content with my present projects not being consistent/uniform.
Q. How is your status right now?
A. It may be different tomorrow, but from where I stand today, I want to tell a realistic love story. It’s love stories that resonate the most. It’s a subject everyone navigates through and worries about. I want to try an ordinary everyday love story.
Q. You did a lot of of love stories didn’t you?
A. They weren’t ordinary. I was swept up in tremendous incidents, for example scamming or extreme suicidal situations. I want to try a normal and genuine love story that anyone can relate to.
Q. Isn’t ‘everyday acting’ an area that requires built up experience?
Of course. There’s no acting that’s easy. Even seniors with 40~50 years of experience say they get nervous and that it's hard when they come on set. Acting gets more difficult the more you do it.
Q. You wont live like a moth to a fire!
A. Exactly!
Q. Where does your clear self-confidence and solid self-esteem come from?
A. It wasn’t this way from the beginning. When I was young, a lot of troubles and mistakes flew circles my head. I learned a lot from my mistakes. Things have already happened. I realized that if you have the time, it’s more important to think productively than blaming myself, being tormented, and thinking bad things. I tried little by little as if training my thoughts. What I did the most was read. It’s said that people know it all in the contents of a book, but I didn’t understand. So then are you living life just as it’s written in that book? I know you have to create good habits. But as you know, the present is hard if you can’t do that. If you want to change your life, try following the books, and if it doesn’t work, it can’t be helped. I set big goals and practiced them daily just as outlined in books. When I looked at myself objectively, I created habits toward the aspects I wanted to improve and life I aim for. As I trained my mind each day, from then my goals eventually started to come true. It’s even okay if I make a mistake now. Because it’s not like this is the only thing I have in my life. I already made the mistake, what could I do? I can do well next time. Like this, my thoughts changed. Life has become easier.
Q. Don’t your friends say they respect you? (For self-esteem and confidence)
A. They say it’s fascinating. I have a lot of friends who say that (laugh). But this doesn’t happen overnight. I changed completely by working hard at it for around 10 years. I still get gloomy/depressed when I have a hard time but I recover faster than before.
Q. What books did you read?
I read a lot of self-help books. I want to be accomplished and live my one life happily and enjoyably. Because I want to create a life that is better than the one I have now. What efforts did the people who make such lives make? Nothing just falls from the sky. You’re never going to just suddenly do well by doing nothing. You can’t hope for success after just a month of hard work either. That is greediness. Let’s keep at it. I trusted someday it would happen, so my heart became tougher. I gained something really big in my life (from reading). I think I gained the power to live believing in myself without being rattled or falling apart.
Q. That is a respect-worthy attitude.
A. Life is hard. It’s hard, and you feel discouraged and doubt yourself and negative feelings keep piling up. Still you can’t let that happen. If you have confidence in yourself, you can do anything well.
Q. Seohyun-ssi, what is the most important value in your life?
A. It’s happiness. You can say life itself is about choosing happiness. Even if it’s hard today, I want to be happier today over the hope that I will be happy some day. I don’t mean just playing around and drinking. Finding a real, worthwhile happiness is my great purpose. Work is important but work is just a part of happiness. I don’t work for money or glory. I work because it makes me happy. Work is part of my life, it’s not my whole life. If you live for happiness, I think everything else seems to follow naturally.
Q. How did creating goals, following plans, and trying to develop mentally efforts help acting? Does acting practice follow that same path?
A. I think script analysis is important. To understand the work well and become one with the character comes first. The next question is how to express it. Rather than trying to express myself stylishly and beautifully, I want to get to the essence, why behave this way, why look this way, and after carefully analyzing each thing one by one I apply the voice tone and work on creating the visuals. So I do a lot of note-taking. Analyzing scenes is a given, but there are a lot of empty spaces in the script. A character’s life story isn’t in the script. I fill that void with my imagination. That preparation is important and I think it’s a job that requires a lot of responsibility. As the years of experience accumulate, that so-called vibe comes as a stroke of luck. I want to try to avoid that. I think I need to expand and develop myself. When I look at the world from only my experiences, my point of view narrows. When I talk to juniors I might say something like “when I was young”. What I experienced isn’t everything but I could get stuck in my own experience. When that happens I get angry with myself. Even when I act, I forget what I did in the past and try to continue make it new.
Q. You have no cracks. As an actor, what is the driving force underlying your efforts to create a character and maintain your original intentions? Could you say it’s a (moral) belief?
A. What doesn’t change is it begins with my own self. I think one has to be wary of looking at references and resource materials. Because it’s cool to create that person with my own color. When I am offered a project, I think I have to act in a way no one but me can do. I have to express it so only my own color seeps out. It’s my belief that I should not lose my color.
Q. To express colors differently from just your own, you need to collect enough data right? Observing everyday people and reading social phenomenas and trends shrewdly.
I like to observe people at cafes and Han River Park. Since my personality is polar E in MBTI, it’s hard for me to stay at home. I even read scripts outside. I also need a change of atmosphere. Sometimes I read scripts in in the mountains, sometimes I go for a walk outdoors with my dog, I even lay out a mat by myself and watch people. Sometimes open my laptop and work alone in a cafe. When you’re observing like that there are moments you gain something from it. These days it’s even fun to observe what tone of speech other people use.

INTERVIEW | SEOHYUN ✦ GQ KOREA FEBRUARY 2022
GQ: Are there any aspects you dislike about yourself?
There are. But those also exist because I’m a human, and they are part of me, so I try to love them. I say, “Ah, so I also have this side of me”, while accepting it.
GQ: It seems like you would have tried to change the parts you didn’t like.
That’s right. As my heart/mind became more relaxed and tolerant, I naturally became accepting of the aspects of myself I hated. When I was young my perspective was narrow. I had only the thought I have to move forward. Now I think I could miss out on many other precious surrounding things if I only look ahead at one thing. We have only one life and I worry often about what I am living for. I don’t want to live only just for glory or shiny things.
GQ: Did that change in thought change the way you view characters?
I think so. In the past when I would look at a script there were instances when I would think, ‘I wouldn’t act like this if I was you’. Now I feel like my mindset has expanded a little more. My current project ‘Love and Leashes’ (Moral Sense) also has a very different feeling compared to a typical ‘romcom’. If you look just based on the subject matter, you could think that Jung Jiwoo is a very unconventional/unique character. But viewing it from a wider perspective, I thought there can also be people like this. So I absolutely wanted to try it.
GQ: What is Seulbi from ‘The Jinx’s Lover’ like?
Seulbi is the character closest to me right now. There is a certain fate that child faces and she is a brave person who lives fighting against that fate. I also have a personality that faces or confronts things rather than giving in, so I feel we are similar.
GQ: For ‘Holy Night: Demon Hunters’, you turned off the lights and watched horror films every night?
That’s correct. Usually I can’t watch horror movies because afterwards the scenes appear in my dreams. The last horror movie I watched in my life was ‘R Point’ (laugh). That was in school too. Even so I am an actor so I tried a few times and failed repeatedly. This time I had made a firm decision. From the day I got the script, I began watching horror films alone in the dark. I should stand in the center of fear, I can’t lose myself there. Fascinatingly, when I did it, it happened. When my perspective changed to that of an actor’s, my eyes opened. How did they achieve that angle? How did they do that acting? Who did that stage makeup?
GQ: Still that’s certainly not something anyone else would do.
My personality is like that. If it's not going to be done properly then let's not do it. Neither here nor there is uncomfortable/unsatisfying . Lukewarm, vague, I just hate such things.
INTERVIEW PART 2 | SEOHYUN 서현 for GQ KOREA FEBRUARY 2022 (PART 2)
GQ: Do you have a process to face your real emotions?
I’m doing that in every moment. I think listening to myself in every moment is an important habit. Even within a day I encounter so many people and situations, and carry a lot thoughts. Now I observe a little more closely the things I would have subconsciously let go of in the past. Emotions have several levels, and the more you explore them the more complex and diverse the shape of those emotions are. I try to stay in conversations with the emotions that spring up suddenly in my daily life.
GQ: Are you biting the tail of emotions one after the other? (*Note: like trying to keep up on top of a constant chain of emotions)
Um…it’s closer to a feeling of accepting things as they are. Although I have a positive personality, I tried harder in the past to be positive. If you fall into negative thoughts, you and your situation will suffer. Even when I was irritated I would say “don’t be irritated, let’s just listen to music”. Now if I am irritated, I ask why am I irritated? What is the reason? When I looked into my emotions, even the same irritation had various expressions. I think I’ve come to face myself properly.
GQ: You also find contradictions within that life?
That’s right. There is no day where I’m only happy and no day where I am only upset or irritated. Sometimes I’m very happy and all of the sudden I feel empty, and sometimes even why I cry abruptly or feel angry, the feeling of “it’s okay though” suddenly pops up. I think human beings are complex creatures. Isn’t that why it’s more fun?
GQ: You have to be good at everything, and you can’t lose.
Of course winning is better, but sometimes depending on the situation, losing is winning. If I think about it from a present perspective, it’s better to win. But if I look further ahead, to lose now is to win. There are times when I think like this.
GQ: Do such times come like intuition?
There are times it comes like intuition, but if I think rationally and calmly, the answer comes out. If I try hard to win, I might feel good in the moment, but when I think about it later there are also times when winning is losing. This is the mindset I have been continually building while reading books. If I didn’t read, I would think my own experiences are everything and I would lived only according to experience. I’m sure my point of view would have been narrow.
GQ: Not long ago on ‘Yoo Quiz’ you picked ‘no longer scared/nervous’ as a big change. That sounds like a good change. Did you become bold in the face of nerves these days?
I have to do well, but what if I can’t? I had always become stiff before nerves. Now, no matter what place I go, there is no fear that stiffens me. It’s not because I am doing just so great, it’s a change in mindset. Of course the reason for accumulated inner strength could be the years of accumulated experience. Now whether I do well or I don’t, I just do it. That’s how I feel.
GQ: In any situation, your mind is just like ‘okay’?
‘All right, let’s see/bring it on!’

ARTICLE | SEOHYUN ✦ NETFLIX’S FIRST ORIGINAL KOREAN MOVIE, THE REASON WHY WE LOOK FORWARD TO THE CLANDESTINE ‘LOVE AND LEASHES’
“A clandestine sexual preference, will a movie based on BDSM work?”
Netflix will release its original Korean movie ‘Love and Leashes’ (Korean title: Moral Sense) on February 11th. It has been nearly a year since it was announced as part of the strengthening of Korean content and film production last February. At the moment, viewers around the world look forward to Korean content due to the synergy between its completeness and the framework of Netflix’s platform.
In the domestic film industry, it has become difficult to find romance movies due to a situation where genre films and blockbusters are the main box office hits. In addition, even if a romance film is released, it is difficult to cross the break-even point. Although romance is still strong in dramas, it is said a run time of just under two hours is not enough to convey a romance, in which the story is focused on emotions and relationships, so romance and melodramas have long been pushed out of the film industry’s mainstream.
In this situation, Netflix is drawing attention with the release of ‘Love and Leashes’, a romance genre film with sexual preferences in the shadow as the subject matter. ‘Love and Leashes’ portrays a headspinning romance between Jihoo, a man who is perfect in everything but has unconventional sexual tastes, and Jiwoo, a competent marketing team employee who accidentally learns his secret. It is based on a popular webtoon of the same name (‘Moral Sense’).
Actress Seohyun plays the role of Jiwoo, a marketing team member who can speak her mind and live by it, while actor Lee Jun Young plays Jihoo, a middle manager from the same team who attracts attention from all the female employees. The acting transformation of Seohyun and Lee Jun Young, who both started as idols and gained popularity as actors, is also something to look forward to.
In particular, the key is whether the webtoon ‘Moral Sense’, which explores a man and woman becoming partners dealing with diversity of taste, desires, and responsibilities in a BDSM relationship, can translate into a movie. Although there are some concerned with shining light on the provocative subject matter of secret sexual tastes, there is many with the higher opinion that this will be an opportunity that can correct misconceptions of this topic and create healthy consumption.
Above everything, the megaphone for ‘Love and Leashes’ to be a realistic and sympathetic romance that creates more weight toward anticipation than concern is director Park Hyun Jin, who directed ‘Lovers of 6 Years’ and ‘Likes for Likes’. Director Park Hyun Jin, together with Kim Seon-ah, the head of the Women’s Film Association, and film critic Kim Hyeyoung, serves as the chair for the Korean Film Gender Equality Committee. She participated in the Korean Film Gender Equality Forum hosted by the Korean Film Gender Equality Trust and advocated for policy motions to improve awareness, prevent sexual harassment and sexual violence, and realize gender equality in the Korean film industry.
‘Love and Leashes’ was rated as not allowed for youth to watch (*R-18/19). Although the rating was somewhat expected to be high, expectations are higher that director Park Hyun Jin, who reacts swiftly to sex issues and approaches romance from a warm perspective, will have handled a dark (adult) story in a balanced manner. It is even rumored the movie was adapted aiming toward healthy play and relationships. The webtoon itself is more focused on relationships than the provocative subject matter that comes to mind with BDSM, so it is not a situation causing much worry.
Indeed, will Netflix’s first secret taste movie ‘Love and Leashes’ be able to snipe the taste of audiences? It appears it has been successful in drawing attention for its fresh approach in many ways.

ARTICLE | SEOHYUN ✦ WHO OF COURSE PREVAILS
2021.05.30
From top girl group Girls’ Generation member to actor, Seohyun who has long been recognized for her talent, is now confirming her presence and undertaking challenges to expand her realm beyond the television screen to the movie screen.
Through Netflix movie 'Love and Leashes' (director: Park Hyun Jin), she is starring as the lead character of a movie for the first time since debut, and will continue to film with a confirmed appearance in her second movie ‘Holy Night: Demon Hunters’ (Director: Lim Dae Hee). ‘Love and Leashes’ and ‘Holy Night: Demon Hunters’ are a romance project and an occult-action genre projects, respectively. Seohyun’s clever choice to show her colorful range of charms is commendable.
‘Love and Leashes’, based on a web toon, depicts the unique romance between a man with uncommon preferences and a woman who learns his secret by accident. Seohyun stars as Jung Jiwoo, a woman who leads an intimate romance with her co-worker after accidentally learning his secret taste and developing an unorthodox relationship with him. Jung Jiwoo appears cold and blunt outwardly, but has a warmer heart than anyone else. In particular, there are high expectations about how she will sweetly team up with younger actor Lee Jun Young, who likewise began as an idol.
‘Holy Night: Demon Hunters’ is an occult action movie in which a team of people fight together against evil spirits. Seohyun plays a progressive female character who is one of the main pillars of the team that confronts evil spirits. Of course, as with ‘Love and Leashes’, it is a character she has not shown in previous works, and she is expected to present a fresh face. ‘Holy Night: Demon Hunters’ is also attracting a lot of attention as a project in which Ma Dong Seok (who is currently a representative leading actor of Chungmuro and expanding his career scope as a global star) will participate in the planning stages, and make his name as an official creative. With Seohyun and Ma Dong Seok’s significant teamwork, she will take official steps forward into Chungmuro after an OTT project.
Above all, ‘Holy Night: Demon Hunters’, which was previously known under the working title ‘Inside’, is a film that has been buzzed about within Chungmuro for its interesting script from an early stage. It was a matter of great interest who would play the standout female character. Seohyun, who has been properly recognized for her stable acting strength accumulated step by step through ‘Bad Thief Good Thief’, ‘Time’, ‘Hello Dracula’, and ‘Private Lives’, has claimed that spot. From the genre to the character, it will be a challenge for Seohyun that raises even more curiosity.
Recently Seohyun’s name and inside story had to be mentioned unwillingly when the personal issue of Kim Jung Hyun surfaced, her partner in the ‘Time’, which she participated in 3 years ago and he dropped out of part way. The weight of what Seohyun endured cannot dared to be imagined, alongside the external damage caused by the sudden departure of the male lead in a romance drama. However then, just like now, Seohyun silently did her best to fulfill her part without opening her mouth. Deservedly, her incredible sense of responsibility stirred positive feedback and support. It is a matter of the past that she would not want to be associated with anymore, but Seohyun who is currently thriving draws the vicarious satisfaction of thrilling justice.
A Chungmuro representative shared, “I know that until this far, Seohyun was handed a number of scripts. To the point where you wonder why did she finally decide to appear in a movie now? I think the best timing arrived for the combination of great project and optimal timing to enter on the big screen”.
The representative continued, “Even on TV, she has grown deeper and more mature as an actor who digested characters in a range of genres rather than presenting one specific image, so there is expectation for what kind of growth Seohyun will display on the big screen. With her well received acting talent that is undeniable, I believe she will further gain audience trust.”

YOUTUBE | 911K VIEWS | SEOHYUN ✦ REAL LIFE SIGHTINGS COMMENTS COLLECTION
*Note: Below are comments under the video, not in video
"I think clean and makeup that emphasize her features beautifully works much better on her than the thick and showy idol makeup during Girls Generation. The older Seohyun becomes the more attractive/charming her face I think. In the past Kim Gura also said Seohyun will be more beautiful the older she gets, it’s the only thing he said that I’ve agreed with."
"She’s a beauty that leaves you speechless"
"Her skin is really fair, face is much sharper than appears on screen, and even if you look up close her skin is really good. She has good proportions and figure, so I don’t think the harmony between that aura and her face can be ignored. How much even ordinary passerby's have admired whenever there’s a fan meeting or event…made a SONE proud to hear…"
"Working in Cheongdamdong I’ve seen most every idols and actors and she was definitely the #1 beauty, I was seriously so surprised wow….I’d never seen anyone that pretty ㅜㅜㅜ Shyly she was like “Truly~? Thank you~~”, the essence of kindness itself….First off her eyes are reaaaally pretty, how clear and big they were;; absolutely pure…Her skin was bare then, I truly haven’t forgotten still"
"I think I understand why everyone who sees Seohyun in real life wants to break the camera, at first I thought how pretty can she be but I can only remember Seohyun that day I saw her"
"When I worked as a makeup staff I saw all members because I was in charge of Girls’ Generation. Of course they were all pretty because they’re celebrities but Seohyunie was the prettiest and if you still ask who’s the prettiest, yes it’s Seohyun ;; She’s really much more beautiful in real life…I thought it’s a shame it doesn’t translate like this on screen . I still remember she talked to me and feel touched"
"There are a lot of pretty celebrities on screen but if you actually look in real life celebrities who are just the right tall height and pretty catch the eye right away. Seohyun is among the tallest of female idols and of course her face is pretty too so if you see her in real life she shines more…hehe. Pretty and upright idol Seohyun ^^"
"The #1 celebrity that I really want to see in real life"
"My cousin who works at a broadcasting station said there’s nothing special about being prettier than the average person but was speechless after seeing Seohyun ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ"
"Seohyun is my middle school alumnus so I saw her in graduation album, I’ve never seen such a pretty person with her hair up without bangs…truly…Sunbae you’re cool"
"I saw her in real life during Kissing You and she was pretty as a sculpture,,,"
"I saw her up close at a VIP premiere and she was really really really pretty, prettier than the average actor…I remember being surprised how pretty she is in real life and how good her body is, everyone who sees says the same. I don’t think the camera can capture even half of her in real life"
"Daegu Shinsegae Valentino pop up….I only remember Seohyun of the celebrities there. One of the few who looks even better IRLㅋ The camera could never capture it.."
"If you see Seohyun you understand why there was a mythical being called “fairy” in the past…she’s not a human being…"
"Seohyun has a sense of class like Kim Yuna"
"The class of natural beauty…"

YOUTUBE | SEOHYUN ✦ "DON'T SAY NO" COMMENTS COLLECTION
"Insane….a Don’t Say No comments collection video…I’ve loved this song since it originally came out ㅠㅠㅠㅠ “You loved me, it’s my favor”….this lyric is even more amazing because Seohyun sang it"
"Seriously agreed. 'You loved me, it’s my favor'…really…I think this lyric is crazy….'I’ll always believe that I was everything for you' even this part….arghhghhh!!…I love because she’s a bad girl…SNSD’s eternal maknae member Joohyun who seemed like she would come out calmly with a guitar, came out with a perfect provocative song like this, it’s crazy….Seo Juhyun!!!!!!! I love you so much that I just blabbered so much…"
"The lyrics are for a female version of Park Jae Eon (Song Kang bad boy character in Nevertheless) If Seohyun is like that, you can’t help but be shaken ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Even though I’m a woman I understand"
"Every time I listen to Seohyun I feel like Seohyun’s voice is kind of the signature of Girls’ Generation? Just exactly the color should I say? It’s Seohyun’s solo song but it’s like a Girls’ Generation song"
"If another woman said it, I think she would be splashed water and slapped like in a drama, but Seohyun saying it I think she would be followed obediently…"
"Actually I forgot because I see her in acting in dramas lately…this Noona, she was originally a singer. On top of that, an idol singer from a really damn amazing background."
"This song should have been known more….honestly Seohyun’s appearance, vocal, choreo, it was legendary from beginning to end"
"A woman who regrets cheating from a High Teen drama/movie material…anyone who watches High Teen knows…..that vibe…."
"Totally Gossip Girl Blair"
"Claiming SNSD vocal line TaeTiSeo, claiming visual line Bermuda, from solo to acting, that girl’s name is Seo Juhyun…"
"It’s true Sooman has a good eye too but Seohyun who pushed Don’t Say No to come out is the best"
"Crazy, with Seohyun’s styling and voice, I couldn’t read the comments because I was looking at Unnie’s features fuck ㅠㅠㅠ"
"Good Girl Seo Juhyun x bad girl lyrics is driving me crazy…"
"In three minutes just everything was included that can show show Seohyun’s strengths. Seohyun’s vocal and tone, the lyrics that include concept, hair and makeup, visual that’s just packed. This song is truly….incredible."
"It’s sexy, cute and lovable, tomboyish, mature and classy, just exactly shot at my taste"
"I think Seohyun's talent and looks, in all respects is somewhat underrated by the public. Even in acting, it's not just as what female idols widely do, her dimension is different."
"If someone else sang it, it would have been poop, but Seohyun singing it brought out the mood more….a velvet-like luxury only Seohyun was born to express 😭"
"It doesn’t sound high because Seohyun sang it, but if you sing it at a Karaoke it’s really high"
"After watching Private Lives it seems like this is a documentary (Cha Joo Eun scam)…."
"Seo Juhyun is a pretty girl who sings well, dances well, acts well, has a bomb physique, and a perfect personality. But above everything, the real killing point is her name is Seo Juhyun. She’s not Kim Juhyun, Lee Juhyun, Hwang Juhyun, Kwon Juhyun, Lim Juhyun, she’s Seo Juhyun. Her name is totally insane (facepalm) I’ve been Seo Juhyun’s fan for years but it’s a real mystery. How is her name Seo Juhyun ???????"
"Her name is Seo Juhyun, I’m done talking ㅜㅜ"
"Even her name is Seo Juhyun ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ Not Seo Jahyun, not Seo Johyun, but Seo Juhyun ㅠㅠ Even to her name she’s perfect seriously (*All the comments about her name are funny 😂)"
"The concept is totally Scarlet from Gone With The Wind material….like a rich man’s daughter with her nose in the air, she’s not obviously begging the other person to come back but hinting just a little so they crawl back on their own."
"Unnie I just have nothing to say…what can I say….Unnie you are everything….I love you Unnie"
"Seohyun Unnie’s choice is always right….."
"Conclusion: Seohyun's existence in SNSD is indispensable"
"She’s so pretty, she looks like an aristocrat"
"Seohyun was an idol??"

INTERVIEW | SEOHYUN ✦ NOBLESSE MEN VOL.35 MARCH 2021
UNEXPECTEDLY
The Seohyun you knew until now, you can erase it all.
It’s been some time since you had a photoshoot. How do you feel?
I enjoyed it. I missed staff and the set a lot. As expected, I think I am a workholic. Working brings me energy. When I rest, I get sick. (Laugh)
There was worry in case you might refuse to do the lying down pose.
Later I will lie down on my own… (Laugh). I love that shot the most.
You have enormous stamina. Earlier when the shoot ended you shouted out to the staff not to be tired. (Laugh). How are you doing after JTBC drama ‘Private Lives’ which aired late last year?
I am enjoying the private life of human being Seo Juhyun. (Laugh). It’s a period of time to find the balance between working Seohyun and human Seo Juhyun. I cannot go outside of the house easily these days, so I am looking for fun things I can enjoy at home. One is them is cooking. As I cook, I become curious about pretty dishes too, so I shop online often. I am also reading books often.
What kind of books do you usually read?
Poetry, novels, so on. Regardless of genre, I read a variety. It is time to wake up books that were sleeping on the shelf. To be honest, in the past I would mainly read self-help.
You were a person famous for reading self-development books. (Laugh)
Yes. (Laugh). At that time, I did so because I thought I had to protect myself. Lately I think I need to fill up the emotional chambers while reading a variety of genres. Some days I only watch TV with no thoughts. I needed the time to be empty before filled again entering the next project. Of course there are days that are tight with exercise or other schedules. Recently I started playing piano and guitar again, and I often go out to walk with my pet dog Ppoppo.
It sounds like you keep busy enough?
Haha! I am busy. Even if I am alone I am always doing something. My mom asks, “What are you always so busy with?”, but in fact Mom is just the same. A personality that cannot sit still. (Laugh).
It is heard often when people meet Seohyun, she’s “unexpected”. What about you is unexpected?
They think I would be incredibly quiet or introverted, but I am chatty and fun.
They thought you would be “no jam” (no fun)?
I guess so. (Laugh)
For me, these words were most surprising. “There is nothing I fear now.” In the period of interviews before and after you turned 30, you said it often. They are not words that can be spit out lightly without courage. What was it you were afraid of before?
Fear is diverse. Before I step on stage, the way I appear to the public, can I do something well….or in a relationship, what if I hurt this person? What if I am hurt? And so on, there were several veins. Even now, I cannot say it has completely disappeared, but I think I climbed one step up from from that fear. Even if fear presents itself, I have the courage now to overcome it.
Was there a catalyst?
There was no special moment. As I was hurt and experienced difficult times, I think I gradually and naturally matured.
Two years ago you transferred agency to Namoo Actors and said it was because you wanted to live an independent life. Did your life change a lot after that move?
It changed a lot. Before I couldn’t even think about how much I wanted to do something or what I liked more between two things, I was already on my schedule. Now I can spare enough time to think. As a result, Seohyun as an artist and human being Seo Juhyun are gradually separating. Before that, I considered the two as the same person. There are certainly benefits to living like that, but life was very exhausting. I wondered if I had lived too wound up and scolding myself. Now I allow myself to fail, and if I fail I would rather it be quickly. I let go of a lot and gained more peace of mind.
That is a positive change. Even now your face looks very comfortable.
That’s right. I always think I am happiest in the present, and this year. It was like that last year and still like that now.
The more choices you have to make for yourself, the more responsibility there is. Do you not feel pressured?
Of course, I think the burden of choice is naturally something I need to accept. Whatever it is I do, whether it is choosing myself, or following a path others have selected, I want to live a life of my own choice. If I do what I feel, I have less regret and a greater sense of responsibility.
Your MBTI type was ENTJ. “The Bold Commander”, it is a leadership type. Do you yourself think you have leadership?
I think so. In Girls’ Generation, I am always the youngest and did not insist my opinions in group life. I thought it was correct to follow the opinions of Unnies. But if you look at life there are times when that is not the case. When I had thoughts of “I think my opinion is more reasonable right now?”, I tried very hard to convince Unnies. I think that kind of state of is my personality. I didn’t know it then, but over time I discovered many things in myself anew.
The title track of your first solo album was “Don’t Say No!”. When everyone says “No” do you have the courage to say “Yes”?
Yes. I thought I didn’t before, but I just did not know myself well enough. It’s not that my personality changed, I was originally this kind of person. If I think I don’t agree, I also reject incredibly fast. So these days, I think to know myself is the most important thing.
If there any more aspects you discovered about yourself recently?
There is no regrets. If I choose what to do myself, I have no regrets. I think this is also a state that changed through effort. Because I went through that much trial and error. I think I did not give up easily even when things were difficult because I was conditioned. Things will be hard again someday right? Still it is fine. Because I have the trust to overcome it.
It looks like Seohyun has incredible trust in Seohyun.
That’s right. And I have the tendency to try to love myself a lot. (Stretches arms wide and pretends to hug herself) I love me the most! This is not in a narcissistic sense. I practiced a lot, trying to love myself as I am. Before I used to blame myself, “Why didn’t you do it like that?” when I had to be good at this and that. But as I lived (I realized), of course I can make mistakes. I wonder why I blamed myself so much. (Laugh). Focusing on what can be done well instead of what can’t is a more progressive mindset and has more positive outcome on life. Even if you look within hard work you will certainly find positive factors. Time flows regardless, and you can draw something from it instead of being eroded by negative thoughts. As I practiced believing I could develop patience, life itself became happier.
So what in that way did you discover “Seohyun is good at”?
What I can do best is what makes me happy. For now that is acting. I started with singing, so that is always going to be with me, but acting (emphasis) is what I love right now. The more I do it the more renewing it is. The feeling of it being simply fun and joy, it’s more than that. Every time I do a project I feel, “I am truly a blessed person, I truly have to do well, I have to live giving my best”. With any character I take on, that person’s life is handed to me. As the job of an actor, I can play characters I couldn’t even imagine. I can open my heart/mind, meet various characters and understand people without prejudice. That is what I am most grateful for as an actor.
I heard that when you take a character you change your speech and even behavior.
I study a lot, as much as one life coming to me, and try to become that character. When shooting a character like that for months, traces linger even after it is over. Those traces make me look back on my life. The positive effect it has on me is an insane lot.
What traces did Cha Joo Eun of ‘Private Lives’, who you played most recently, leave on Seohyun?
(Exclaiming without hesitation) Living without hesitation? (Laugh). Making simple choices and living without regret. When I look back on my old personality, I was a person crammed with thoughts. Whenever I did something I wrote down 100 good points and 10 bad and compared them side by side to decide ‘Is this really a good idea?’. I used to be consumed deep. When I met the character of Cha Joo Eun, I thought “Let’s focus more on emotions than being rational”. Without debating this and that, if I like it, I like it! If I don’t, I don’t! Like that. In the past I couldn’t understand how a person could be so simple, but with taking on the role of Cha Joo Eun it became extremely clear. I love the fact that I can change through acting.
On JTBC’s “Knowing Bros” you said you actually became shameless while playing Cha Joo Eun.
That’s right. (Laugh) I’m not sure if that personality developed during the project or if something naturally within me came to the surface.
Before “Private Lives” I was also impressed watching your appearance in the short drama “Hello Dracula” which depicts stories of people living with problems they want most not to face in their lives. Seohyun played a good daughter who hides her same-sex relationship from her mother. I heard “Hello Dracula” PD Kim Dahye say Seohyun has an upright(with integrity) yet sorrowful essence to her.
I don’t really know if I am sorrowful, but I do think I am upright. I have a strong mentality. Since the beginning of my debut I thought I had to train my mind like exercise. I was rather compulsive and I built my own fences. (Laugh) I became a lot stronger in the process so I thank myself a lot for enduring.
I think young Seohyun must have suffered a lot.
Awhile ago, I saw a diary that I used 10 years ago. Inside it, there was not one space. I wondered how I lived breathing at that time. Despite a tight schedule, it was full in between with English lessons, reading, online lectures, reports, meditation exercises, so on. How frustrating I must have been for people looking at me. (Laugh) After realizing I was a person who could protect herself even a little more laid-back, I gained peace of mind.
What if you could now send a signal to the Seohyun writing in her diary 10 years ago?
I’m sorry, but live it as you are. (Long laughs) Without me then, there is no me now. The experience I stacked up made me who I am in the present. ‘Even though it’s hard, live giving your all. If you trust yourself, some day you will be able to be comfortable. Oh, fun! Hahaha.
Would you be the same if you had a daughter? (Laugh)
I don’t know. I think I would tell my daughter to live a little more carefree. I tend to be on the very harsh side to myself. (Laugh)
You have established yourself as an actor, but you are also still a member of Girls’ Generation. Is there any gap between the Seohyun that fans want and the direction Seohyun wants to move in?
Our members have grown up together with fans through a long time of activity. 10 years passed together and I think that shaped something going beyond fans and artists. A fan wearing a uniform saying “Unnie I have finals tomorrow” became an adult before we knew it····the topics shared with fans and each of our environments has all changed. Now instead of “please absolutely do some sort of activity” there are many people that support Seohyun the human being.
There is a tight trust.
That’s right. It is a trust relationship that is long-established, so there is strong trust. They even say “We hope you don’t decide thinking of fans but do anything you want to do”. Although my agency changed, my identity as Girls’ Generation Seohyun is still valid. However, we still concern about what shape Girls Generation will move forward in the future. In the past, group life was much more important, and we devoted ourselves to music to the extent of releasing 3-4 albums a year, but now it has become clear what each person wants to do, and each individual’s life is important. It’s the time to think about how to strike a balance of what we call “separate and together”. Even recently I gathered together with Unnies and discussed that, and if you wait a little longer I think something present-like could happen for fans.
I think 2020 was an outstanding year for Seohyun’s bold acting transformation with “Hello Dracula” and “Private Lives”. After that there would be a change of scripts incoming I think.
There are a few scripts I am looking at these days, and projects I was surprised to read. Despite the fact my acting career is short and I don’t have many works, I had an image of a character I wanted in the meantime. Primarily a kind and innocent role. However in the scripts I have been offered these days, there are things I want to do like, “you mean you imagined this role for me?”. I am really grateful.
If you could give a hint?
There are characters with incredibly unique personalities, there are also works that inspire curiosity with very fierce characters. I am having fun reading them all through.
What do you think is most important when looking at a script?
First of all, it should be fun. I should be the one interested in the script, not a third party. Because regardless, I am the one who needs to act and live this character. Also what story I want to tell in the work, and the right time the direction I want to move in suits me. Also when the charm of character pulls me big.
I have huge anticipation for your next work. Unfortunately we will see Spring before your next work, right? What is Seohyun’s mindset for greeting Spring 2021?
Between the four seasons, I love Spring the most. With every Spring that comes around, I am so happy and my heart is fluttering. It’s the season of revival. Not long ago the weather warmed up for the first time. I took my dog Ppoppo for a walk and flower buds started to bloom little by little. Witnessing myself happy in this state, I realized all over again that I am so inspired by nature. On a rainy or snowy day I get sentimental, and on a sunny day my mood is also in full bloom. I feel like I want to go back and forth like this. (Laugh)
Your smiling face right now resembles Spring. You match well with Spring, Seohyun-ssi.
Thank you. (Laugh)
I thought up today’s title during the interview. “Seohyun, Unexpectedly”.
Oh!
What kind of person is Seohyun, unexpectedly?
Um, surprisingly simple? I’m not complicated, and I am crystal clear!
