WX holds the ticking Empathy Module in their hand. It's a patchworked mess, a fragile little thing. Tiny gears tick on and on within its heart-shaped shell.
"YOU HELPED ME-"
Their fist tightens around it.
"YOU FOUND ME MATERIALS. MY SPECIMENS."
The metal begins to dent under their iron grip.
"You're taking it too far. Your mice are already suffering. Don't subject yourself to it, too."
"It's different," they tried to tell him. "Their flesh is what makes them erratic. I'm going full metal. There will be no meaty imperfection."
Things got ugly after the transfer. That senile old fool attempted to school them. He treated them like some child. He then had his own tantrum, trying to scrap whatever he could... but the transfer was already complete, what more could he do?
Send them here, apparently. To this death world, full of hostile creatures and giant beasts, always out for scrap.
"AND THIS WAS YOUR IDEA OF MORAL?" They shout to the world. "A FIGHT FOR MY LIFE AT EVERY TICKING MOMENT?"
They were still unsure of their own body going in. They had realized, the first time opening their hood, their old accomplice left them a little gift.
An empathy module. Wired up and nestled in there. Beating carefully like a metronome.
"YOUR ATTEMPTS AT MOCKERY DO NOT DISSUADE ME."
The metal in their hand crumbles.
"I DO NOT NEED YOU, OLD MAN."
Soon, it's unrecognizeable. Their fist relaxes, letting the scrap drop to the floor.
"I WILL CONTINUNE ON MY RESEARCH WITHOUT YOU."
