And here we are, wrapping up another project in our little group of individuals with impeccable taste... We bring you the last installment from Kono Tabi wa, which is the story that gives this compilation its name.

A round of applause for shielshi, Minn and phuji please, who finished these nice little stories after years of abandonment. And another round of applause for doing this story where people speak in dialect.

Heliotrope no Koi by Mizuno Hideko (1969)

What can I say? It is known that I am weak for Russian literature and character who run towards their ruin at full speed, so I had to do this Mizuno one shot too... Here is another story by Turgenev, like the previous First Love, to give you some feelings on this cold weekend. Heliotrope Love, was adapted from his Smoke, and I strongly recommend that you read it. Here are some parts that I loved, but that were sadly weren't included in the limited page count of the manga, so I'll leave them here:

‘But I can’t live without you, Irina,’ Litvinov interrupted, in a whisper now; ‘I am yours for ever and always, since yesterday.... I can only breathe at your feet....’

...As though I could complain when you love me, Irina! I wanted only to tell you that, of all this dead past, all those hopes and efforts, turned to smoke and ashes, there is only one thing left living, invincible, my love for you. Except that love, nothing is left for me; to say it is the sole thing precious to me, would be too little; I live wholly in that love; that love is my whole being; in it are my future, my career, my vocation, my country! You know me, Irina; you know that fine talk of any sort is foreign to my nature, hateful to me, and however strong the words in which I try to express my feelings, you will have no doubts of their sincerity, you will not suppose them exaggerated. This manga was originally published in Monthly Seventeen's issues 30-36 in 1969. I must say all Seventeen manga might be just to my taste.

Hi, ebonytear! It's so motivating to hear that you enjoy what we do. Rest assured that there will be more... It might be "seldom", but there's just too many titles we'd like to get to the fans and ngl, we certainly have better taste than the majority of actual publishers :P

We are still working on Tabi, because Irie Aki loves her SFX... We don't like leaving works unfinished ;)

Es no Kaihou - Finale!

And thus it ends... We bring you the final chapter of our weird-ass psychological ride, Es no Kaihou. But that's not all! We also have a short gag comic that was published at the end of the tankoubon volume of Es no Kaihou.

I, the translator, would like to thank platypus for letting me know this manga exists in the first place, and even buying and scanning the bonus manga, shielshi for agreeing to edit this thing I pulled out of nowhere, and phuji, who saved my poor scripts who were left to die because of lack of proofreading. You are all my champions.

Chapter 6: DDL & MangaDex M no Kaihou: DDL & MangaDex

We'll be working to clear our one shot backlog for a while, and I have found a couple more one shots I'd like to take on; so we say goodbye to our only longer series with this release. Thank you for sticking with us, and I hope you enjoyed reading a work by a lesser known shoujo artist from the 1970s. <3 I sure enjoyed translating this a lot.

Hi anon! When we noticed the high concentration of est em fans in our scan group, we had to complete this one shot collection. We'll also release chapter 6, but it's an annoying one to translate because the characters speak in dialect... So we are saving it for last, and it will eventually come. As for scanlations, I think we have a "things we'd like to see in English" list that can last us 3 lifetimes... So, the likelihood of us taking suggestions and scanlating them is quite low, I'd say. I mean, I think I already have dozens of volumes (maybe hundreds, I'm too scared to check!) I want to translate, and the number keeps increasing. But feel free to drop some names, maybe they overlap. Or, those suggestions can make my "things I want to translate" list longer! :P

Easygoing by Kurata Emi (1976)

This has been in the works for a while... We are proud to bring you a true gem from 1976, Kurata Emi's striking one shot, Easygoing.

This story, especially the last couple of pages, hit me on a personal level. What really impressed me even more is that this story was published in Hana to Yume of all things. Isn't it sad to see what the magazine has become after publishing good stories like this one, reduced to a shoujo magazine filled with tedious romance stories that doesn't even a single brain cell? Honestly, I wouldn't have expected to see such historical and social criticism in a 1970s shoujo manga magazine.

Also, apologies for the text left in Japanese on p. 29, because I couldn't make sense of them for the life of me. I even asked people. So, unless someone sends me scans/pics of the print book, we'll never know. Digitalization does old manga dirty like that.
