Fanfiction Authors: HEADS UP
(Non-authors, please RB to signal boost to your author friends!)
An astute reader informed me this morning that one of my fics (Children of the Future Age) had been pirated and was being sold as a novel on Amazon:
(And they weren't even creative with their cover design. If you're going to pirate something that I spent a full year of my life writing, at least give me a pretty screenshot to brag about later. Seriously.)
I promptly filed a DMCA complaint to have it removed, but I checked out the company that put it up -- Plush Books -- and it looks like A LOT of their books are pirated fic. They are by no means the only ones doing this, either -- the fact that """publishers""" can download stories from AO3 in ebook format and then reupload them to Amazon in just a few clicks makes fic piracy a common problem. There are a whole host of reasons why letting this continue is bad -- including actual legal risk to fanfiction archives -- but basically:
IF YOU ARE A FANFIC AUTHOR WITH LONG AND/OR POPULAR WORKS, PLEASE CHECK AMAZON TO SEE IF YOUR STORIES HAVE BEEN PIRATED.
You can search for your fics by title, or by text from the description (which is often just copied wholesale from AO3 as well). If you find that someone has stolen your work and is selling it as their own, you can lodge a DMCA complaint (Amazon.com/USA site; other countries have different systems). If you haven't done this before, it's easy! Here's a tutorial:
HOW TO FILE A COPYRIGHT COMPLAINT FOR STOLEN WORK ON AMAZON.COM:
First, go to this form. You'll need to be signed into your Amazon account.
Select the radio buttons/dropdown options (shown below) to indicate that you are the legal Rights Owner, you have a copyright concern, and it is about a pirated product.
Enter the name of your story in the Name of Brand field.
In the Link to the Copyrighted Work box, enter a link to the story on AO3 or whatever site your work is posted on.
In the Additional Information box, explain that you are the author of the work and it is being sold without your permission. That's all you really need. If you want, you can include additional information that might be helpful in establishing the validity of your claim, but you don't have to go into great detail. You can simply write something like this:
I am the author of this work, which is being sold by [publisher] without my permission. I originally published this story in [date/year] on [name of site], and have provided a link to the original above. On request, I can provide documentation proving that I am the owner of the account that originally posted this story.
In the ASIN/ISBN-10 field, copy and paste the ID number from the pirated copy's URL. You'll find this ten-digit number in the Amazon URL after the word "product," as in the screenshot below. (If the URL extends beyond this number, you can ignore everything from the question mark on.) Once this number has been added, Amazon will pull the product information automatically and add it to the complaint form, so you can check the listing title and make sure it's correct.
Finally, add your contact information to the relevant fields, check the "I have read and accept the statements" box, and then click Submit. You should receive an email confirmation that Amazon has received the form.
Please share this information with your writer friends, keep an eye out for/report pirated works, and help us keep fanfiction free and legally protected!
NOTE: All of the above also applies to Amazon products featuring stolen artwork, etc., so fan artists should check too!

Dark Urge content + pro and con
I am going to add minimum spoilers! So I won't say who or what Dark Urge is, or what the involvement in the plot actually is, I just want to reassure other players who, maybe like me, might be hesitant because they like to play good.
Act 1 has little extra content a part from some narration at the beginning and the chance to "give in the urges" and kill some people (ex. Gale, when you meet him). There are two unchangable violent events that will happen because of you being Dark Urge (one you can avoid by avoiding an area, the other you cannot).
Act 2 has many more changes. You will actually meet people from your past (a few, I think about 5 or 6?), they only say a little, enough to give some nice clues. There are also a couple of unchangable violente events that you might meet (if you talk with specific characters). Plus, there is an extra quest that you can decide to take or not, and an extra romance scene.
In general, in my playthrough, a part from some narrations about urges and violence, I only had my choice taken away from me two times.
During the game you also get your character making small comments that normal Tav would not make.
Act 3 is the main one for Dark Urge. You get some specific interactions with your companions, and some characters recognize you. In general this is pretty involved and you even get a resolution.
Dark Urge is not a fixed path, I played basically chaotic good with a bit of lawful neutral and was pretty good through all the game. That was definitely recognized by my game. It was VERY satisfying. You can, of course, go towards the Dark Urge path or redeem yourself, basically.
And what is better is that it seemed (at least to me) that playing Dark Urge kinda fixed some plot related stuff that confused me in my Tav game.
Because I am afraid tumblr shows posts completely even under cut, I will add the specific spoilers into a new post.
SO PRO:
You will get a more coherent storyline, more information and I think it will fill some gaps in act 3
Your character feels like he has more purpose, because he does have a past
Extra romance scene
Some extra companion scenes too
CON
You will hear narrator voice talk about horrible stuff, now and then, so if you are sensitive to violence - don't chose Dark Urge.
You will also have to murder some people (for me it was one person and one cat).

It seems that by trying to make the game not focus on romance they kind of forgot about it...
no one seems to have any opinions on who you sleep with, unless they also want to sleep with you. no one cared that I'm sleeping with a vampire - even tho they all had opinions on letting him stay - and after we killed the monster hunter Shadowheart said something like "I'm surprised you chose to defend Astarion." and the PC said "let's hope it doesn't come back to bite me".
of course I defended him! he's my petty, prickly, not so evil boyfriend! the correct dialogue would have been "so we're killing innocents so you can protect your vampire lover?!"
I love this game but this is an area they needed to work on.

A friend who wanted to stay anonymous datamined BG3's dialogue, alongside with tags, approval, roll requirements, dev notes... 9300 files total! I'm sharing it now.
Make sure to have both Dialogs and jscssetc folders to have proper formatting. The Link lines have the Jump function - click them to jump to the associated line. The rest of the tags can be shown/hidden as per the header.
The files are separated by acts, but be warned that there might be spoilers in the tags and game files.
