Hi, I just saw, and greatly enjoyed, your YouTube video about Splatoon demographics.I see you had to remove the usernames of the users you played with in order to not share their usernames torandom strangers online, which is reasonable but unfortunate.You can solve this problem by prepending what’s called a salt, basically just some random data, to eachusername, then running them through a one-way function. Here’s one you can use. They basically takesome input and transform it so that you can’t get the original value out of it. The salt prevents someone frombeing able to make large precomputed tables. This way, you can be sure that you will get the same value ifyou repeat the process with the same salt and username. So you now have some data that uniquelyidentifies each user without leaking their username to random internet people.Also, another possible source of error in your measurement is the time you play, it’ll likely favor people in your time zone.
The compression looks fine to me. YouTube seems to decide how to compress based on how many people will reach the video.

Hi and thanks for sharing your thoughts! I admittedly have minimal familiarity with things like hashing, so I’d never heard of a salt before. After reading more about it I think I can see how its results would be more useful than simply assigning users a survey number as I had done in the spreadsheet.
Yes I’ve gotten a handful of comments concerning time of day and time zones which I definitely agree with! If I ever conducted the survey again, recording match times and possibly having volunteers from different time zones pitch in would be some changes I’d make.
Thank you for weighing in on the compression! I remember learning after the fact that YT compression can vary based on how “big” a channel is. I was surprised, but in hindsight it makes total sense.

My most recent animation has a detail that's hard to spot so I'll share it here: the flame on DJ G-Rave's head becomes more active when he emotes! There's some glow FX on it in the final render that obscures it, so here it is in isolation ^^

Another drawing from my most recent vid! It pops up when I'm describing how my research methods forced me to leave any Splatoon 3 lobbies I entered after just 1 match (as running into the same players over & over again would be counterproductive for my research).
So glad I don't have to play that way anymore, it sucked to have to ditch teams I synergized well w/, & even ones that I don't, I like to give a couple more tries ;w;

what are your pronouns?
Thanks for asking, I wish I had a clear-cut answer to give you ^^; When I was brought into this world I was given she/her pronouns which I still use, but I think in recent years I've also become comfortable adding they/them to that

Drawing from my most recent vid that's only on-screen for a moment, so I wanted to post it here for posterity! Truthfully, I do not know if Marina's knowledge w/ machines would give her any insight to the fields of probability & statistics. However, the only other fitting 'nerd' character I could think of was Sheldon, & I don't think I've ever seen that guy angry?

Watch the full vid here! (closed captions available)
For the first time I can't properly mirror-post it on tumblr b/c it's ~15 minutes long. As someone who normally makes animations that are 1 minute or shorter, it was quite the undertaking to make something long-form like this. Hopefully I did a good job & y'all enjoy it ^^

The other night I dreamt they added a new kind of inkrail to Splatoon 3. They were similar to Splat2′s in that they could be ridden in kid or swim form. But they weren’t one-way, so you could switch between going forward & backward while keeping momentum.
Also when its timer ran out, the ink making up the rail would “plop” onto the ground instead of just vanishing. idk if it’d have any meaningful impact gameplay-wise, but it looked neat!

I feel like Splatoon 2 had a very “out with the old, in with the new” approach to a lot of things. So it’s quite interesting to me that one of Splatoon 3′s core themes seems to be “fads go in a cycle, actually, so here’s a bunch of stuff from the past.” Hopefully Deep Cut’ll get more chances to shine on their own once the nice little nostalgia trip is done, though ^^;

I never actively seek out shinies, but even I am on the boat of “please bring back the little jingle that plays when they appear goodness gracious”

Not really, sorry! I made one a looong time ago to post drawings in Splatoon 2 but it's pretty much inactive ^^;

It’s crazy to me that Pokemon Legends: Arceus is less than a year old but could be considered “old news” since S/V are out now. For all its quirks, I genuinely enjoyed it & think it deserved more fanfare instead of being usurped by Gen 9 so quickly! I honestly wouldn’t mind if they started spacing the games out more; at the very least it’d give me more time to animate ^^;

Yes I did learn halfway through making this that Marina & 8′s cases were not as literal as Callie & 3′s were ^^; But by that point, too much animation had been completed to turn back! Is this what they call committing to the bit??
I usually link the YT version too but apparently shorts can’t do that, so the link is just my YT channel this time ^^;

S’more concept art that I didn’t really know how to fit into my behind-the-scenes vid for Salmon Ruined! A color key for the characters & an early thumbnail that was scrapped pretty quickly for not really matching the short’s tone ^^;

Some character design concepts from my most recent Splatoon animation! The taller octogirl unfortunately didn’t make it into the final cut, but hopefully she can appear in a future project ^^
