i wasn't planning to post this one (it's purely self indulgent) but ahasbands enjoyers are STARVING out here, and i figure i can at least contribute some crumbs! please enjoy!
word count: 760 pairing(s): martyn/mumbo warnings: none general tags & vibes: fluff, banter, first kiss
"You know, for all these jokes about being married and cinematic kisses under the sunset, I really wouldn't mind kissing you, you know.”
For a moment, Mumbo’s not quite sure what to make of that. Martyn certainly seems sincere, with no hint of teasing in his voice and a slight smile on his lips that’s half concealed by the darkness. A campfire crackles between them, serving to break up the tension that would otherwise feel a bit stifling in the few feet between them.
“That’s… awfully forward of you, no?” says Mumbo.
Martyn tips his head a bit as he gazes back at him. “What? More forward than when I just decided we were married?”
“Well yeah, I’d say so. That much was a joke and all, but…” he trails off. The more he thinks about it, the more he thinks the idea of being married might as well not be a joke, with the level of devotion that he and Martyn have developed to one another.
“What would be forward is if I stood up, walked right over there, and kissed you, Mumbo. That would be forward.”
Mumbo speaks before he has a moment to think. “I wouldn’t mind that.”
At that, Martyn blinks. He opens his mouth to speak, shuts it, and gets to his feet.
It suddenly clicks in his head what Mumbo’s just said yes to, and his face flushes over instantly. He stands up, hands raising defensively in front of him. “I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to-”
“Did you just apologize for agreeing to something I asked you for?”
“I uh- technically you didn’t ask, you just made a suggestion and I gave a very honest answer.”
“Fair point,” says Martyn. “I’ll ask then: can I kiss you, Mumbo?”
For a moment, it’s as if Mumbo has entirely forgotten how words work. Yes, he thinks, please. The words catch in his throat, and slowly, he just nods.
And at once, Martyn indulges him. He clears the remaining space between them in a few strides, and his lips collide with Mumbo’s. There’s a certain eagerness to it, rooted in the weeks of mutual pining that have led up to this very moment, but a gentleness too as Martyn’s hand comes to rest on Mumbo’s cheek a bit experimentally.
Mumbo exhales softly into the kiss as Martyn slips his free hand into his, and Mumbo nervously laces their fingers together.
All of it is new, exciting though a little scary to cross the line they’ve flirted the boundary of since the start of the season. It’s too easy to give in, and Mumbo does exactly that, melting away beneath Martyn’s touch until they finally have to pull away.
“Was that forward enough for you?”
Martyn’s thumb traces Mumbo’s cheek idly, and that little movement alone is enough to turn Mumbo’s legs to jelly beneath him. “I-I think we went a little out of order,” he manages with a laugh. “We got married before we even had our first kiss.”
Martyn can’t help but giggle a little. For good measure, he presses another kiss to Mumbo’s cheek. “We’ve been out of order since the start, I’d say we just sealed the deal,” he said.
“Do we want to get married? Should one of us propose for real?”
“Mate, I think you just did. I’d love to marry you.”
The two of them are laughing again, and Martyn drops his other hand to Mumbo’s, holding both of them in his own.
“I’m actually not sure how much of this is a joke anymore,” Mumbo admits when his laughter finally begins to subside.
“If I’m honest, I’m not sure either,” Martyn agrees. “But I did like kissing you, that’s for sure.”
“No, right, I-I figured as much. Kissing someone for the bit would be… a little far?”
Martyn laughs again. “So that was sincere on your end too?”
“Of course, yeah. Been kind of hoping we might… you know… for, uh, for weeks now!” He has to break eye contact for a moment, a bit embarrassed to be admitting the extent of his pining.
“I should’ve made a move way sooner in that case” says Martyn, “I mean, I didn’t want to come on too… forward? I say that as if I didn’t just declare us married  from the start.”
“Yeah, exactly! That’s the whole reason we’re here.”
“I should be more forward then, I should keep it up?”
“If it gets us further.”
“Then can I kiss you again?”
Mumbo can’t help but giggle. “Please do.”
So, Martyn does.

the ratio of fics i've written to fics i've actually posted on ao3 is a little absurd. i've been writing hermitcraft fics for 4+ years, and it's probably close to 10:1 at this point if i'm totally honest. i'm considering reuploading some of my old stuff, even if it doesn't necessarily reflect my current writing style because i feel like there are people who would definitely be interested in some of them, you know?

it's been way too long since i've written bdoc, but inspiration struck! taking it back to my #bdocrevolution roots with this one LMAO
word count: 575 pairing(s): bdubs/doc warnings: none general tags & vibes: winter, fluff, banter, a bit of flirting, trees (<- i promise that's very relevant)
"Such a nice day for February," Bdubs muses, "you'd think that going for a walk in the winter wouldn't be all that nice, huh?" His gaze shifts from the dull gray sky back over to his companion who matches his pace in comfortable strides.
"It's not bad," Doc agrees. "Would be nicer in the spring though."
"Aw, what, are you complaining about the cold?" Bdubs grins, taking half a step closer to Doc to nudge his shoulder.
"No, no, the scenery," says Doc. "It's so dull. No color, no leaves on the trees, not much to look at. Besides you, I guess."
Bdubs huffs a laugh, rolling his eyes. "The trees aren't pretty in the winter?"
"No?" says Doc, "they're kind of ugly."
"Ugly? No way!" Bdubs protests with a laugh. "Yeah they're pretty with the leaves, but when they leaves are gone, it's like... you can actually appreciate the tree itself! You can see all the branches, and really understand them."
Doc hums, but says nothing, still seemingly unconvinced.
Huffing, Bdubs grabs his arm decisively and pulls him off the trail. "Come on, just look with me for a second, Doc," he says, gesturing up the trunk of a broad oak tree.
"I'm looking," says Doc, "but what am I looking at?"
"The branches. There's almost this level of predictability to the way they grow. See, if they grow at more of this forty-five degree angle here, it means the branch is weaker," he gestures at the angle of one of the branches situated lower on the trunk of the tree. "But one like this, more of a straight out branch is going to be a lot stronger," he continues, standing up on his toes to gesture at a branch higher up on the trunk. "Did you know all that?"
"Actually, no," says Doc. Though Bdubs is still gazing up into the branches, he's only looking at Bdubs, transfixed on the way his eyes seem to light up when he talks about something he's passionate about.
"Exactly," says Bdubs. "Because you don't just get out here and look around enough." Satisfied, he smiles, running his hand over the bark of the tree.
"Maybe, but I still think it would be prettier in the springtime. Not to say it's not interesting right now."
"You're unbelievable," Bdubs says, though his smile defies his words.
"Maybe I'm just saying we should do this more often," Doc suggests. "Come back out here in a month and see how the seasons change, and see what else you can tell me then?"
Bdubs blinks. "That's uncharacteristically sentimental of you. Are you just looking for a way to spend more time with me?"
Doc fights a smile as he shrugs, hands retreating back to his pockets. "Maybe I'm just interested in learning about the trees. You did teach me something new today."
Bdubs folds his arms over his chest, rocking back on his heels with a smug little smile. "Or maybe you're just interested in anything I have to say."
Doc's smile cracks through his expression, though he's unrelenting as he steps back onto the path. "Couldn't possibly be that."
Laughing, Bdubs just shakes his head. "Don't think I don't know you better than that!" He brushes Doc's arm with his own as they fall back into step alongside each other.
Despite his persistent, Doc's smile is genuine. "Is it a yes for next time then?"
"It's always a yes, Doc."

another short, self-indulgent drabble for the books because these two are super underrated and i adore their dynamic
word count: 423 pairing(s): etho/iskall or etho&iskall (can be read either way) warnings: none general tags & vibes: fluff, banter, hermitcraft vault hunters
"No, I'm telling you, that vault was brutal!" Iskall repeats. "I mean, there were less than two minutes left and then I had to go and get absolutely wrecked in a dungeon!"
"Uh-huh," Etho says, without looking up. He's leaned in from across the table, concentrated on the deep green nail polish he's glossing over Iskall's blunt nails. "I bet you'd do better with me there," he teases.
Iskall laughs, their hand instinctively twitching, causing nail polish to streak down below their cuticle. "No way! You'd have left me for dead, man," they protest with a giggle.
Etho takes Iskall's hand into his own to restabilize it. Dampening a cotton pad with acetone, he runs it over the stained skin to clean it up. "Give me more credit than that," he says, "I'd have tried to save you. You'd do the same for me, right?"
"Heroic," Iskall says, "but probably not."
Etho huffs a laugh. "Yeah, you're right, you wouldn't. Maybe I wouldn't save you either then."
Iskall smiles and shakes their head. "I don't know, maybe you're still right in a way though. I probably would've done better with you there."
"How so?" Etho asks. He lowers Iskall's hand back down to the table, and moves on to the last nail.
"I almost feel like you're my good luck charm sometimes," Iskall explains, "Even when I don't do good, you do!"
Etho hums thoughtfully. "So what you're saying is we should run co-op again?"
"I'm always saying we should run co-op again."
The corners of Etho's eyes crease, indicative of a smile beneath his mask. "Fair point." He caps the bottle of nail polish, looking over his work.
"Are they done?" Iskall asks.
"Yep. You like them?"
Iskall raises their hands off the table so they can admire the fresh coat of color. It's an automatic improvement to the chipped black polish they'd previously had on for months.
"...Stress does them better."
Etho laughs, "hey, what?"
Iskall giggles in turn. "I'm messing with you. It was nice of you to offer, and they look pretty great!"
"I don't know if you are messing with me!" Etho adds with another laugh. "Stress probably does do them better, I don't do them often."
"Well you can keep practicing on me," Iskall offers. "I think they look good."
"Good," says Etho.
Iskall admires their nails for a moment longer before finally getting up. "So how about that co-op? You up for it?" they ask.
Without a beat of hesitation, Etho follows them up. "Always."

Drabble request: Tango x grain with heavy tango angst? Pls?
hello hello! happy to oblige! gotta admit i'm a little out of my element with this one, i´m not sure if i´ve ever written this pairing before, but it's definitely been a few years if i have. i'm also less than experienced in writing angst, but i have to say i had lots of fun with this! thanks for the request and i hope you enjoy <3
word count: 1385 words (oops got carried away lmao-) pairing(s): tango/grian warnings: blood, injury, panic attakcs general tags & vibes: angst, hurt/comfort, secret life mechanics & setting
Hunched in the mouth of a cave, Tango wished it would all just go away. His vision was blurred, breaths coming in shallow heaves as he watched a stream of his own diluted blood trickle between cracks in the stone floor. He was dimly aware of how soaked he was from the rain, trembling from the cold, the pain, and an oncoming wave of panic.
A few days ago, Tango had been transported into the Secret Life world, where a distinct lack of regeneration had waited for him. In theory, a lack of regeneration shouldn't have been more than an annoying obstacle to overcome, but in practice had led him to realize that it also meant his wounds simply didn’t heal. They would perpetually bleed and ache, leaving him in constant pain while waiting for the merciful ten hearts that the Secret Keeper would grant him upon completion of his task.
Small injuries were tolerable, but the tumble Tango had taken in a cave pushed him right up to his breaking point. It had been all that he could do to drag himself up to safety, before he'd collapsed to the stone floor, sobbing through the beginnings of a panic attack.
His world was spinning as he wiped again at the ugly gash on his upper arm, his shaking hand returning slick with blood. He dragged it down the front of his shirt, his vision swimming. He thought for sure he might pass out; to do so would have been a sweet release from the pain, if only for a few minutes. Breathless and dizzy, he'd reached the point where he could no longer hear himself crying.
Tango wasn't sure how long he'd been there when the sound of shuffling and footsteps from outside the cave cut through the ringing in his ears.
"Who's there?" He cried out, instinctively scooting back. It was only when his back hit the wall that he realized he was no longer being rained on, having moved under an overhang sufficient enough to keep him dry. He wiped fervently at his eyes, leaving bloody streaks along his tear-stained skin.
"Tango?" Came the reply. "Is that you?"
In that moment, the only thing that escaped Tango was a half-stifled sob. He was a wreck, and had just enough lucidity to realize that the last thing he wanted was for someone to see him like this.
"I'm- I'm fine," Tango finally managed back, his trembling voice entirely unconvincing. Thunder rumbled distantly, followed by a flicker of lightning from the threatening grey clouds along the horizon.
Footsteps were still nearing him, and the next thing Tango knew, a figure stood half-illuminated at the mouth of the cave. He felt a wave of dread as they took a step further inside, and he realized that the person who had happened across him was Grian.
"Tango? What happened?"
Tango just shook his head. He tried to speak, but all at once couldn't. What even had happened? He knew he'd gotten hurt, and he knew he'd dragged himself to the surface, but how long had he been there? His world was spinning, his train of thought muddled by his state of panic. His breaths came quicker, and Grian was suddenly before him, crouching down to his eye level.
"Can you talk to me? Are you okay?"
Tango opened his mouth to try to speak once again, and only a sob escaped him this time.
"Okay, God, okay, right," Grian drew in a deep breath, evidently trying to maintain his own composure as he studied Tango with a concerned gaze.
Tango's sobs were shaking and uncontrollable. He wished Grian would just go and leave him to cry himself unconscious. He couldn't stand the pitying look in his eyes, and couldn't stand to be seen so utterly vulnerable and out of control. He hugged his knees further to his chest, trying to bury himself away with his head tucked between his knees.
A hand came to rest softly on his shoulder, and he flinched for a moment.
"Tango, I'm going to help you, okay? You're bleeding, so I'm going to bandage you up. We’ll start there.”
"It-" Tango hiccupped. "It won't- won't help," he finally managed. "It... it just doesn't stop bleeding." With tearful eyes, he finally chanced a look back up at Grian.
"I know," said Grian. "But this way you at least won't have to look at it." He was already rummaging through his inventory for a roll of bandages. He carefully took Tango's arm into his hands, beginning to wind the bandages around his wound. "Take one deep breath for me. Can you do that?"
Tango nodded slightly, making an effort to draw in a slow breath. He held it for a moment, then let it out. Tears were still flowing from his eyes, and his breaths still came shaky, but it was a start.
"Good," said Grian, continuing to wind the bandages. "Do it again, with me this time. In..." he inhaled in demonstration and Tango followed, "...and out...."
Tango again wiped at his eyes with his free hand while Grian secured the end of the bandage into a proper wrapping around his arm.
"Again," said Grian. He shifted to hold Tango's hand instead, guiding him through another slow inhale and exhale.
Tango held Grian's hand back, his grip tightening slightly on his palm as he followed him through a few more rounds of deep, intentional breathing. He could feel his tears beginning to subside, though his chest still felt tight and his stomach twisted and fouled with nausea.
Once Tango had properly stopped crying, Grian gently released his hand, in favor of cleaning up some of the blood streaked on his skin. He pulled his cuff down over one clenched fist so he could use the fabric to wipe Tango’s skin.
"Can you talk to me?" Grian pressed gently, as he carefully cleaned away the mix of blood and tears from Tango's cheeks.
"I... I think so," Tango said softly. His voice was weak and shaky, and he drew in another slow breath to feel more sure of himself.
"Good. Do you want to tell me what happened? Or would you rather we not talk."
"Maybe... not talk for now," said Tango.
Grian offered him a small, reassuring smile as he dropped his hand from Tango's face back to his side. "That's okay. Just more slow, deep breaths for now." He glanced over his shoulder at the sound of another rumble of thunder, watching lightning flicker in the clouds. "We'll wait it out here for now. But I'll get you back to your base when the skies clear up, and I'm going to make sure you're okay."
"It still hurts," Tango complained quietly,
"I know, no regeneration is awful," Grian agreed. He paused for a moment, rolling up his sleeves as he finished cleaning Tango up the best he could. "You know, I don't know why this wasn't my first thought..."
Before Tango could ask him what he meant, Grian had one hand on Tango's chest, splayed over his heart as he closed his eyes. He remained there for a moment, the touch feeling warm even through the thick, wet fabric of his vest. It wasn't long before Tango’s health was up a heart, the pain feeling just a little more bearable all of a sudden.
Grian smiled as he blinked his eyes back open, his hand retreating. "It's not much, but it's worth something, right?"
Tango nodded slowly. "You've done so much for me already, you know." Little by little, he could feel his panic easing, the world returning to lucidity as his eyes dried. Suddenly, he was just tired.
"You're lucky I found you," Grian teased.
"I am, actually," Tango agreed with sincerity.
"You know you didn't have to try to turn me away."
"I know..."
“Do you know?”
"No..."
Grian sighed. He reached into Tango's hair to push a bit of it back out of his face. "I want to help you, that’s all. Especially when it comes to things like this, there's absolutely no reason to go through it alone."
"You are pretty helpful," Tango admitted. "Just... thank you."
Grian took his hand to give it one more gentle, reassuring squeeze. "Anytime," he said. And truly, he meant it.

hey there! just sort of a psa that if you put in a request for specifically a ship drabble that involves a cc not comfortable with shipping, your ask will be deleted. generally if it’s in a grey area i’ll write something platonic instead, but if your request is directly romantic and involves a cc who has publicly expressed discomfort with shipping such as xisuma or pearl, i’m just going to delete the ask.
as for lizzie and joel, i generally don’t ship them with characters other than one another, however, since they haven’t made any statements expressing direct discomfort that i’m aware of, my boundaries are basically “if they’d do it in canon i’ll write it”. so flirting, for example, is fine, but i wouldn’t write say like… a cleo/lizzie marriage proposal or a joel/etho makeout scene. hope that makes sense!
anyways these are all just polite reminders! if you did submit an ask that falls into the categories of what i won’t be writing, you don’t need to feel bad, just be aware that your request will not be fulfilled.

You asked for drabble requests, could we perhaps get some ranchers or gridoc 👉👈
hey hey hey! thanks for the request! honestly i'm so biased here, so i went with ranchers fluff (and had a lot of fun with it)! open to writing gridoc another time though! enjoy, anon :)
word count: 861 words pairing(s): tango/jimmy warnings: none general tags & vibes: fluff and i think technically canon compliant??
Tango couldn’t remember the last time he’d had a day with no plans. Most days he had at least something to do, but there he was on a Wednesday morning, lying wide awake at seven in the morning, gazing aimlessly up at the ceiling.
His fiance Jimmy was still asleep beside him, one arm draped lazily over Tango’s waist. Ever since season nine of Hermitcraft ended, Tango had moved back in with Jimmy in their own private world. It seemed like a nice way to spend the break between seasons, but without any overarching projects to keep him occupied, some days left him feeling at a loss.
Tango glanced back over when he felt Jimmy start to stir beside him, yawning as he rolled his head against the pillow in a half-hearted attempt to fall back asleep. He smiled, shifting his hand to softly rub Jimmy’s shoulder.
“Morning, Jimmy.”
Tango was met with another yawn in response, and Jimmy finally blinked open his eyes. He hummed tiredly, a smile pulling at the corners of his lips as his gaze landed on Tango. “You’re up early.”
“Am I?” Tango asked.
Jimmy rubbed his eyes with one hand. “Or maybe you just slept late yesterday.”
“Yeah, guess my sleep schedule is still pretty messed up,” Tango admitted.
With another yawn, Jimmy finally conceded to get up, his hand sliding off Tango’s waist to prop himself up against his elbows.
“Are we doing anything today?” Tango asked, hopeful that Jimmy might have something in mind.
“Not that I can think of. Was thinking we could just hang out here today unless you have something you need to do,” Jimmy suggested.
“I have nothing, no. Wouldn’t mind something to keep busy though.”
“I feel like you’re always ‘keeping busy’,” Jimmy said. He pushed himself up fully so he could shuffle closer to Tango. Sitting on his knees, he reached one hand into Tango’s hair to finger-comb his bedhead back into place.
Tango couldn’t help but smile at the gesture, letting his eyes fall shut. “I’m not used to slowing down. I was so busy all the time for months, and I don’t really know what to do with myself now. It’s not that I don’t know how to relax–”
“Except you clearly don’t know how to relax,” Jimmy finished for him.
“That’s not true!” Tango blinked his eyes back open as the hand in his hair stilled, and found himself face to face with Jimmy who gazed at him expectantly. He stole a quick kiss off Jimmy’s lips. “This feels relaxing.”
Jimmy cracked a smile, resuming fixing Tango’s hair. “It is, you’re right, but can you at least admit you have a hard time with it? Even yesterday you spent hours down in the mines just mining for coal. We’ve got like, what, eight stacks of it now?”
“What, do you want more? I mean that could be my project today,” with a grin, he made a move to get up, but Jimmy promptly grabbed his shoulders to hold him firmly in place.
“Stop!” Jimmy laughed. “We don’t need more!”
Tango laughed, letting himself relax against the headboard as he raised his hands in front of his chest in a surrender. “Okay, okay!”
Jimmy’s hands finally slid off Tango’s shoulders in favor of taking his hands. He raised them to his lips to lay soft kisses over his knuckles. “Look, I’m just saying, what’s wrong with really just taking a break? Here. With me. We’ll do something tomorrow if you really want to, but you can’t just be on the move all the time.”
“I know, that’s how you get burnt out, right?”
“Exactly,” said Jimmy. “Why don’t we just make a day of this?” He gestured vaguely between himself and Tango, relaxed in bed as they were. “I’ll make you coffee and breakfast, and we can just stay here for a while.”
The soft, genuine smile on Jimmy’s expression could soften Tango in a heartbeat. Face to face as they were, Tango realized how much he’d missed Jimmy. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that there was never a better time to do nothing than in these weeks of being with his fiance. It was a rare time of his life with no projects, no deadlines, only the two of them in a remote ranch. Jimmy would eventually go back to Empires, Tango would eventually go back to Hermitcraft. These quiet moments alone were rare, so maybe he didn’t need a way to just fill the time; he could just be with Jimmy for a while.
Tango let out a soft exhale, turning his hands in Jimmy’s so their palms were pressed flush and held his hands. “...I can’t say no to that.”
Jimmy smiled, leaning in to kiss him. “I’ll make sure it’s a good day,” he assured Tango, before stealing another kiss. “By the end of it, you’ll be a professional at relaxing!”
As Tango kissed back, he couldn’t help but think that Jimmy might be right. After all, if this was what it felt like to slow down, it was something he could surely get used to.

howdy saph! how's'about 12 and 16 for fic asks for the new year? if you're still doing it :D
hey there! yes, i’m always up for the new years fic asks!!
12. will you change anything about the way you exit or rewrite this year?
as far as my actual writing process goes, my editing is usually just proofreading and making adjustments to fit characterization or flow, as most of what i write are pretty low key oneshots.
however, if i do make a change, it’ll be using the “suggest” tool on google docs more. i find it helpful when editing academic and formal papers and it’s a way to try re-working the phrasing and arrangement of paragraphs without having to delete the original right away. i think it would be useful for my fics too, especially for larger products that require more care and attention in editing.
16. do you have any fics that you used to write but never posted? will this be the year that it gets finished and posted?
oh man the fic that immediately comes to mind for this is a project of mine that i started in early 2022 called econo lodge. it’s a bdubs/doc time travel au that i would LOVE to pick up again. i wrote a layout, three full chapters, and even drew character designs (despite not being much of a fanartist) but never posted more than a few vague ramblings about it in a discord server i used to be active in. i can’t say with certainty that i’ll for sure be posting it this year, especially because the concept still needs some work and the original chapters need some serious editing, but i can say i’d like to try!

5, 17, 18 :D?
yes yes hello!! tysm for the ask!!
5. which wip is first on your list to complete?
i don’t really have any major wips at the moment! i’m currently working on a collab with sadsocks on ao3, but i’m not sure if it’ll be something we post. i will say though i’ve been planning a pix/grian fantasy au for the past few months. i have it fully laid out and i would love love love to turn it into a real multi-chapter fic!
17. do you typically answer all comments/reviews individually? do you plan to change the way you interact with your readers?
yep! i answer every comment i receive on ao3 individually and i appreciate every single one so much. the only thing i plan to change is to try to engage with my readers more and befriend/become mutuals with more of them! i really really want to make more mutuals in the mcyt fandoms i write for and i would love to interact with my readers in a more personal and interest-based way!
18. do you typically post multi-chapters as you write, or finish it all and then start posting? would you like to change your posting method?
in all honesty, i’ve had terrible luck with multi-chapter fics. in the past, i’ve tried posting fics with each chapter released right after writing writing, and those fics have never seen an end. i’ve also tried to write multiple chapters and then start posting when it’s done, but it’s hard to stay motivated for the length of a full fic with no readers along the way.
i’ve decided for my projects this year, i’m going to make sure that my fics are fully planned, with layouts for each chapter, and then post each chapter after it’s written. i think that’ll be a good middle ground between posting my fics as i write chapters and pre-writing my fics completely behind the scenes.
