A portrait of Iraq. from Janssen Powers on Vimeo.
If you Google image search “Iraq” looking for photos of anything other than soldiers and war then you're in for some serious scrolling...
Since the spring of 2016 I’ve been traveling back and forth to Iraq working on a longer form doc with Nations Media. The Iraq I’ve come to know and love over the course of these visits is a drastically different place than version of the country I grew up seeing in the news.
On my most recent trip I brought a 16mm film camera, one lens and a few cans of film to capture portraits of people I met along the way.
Shot on Kodak Super 16mm

Hip Hop Cafe from superrocketman on Vimeo.
Born out of his Jamaica sound system roots, DJ Kool Herc changed the face of the planet in the 1970’s resourcefully creating something out of nothing called Hip-Hop. Heavy bass, scratching, break dancing, rap, graffiti art and dress code, mixing old flavours making new fresh statements are at the core of the culture's expression. All of these component parts of HIP HOP, I love, live for and are the driving forces behind what drove me to write, produce, finance and direct my contribution to the culture called Hip Hop Cafe.
A short film for real HIP HOP heads globally, this one is for you. As far as I am aware a film like this hasn’t existed until now. Have a watch, like it, share it, and hit me up if you want to see HIP HOP CAFE 2

ENOUGH | The Empowered Women of Korogocho from Brent Foster on Vimeo.
Beatrice Nyariara lives in Korogocho. It's widely considered to be Nairobi's most dangerous slum.
More than 150,000 people are packed into the shanty town which is less than two square kilometers.
Crime is high. Gangs are active. Addiction is rampant.
A while back, men in her community started to attack the "grandmothers" of Korogocho at night. Most of the women attacked are sexually assaulted, and some have been killed. The men believe that the elder women were less likely to be HIV positive. They also saw them as vulnerable.
A few years ago, Beatrice decided enough was enough. It was time to fight back. It was time to develop a community.
The result of that decision empowered the group, and taught their community to respect them, value them, and to know how to be there for them.
Together, they are taking back Korogocho.

AUM SHINRIKYO | オウム真理教 from Garrett Hardy Davis on Vimeo.
From Director Noah Conopask:
On a recent shoot in Tokyo I was incredibly inspired by Japan and everything I was seeing around me visually. The streets, the people and the fashion. I learned about a doomsday cult called Aum Shinrikyo (Japanese オウム真理教) that let off deadly sarin nerve gas in Tokyo’s subway system 20 years ago. The attack was the worst in modern Japanese history. It made me think of Dylan Thomas poems about life and death. It was something I wanted to bring to life cinematically. I had a vision of a few of the cult members walking around Tokyo. Staking out the attack, the way thieves would a bank heist.
