honestly, internet is either really good or really bad but either way I'm grateful to be exist in this space.
Wednesday, September 27.
Langblr.
If ever you're in France, accompanied by your kitty cat, and you find yourself unintentionally (and quite unexpectedly) projecting intestinal gas produced within the body by bacteria that has broken down food, and said kitty cat looks a little alarmed, and you don't know what to say, well. Fortune smiles upon you this day. Consider #langblr your knight in shining linguistic armor. Chat, j'ai pété.
It really can happen to anyone. But langblr is here for all your polyglot needs: learning how to say chai tea in Czech, the frankly adorable etymology of peninsula, Greek paleographic fonts, for words of support for those underway with their language-learning adventures, or if you're in need of some support yourself. It is a particularly wholesome corner of Tumblr, for those with an interest in the slow-burn magic of learning another language.

This is for the people who didn’t party in their teens and twenties. For the people who didn’t have that “coming of age” movie experience with shenanigans and revelations. This is for the people who mostly keep to themselves. Who maybe prefer things to be quieter and gentler. This is for the people who don’t feel like they belong in a culture that values loud parties and flashing lights. I see you. And you are valid.

Some more Italian Movies/TV Series
After this post, some more movies and TV series for you! Some are more light-hearted and fun. These are all very recent (with only a few exceptions). This list is far from being complete so feel free to add more if you want!
High School
Bianca come il latte, rossa come il sangue
Scialla!
Notte prima degli esami & Notte prima degli esami oggi (talks about the night before the final exam of high school, a sort of coming-of-age event)
Immaturi (similar, but different, a group of adults finds out that their final exam of high school was not valid and has to retake it - everyone’s nightmare)
La Scuola
Comedies
Benvenuto presidente!
Benvenuti al sud & Benvenuti al nord (playing on the stereotypes between the north and south of Italy)
Ex (romantic comedy)
Beata ignoranza
Se Dio vuole
Noi e la Giulia
Perfetti sconosciuti
Romantic movies
Parlami d’amore
Lezioni di cioccolato
Scusa ma ti chiamo amore (a lot of Italian people following me will question my mental sanity for writing it down because it was the typical chick flick movie for teenage girls a few years ago, but I mean, it’s whatever ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Manuale d’amore 1 - 2 - 3 (honorable mention: the second also features a gay couple flying to Spain in order to marry)
Io e lei (movie about a lesbian couple)
Nessuno mi può giudicare
Various
Nessuno si salva da solo
Venuto al mondo
ACAB
Cesare deve morire
TV series
Braccialetti rossi
Camera Café
Carabinieri
Casa Vianello (super classic, everyone knows them. They were also married irl)
I Cesaroni
I liceali
I ragazzi della 3′C
Finché c’è ditta c’è speranza (a recollection of comic sketches put together, super fun I can’t even remember how many times I watched it)
I bastardi di Pizzofalcone

*in my italian learning era*
gratzie!
Hey! Do you have any masterpost about Italian movies/televizyon shows? Do you have any recommendation of current TV series? Thank you so much!
Hey! I may not be the best person for this my cinematographic knowledge is close to zero but I’ll try!
Classics (everyone knows them, mostly neo-realism movies):
Ladri di biciclette
8 ½
Roma città aperta
La dolce vita
Una giornata particolare
Sacco e Vanzetti
Basically any movie starring Totò (comedies)
Amarcord
Profondo rosso (horror)
La vita è bella (WW2 and concentration camps)
Movies by Bud Spencer and Terence Hill (guilty pleasure - comedies)
The 5 movies of Don Camillo (super guilty pleasure, I grew up with them)
Recent famous movies:
Il divo (about the life of politician Giulio Andreotti)
I cento passi (about mafia and the figure of Peppino Impastato)
Io non ho paura
La grande bellezza
Habemus Papam
Il caimano (about the life of Silvio Berlusconi)
Lo chiamavano Jeeg Robot (superhero movie, but the Italian way)
Tv series:
Don Matteo (high catholic content, inspired by Father Brown series)
La mafia uccide solo d’estate Movie + TV series
Il commissario Montalbano
1992 (about the political scandal of “Mani Pulite”)
Gomorra Movie + TV series
Il testimone (it’s not a TV series, but a series of docs/reportage which often show aspects of the Italian culture, but also of many other countries, it’s really fun)
Right now I can’t really think of anything else, but I’m sure that a lot of people will add to this post, there are literally thousands of great movies that I’m sure are worth mentioning!

You can become fluent in a language without living somewhere that it's spoken widely. You can immerse yourself if you make the choice and put in the work. Do not give up. Fluency is attainable, and not just for people with some sort of natural gift. Find things made in the language, things that are better in that language, things that are only available in that language, and love them with your whole heart. You will become fluent.

i am not american and have zero interest in country music but i always appreciate a beuatifully written article. <3
The kids on TikTok think that just because he was a classic country singer, Johnny Cash was conservative??? My babies he covered a Nine Inch Nails song in his seventies.
Classic country singers (the majority of which came from poor roots) were always talking about how much The Man sucked because they were taking money from poor rural folk. You’re gonna tell me that’s conservative?? Get outta here.

ode to being a self-learner
I started taking french classes in university (how it's been 2 weeks already??) i was really excited to go back to studying language in an academic environment but i forgot HOW FUCKING BORING A1 courses are. It reminded my why i love self-studying so much. Because i can control my own pace. And my preffered pace is VERY FAST.. Like i prefer to study 5 hours a day, learning lots of grammar and vocabulary memorizing. Laid back learning turned out to be not my cup of tea. I have absoletly zero motivation to study french because of school, i am currently having some *interesting* feelings about norwegian and brasilian portugese though. and spanish. but especially portugese.
