" whoa, whoa — slow down there, buckaroo ! "
the kid is shaking like a leaf from excitement, rod can't help but chuckle, hand moving to the boy's shoulder to steady him. orel's heart's gonna burst from his chest if he keeps up the enthusiasm !
rod listens on as orel continues his elated rambles, face dropping for a moment at the mention of his mother — he hopes he won't be getting orel into any trouble. though given the puppingtons' behaviour towards orel, he doesn't imagine anything like that would happen. if anything, it'd likely have the opposite effect.
he notes the hesitation before addressing him, eyes slightly crinkled as his face softens once more. laughter slips through voice as his brow quirks, hand still resting on the boy's shoulder.
" oh - ho yeah ? hm, guess ' first supper ' is another ' big f, ' isn't it ? " smile spreads across features further as he imagines the scene ... minus jesus, of course. they'd already figured out the holiest breakfast, rod prays that figuring out a first supper wouldn't be too out of his cooking territory.
" well, i can't make any promises it'll be as fancy as the ' last supper, ' but i'm sure we can think something up. got any ideas ? "
Quite content to stay in the embrace he makes no effort to move away until Putty does . He's rarely experienced being held in return by anyone really . Other than his late Grandpa .
When the minister of God's holy building pulls away Orel leans back too , to stare up at his face .
' Well , I know I'm not the greatest cook '
Orel , perhaps , shouldn't agree with that statement with the nod he is giving Rod yet he does . It's not to say that his little heart doesn't swell at the idea of being invited to have dinner with the Reverend and his small family .
The way the offer is presented to him only makes it all the more appealing .
❝ FIRST SUPPER ? Me ? With YOU ? And NOELLENE ? ! And we get to eat together like a family and I can say grace and thank God for the mediocre food and for allowing me to have another big f in my life ? ! ❞
The kid's so exhilarated that he's shaking like crazy . The only thing that puts a small divot in his excitement is ...
❝ Gosh , I'll have to tell Mom not to bother making me dinner ! ❞ Yet he thinks he can manage it . She probably wouldn't bat an eye when he tells her he's having dinner at the good reverend's house .
❝ I'd really , REALLY , like that , - ❞ Dad ? He hesitates not because it wouldn't be nice to call someone other than his spiteful biological father that ... it just felt heavy , not bad . The word is associated with a lot of pain but it can be undone . ❝ Reverend Putty ! ❞

what made you pick up the current muse(s) you have ?
at first, i had gained interest in rod from seeing a comparison of him to another one of my all time comfort charas (glenn harod.) when i found out about him and stephanie, i cried at the thought of a middle aged protestant reverend accepting and unconditionally loving his butch lesbian daughter without any preaching to her, it really solidified my interest in him
as for making this blog, it was a combination of my wife @dollene encouraging me and being very excited for it, and i will shamelessly say i was excited about the potential of writing with @moralpuppet now that i had a newfound appreciation for orel and sav's writing of him ♡ ♡ ♡
is there anything you don’t like to write ?
i'm not the best at writing heavy angst these days, i have to take breaks on stuff that's super intense or it can get to me a bit. i also only rly write nsfw with @dollene / discuss nsfw topics with ppl i'm very close to ^^
is there anything you really enjoy writing ?
i love writing mundane scenarios a lot ! seeing characters in each other's daily routines, exploring mannerisms, etc. love that stuff !
how do you come up with headcanons ?
analyzing what i'm shown and going off that + my own experiences i've either lived or seen. headcanons are very fun to make bc i ADORE analyzing people and figuring out how they think, talk, move, etc. i could spend years analyzing characters (and i have,) it's a huge passion of mine
do you write in silence or do you play music ?
it depends ! since my mind is always constantly making noise anyways, i like to have some level of noise to quiet that part and let me focus. sometimes it's music, but i also enjoy listening to slime asmr videos, voc.aloid (as i can't understand the lyrics most of the time,) random videos / movies, or animals making noises. lately i've been writing listening to wrinkle the duck
do you plan your replies or wing them ?
plan plan plan ! in general, i'm a huge planner as is, and that comes into play with writing too.
do you enjoy shipping ?
to a degree ! every character i've written as of late has been exclusive to one other character and interpretation (usually just writing it with my wife,) and i do enjoy it very much ! but in terms of casual shipping that's just in general a no-go

he yawns, a bit late to today's sermon as he overslept.
" sleep. it's one of the best things God's ever created. i mean, who doesn't like just closing their eyes and not having to think for a few hours ? heh, i know i do !
" now, i've had more than my fair share of sleep, believe me. and while it's great and all, i think there's a few design flaws. we all know that if you sleep less than you're supposed to, you're more tired. but if you sleep more than you're supposed to, you're also more tired ! what's up with that ?!
" if i sleep all day, i think i should wake up feeling more energized, not feeling like i got dragged through the mud. it's like a sleep hangover ! then you get a headache, and then you need to sleep it off, yadda yadda yadda … what a nightmare. and i'm not even talking about nightmares !
" … but for what it's worth, it's got its perks. for the first time in my life, i actually get to wake up next to someone. every single morning !! makes you not wanna get out of bed, i'll tell you that.

" friends ... though it's long since passed, i trust that you all had as pleasant an easter as i had. that weather was a bit of a doozy there, i hope you all stayed inside, away from the snow ! even if a certain ... dedicated someone didn't. "
the congregation turns towards orel.
" aa - aanyways. speaking of snow, let's hope we won't have any more of these little kerfuffles. all this weather can't make up its mind. i don't think God quite gets the memo here — we're already well into spring, the weather's gotta start reflecting that. it's bad enough i have arthritis, it acts up every time it snows, and gets warm, and then snows again ... blegh. it's sick !
" i mean, God doesn't have to worry about the weather. it's always sunny up there in heaven. all He has to do is sit back, relax, and watch the rest of us squirm down here. i think He's got a bit of a surplus of good weather, don't be greedy now, share it with the rest of us ! for hoot's sake, it's not ' april snow showers !'
" is a little sun really that hard to pass up ? you already took it out for a day over here ! so much for the rapture … "
he sighs.
" let's just hope that the spring brings us a bit more warmth, and brings it fast. the clock's tickin', some sun would be nice on my achey joints before summer hits and it gets too hot to stand, amen. "

the phrasing makes it clear this other man was, in fact, not among the so - called ' God - fearing ' people of moralton. genuine frown was on the reverend's face as he spoke.
" well, yes, it's — " he watches on as the man bites off the head of the chocolate rabbit, speech temporarily faltering. " — i, uh. well, i was going to say it's the most important day, thank you very much. though it seems you don't have the same opinion ... "
voice trails off at the end, eyes remaining on the strange man. eyebrows raise for a moment as his head tilts, a subtle arrogance that spells but maybe you should. he takes a hold of his own chocolate cross, taking a small bite of it. he tries to not let the more plastic-y taste of this particular chocolate twist his expression too much.
rvrend: rod vc: don't be such a stiff
rvrend: rod vc: you should eat a chocolate cross, sourpuss
upon the mention of a cross, his mustache twitches and his mouth turns downward in a frown. it seems the good reverend is testing his tolerance today … nonetheless, after a moment passes his expression changes just as quickly as it appeared. he had to keep up his polite appearance, after all. he couldn't let on how bothered he could get, now could he?
he plastered a fake friendly smile on his face, eyes gleaming in the light.
" no thank you, the rabbit will do just fine. "
he grabs a small-sized chocolate rabbit off the table, looking at it in his hand with the same fake smile on his face before eying the reverend once again.
" .. it's a busy day for all you God-fearing people, isn't it? "
of course his tone has a very off-feeling to it despite his thin veiled fake sincerity. he bites the head off the rabbit, still staring at the reverend.

" as you all know, today is easter ! the most important christian holiday, that sets us apart from everyone else. i left you all hanging last week, with jesus dead in the tomb. heh, i bet you've all been dying to hear what happens next. eh ? see how i did that ? "
there's a long, awkward pause and no one laughs.
" anyways ... you all remember how i left you on the edge of your seats last week, waiting to hear that final twist. what did they find in the tomb ? well, folks ... they didn't find anything. guess the easter bunny forgot to leave something in this basket.
" now what does this mean ? well — that, my friends, is the whole reason behind christianity. it's why we're here in this protestant church ! you see, this isn't a sad story. sure, jesus may have died, but that's not the real focus here.
" for you see, a miracle happened on that day. jesus, rising from the dead ! this would mark the start of a new beginning, for jesus and for all of us here. a new beginning, just as jesus rose. and just like all those pretty little flowers popping up, these new beginnings are all around, hiding in plain sight. even this easter's been much better than last year's, i'll tell ya that much.
" so just open your eyes, look around and wouldn't 'cha know it ? you might just find some new beginnings too. amen, and happy easter. "
