Red tends to have an easier time dealing with people who are older than him than he does with people who are his own age. One of the reasons for that is he didn’t really make friends or spend a lot of time with people other than his mom or grandparents. And if he did meet anyone, it was a friend of theirs, typically who didn’t have kids or didn’t bring them along. So, he just grew used to that, rather than going out and searching for neighborhood kids to play with. He never really felt lonely either. As long as someone would listen to him when he felt the need to talk, he was fine. The rest of the time he could just be on his own, talking to himself or the pokemon that populated the town center. This also probably plays into why he deals so well living on a mountain alone, with only 6 pokemon to keep him company.

His favorite holiday to celebrate is the Obon Festival, mainly because it was the most entertaining out of all the ones his family actually celebrates. He understood less the purpose of it when he was younger (now though he gets it more) but hey it literally consists of carnival rides and fire. What else could you want?

For quite a while, Red’s mother did the mother thing where they try to get you to accept the religion they actively practice. Most of the time, he wouldn’t be paying attention or would escape at any chance he got because it bored him or he didn’t understand it. most of the stories were interesting sure, but he’d always find a “better way” to spend his time, rather than “listening to a bunch of stories that aren’t true”. Eventually, she just gave up on getting him interested.

His knowledge of anything relating to religion in general  is meager, as he still continued to visit temples and the like for holidays and all that, but he wouldn’t really call himself a believer in the slightest.

Red spent a lot of his childhood studying gym leaders and champions of the time. While he wasn’t particularly intrigued by battling until he got older, he collected pokemon cards, and spent quite a bit of his allowance on trying to find the trainer cards for the leaders, etc.

He starts to rummage through his bag, managing to pull out some matches, a small book, and an empty box of mints,with growing confusion as to where that came from each time, before finding the torn up box of cards at the bottom. Turning them over in his had for a second, he tried to remember when he even last used them, and handed them over to the other.

Red tucks the maroon slab under his arm with a disappointed and almost pained sigh. He’s got like 12 of these, and he really doesn’t want them either. But, he feels to guilty to actually sell them off at a pokemart.

the way i have red characterized in my head makes me feel like every reply i make is very out of character. because the way i characterize him, hes apathetic to situations and really all over not present either vocally, mentally or physically. which makes it hard for me to make starters because he isnt one to just pull a conversation out of his ass, if the conversation doesn't go well then he just stops paying attention which would be annoying for anyone ever to reply to. im also like??? the opposite of who he is in every way shape or form which makes it easy for me to slip out of character. idk i want to rework him but that tends to make me drop stuff and i feel like i make him very bland.
