Winter
I watch it wither, like greenery planted in it’s off season
Fighting inhospitable environment for a chance to thrive
I make myself winter to your summer, am nothing but a cold wind each time I see you bloom for me
I let each message sit with only your previous texts as company as I imagine overcast skies, flurries of snow. I wrap myself in ice as I hope it freezes me through.
But I’m not winter.
I am spring. I am warm days and light rainfall. Gentle showers and bright sunlight as we complement each other’s growth - that is where I want to be - where we both thrive.
I crave symbiosis, of feeding each other, giving what’s needed and leaving behind something greater than the sum of its parts.
But you take more than I can offer.
Where I give light rain, you demand floods that would drown out all I have worked to balance. I try to meet you halfway, however before long I start choking on water, watching my green world turn grey.
I provide sunlight and you require unending heat, until the floods from before are long forgotten. The lush green hills I protect give way to fields of brown, scorched earth as you tell me I need only to shine on you.
We turn back and forth between feverish temperatures and sodden landscapes, until nothing remains but the cool, damp dirt beneath. Only when the slate is wiped clean can I see the crux of the issue is not the seasons, the rain or growth, but us. And as my attempts at shared understanding fall on deaf ears, so do I plant my own seeds.
So I become winter. And I see you shiver in the frigid weather as I make myself unable to sustain you, incapable of making you grow. If I were the key to blooming together, we could have had spring together long ago. Instead, I am blizzards and hail so that when I find my spring again, I can finally flower in peace.

okay, so today has been an absolute wild ride, but I wanted to make a post and share what’s happened with everyone here, because it’s kind of a big thing.
I went out with my mother this morning to get some Necessities from the store. on the way back to the house, we found one of the outdoor stray cat’s we’ve been feeding, Dahlia, on the side of the road. she’d been hit by a car and hadn’t made it.
as heartbroken as we were, there was a bigger issue.
four days ago, Dahlia had a litter of kittens in the stormage ditch just off the side of our property.
pictured below, the ditch
it’s about twenty inches around, and twenty foot long. the far end of the tunnel is crushed and inaccessible. the kittens? fifteen foot into the tunnel.

hm so psa bc i didn’t know this, it’s not common knowledge, and flu season is around:
apparently you aren’t supposed to take dextromethorphan (a common cough suppressant. it’s in stuff like cough syrup, mucinex dm, tylenol severe cold) with sertraline (aka zoloft, the antidepressant) bc it has the risk of causing Serotonin Syndrome, which is not as fun as the name suggests. i’m not a doctor but like, avoid drug interactions bc they can be serious.
