you know you're actually obsessed when you look at this picture and just immediately recognize it as the room of Branwell Bronte, younger brother of Charlotte, Emily, and Anne Bronte, who was a chaotic young artist with so much potential but tragically died young from a drug overdose

Charlotte calling me "gentle reader" from the pages is enough to make me decompose on the spot

“Gentle reader, may you never feel what I then felt! May your eyes never shed such stormy, scalding, heart-wrung tears as poured from mine. May you never appeal to Heaven in prayers so hopeless and so agonised as in that hour left my lips: for never may you, like me, dread to be the instrument of evil to what you wholly love.”
— Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

Me: has a relatively normal day
My brain: after Ocean's 8 what are the chances that you'll ever see an interaction between Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett on screen that is charged with homoerotic tension and almost shameless flirting again?

Edward Rochester: *has a wife locked up in his attic for god knows how many years and then falls in love with and tries to marry the governess of his illegitimate child who is 20 years younger than him*
Also Edward Rochester: "My very soul demands you, it will be satisfied: or it will take deadly vengeance on its frame."
Me, shaking crying screaming spitting throwing up: he has done absolutely nothing wrong in his life ever
I'm an Edward Fairfax Rochester's apologist.

I cannot believe that jane eyre is a real book. a CLASSIC novel. this is probably someone's required reading for english class. and it has a scene where the main love interest dresses up as a woman to try and trick the girl he has a crush on into confessing. only to find out he's later married to someone else. i imagine this is what being high feels like.

Here's an unpopular opinion....
Carol and Therese's relationship COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED at a worse time. Carol going through a divorce and risking losing rights to see her daughter forever. Therese so young (she's literally NINETEEN in the book), trying to figure out her life, having a sexual identity crisis. Both of their contexts are hard enough to understand given their age disparity, but I feel like they could have made it work had they met at a better time.
But?? As characters??? Carol was so wrong for what she did. I'm sorry but she was. She was nOT in an emotional/mental/physical state to take on a lover at that time, and I feel like she used Therese as a sort of escape from the stresses of her divorce. And Therese is portrayed as being so naive, so ignorant of what she wants ("I hardly even know what to order for lunch") and has absolutely NO concept of setting boundaries ("I keep saying yes to everything because I can't say no"). Carol as a character is a walking breathing red flag especially for someone as young and unknowledgeable as Therese. It's not that I couldn't understand Carol's situation - she was going through so much shit. But that should nOT have meant taking a younger woman on a road trip across America knowing FULL WELL the relationship couldn't last and by doing so you risk bringing even more charges against you that would result in losing your child.
Cate Blanchett salvaged Carol's character as best she could; her performance was much, much fairer to her than the way Carol is written in the book, and that's why we stan her. But as a relationship? At worst, it's a toxic one; at best, it's the embodiment of "right person, wrong time".
