Isn’t this guy giving Lightning McQueen vibes? Oliver Bearman somehow reminds me of a humanized version of Lightning. Maybe not completely his look, but his appearance and this innocent, adorable gaze. (At least in his rookie years. And he also could look more like Charles Leclerc, but blonde of course)
And Doc Hudson is like Oliver’s father. Loving his kid and hugging him after races, no matter if Lightning won or not. He says then: “That’s my boy.” And: “You got a lot of stuff, kid.”
Doc also is on edge during the races. Trying to teach and lead his kid, but it’s stressing him out because Lightning isn’t always listening and does his own thing in between.

A: Doc knew he had a son but they got separated as he was a baby. Doc thought his son died and lived with the grief. He barely survives though, cause it's hard and the trauma makes him suffer. Makes him feel numb and suppress his feelings. (It's Lightning and he finds him later and is overjoyed and can barely believe he's alive, though he doesn't like his attitude. But he wants to teach him everything he knows)
B: Doc never knew he has a son and is shocked and skeptical first as he finds out. He was never a family person but wants to try and figures out it's not too bad. They start to bond but it's sometimes awkward for both, though they can't live without each other since they knew.
This is the idea of my latest post with the coma story, where Mack starts to search for Lightning's father as Lightning is in coma after the crash in cars 3.
Consider I already have a story with similarities to option B. It’s called ‘Someone who looks like me’. Though Doc instantly wants to meet his son as he finds out.

Hear me out... what if Lightning McQueen (humanized) is already struggling with the next generation cars at the age of 25? Jackson comes into the scene after Lightning has been racing for six years. But with a twist... he never came to Radiator Springs, never met Doc. Lightning is arrogant and cocky.
Cocky Lightning meets idiot Jackson.
He pushes his old car too hard cause he wants to win against Jackson. He crashes and it puts him in a coma. For a long time. Several months. Mack is always by his side and the doctors don't know if Lightning will ever make it through - if he survives. Since Lightning once told Mack that he never met his father and always wondered what he was like, Mack starts looking for Lightning's biological father, because Mack thinks he has the right to see his son one last and first time if Lightning doesn't survive. Mack's research takes him to Radiator Springs, where he meets Doc Hudson, who according to Mack's research is Lightning's father. Shocked by the information, Doc starts to question it himself and it turns out that Lightning is Doc's son.
Doc is overwhelmed and sad at the same time that he missed 25 years of his own son. He didn't know he was a father because Lightning's mother never told him anything after their separation.
Mack tells Doc everything about his son. Doc is a little sad and disappointed about his son's attitude.
He travels to the city, to Lightning's hospital where he meets his son for the first time - his own flesh and blood. Even though Lightning is still in a coma, Doc promises him that he will be here from now on and do things right. To be the father that Lightning needs. He is there every day, holds Lightning’s hand and tells him about his life and about things Lightning is missing out.
What a shock it must be for Lightning when he wakes up and meets his father shortly afterward, who teaches him manners and kindness and shows him the fatherly love Lightning never got.

Honestly, I think I might write this story one day. So much ideas appear in my head for this. So, if you see that one day on AO3, you know how it started, lol. XD Would it be interesting though? And if you have any ideas for this… feel free to drop them in the comments.
Edit: Maybe Doc knew about his son as he was a baby but somehow after a tragedy thought he’s dead and had to live with the grief.

Francesco and Lightning
Sketch for my current project (fan-fic on AO3)
Context: Instead of Lightning Cal crashes in cars 3. Lightning is devastated because he was the one who accidentally caused the crash. Lightning feels guilty and as it gets unbearable he takes the next flight, not knowing where it goes. Turns out the plane takes him to Italy and his favorite rival Francesco kinda saves him as he finds him there on the street (Lightning tried to numb his pain with drinks).
The scene:
“And you? What are you doing here?”
Lightning shrugged, not knowing what to say. “Long story actually.”
Francesco nodded. “How about Francesco shows you around and you tell what happened?”
Since it didn’t sound too bad Lightning nodded and after freshening up in the bathroom and putting his cell phone on one of Francesco’s cables to charge it, he followed the Italian outside. He was no longer in the same alley as last night. But it was very cozy. The walls of the surrounding houses were brightly colored, each house a different one. Clotheslines hung from one house to the other and Lightning spotted at least three cats on the way.

Cruz Ramirez - backstory HC
•It had always been her dream to race. Even when she was little she watched Piston Cup races on TV and it was fascinating to her.
•Cruz always wanted to be like the King or Lightning McQueen. But it wasn't easy. She lived in a patchwork family. Her mom had married someone years after Cruz's own father had died.
•Her father had always been supportive. She was Daddy's little girl and always watched races with him. For her, there was nothing better than sitting on the couch with her father at the weekend watching Piston Cup and eating popcorn. It was their little ritual and she often longed for that time.
•Her father believed in her and kept her dream alive. They went karting together and to real races, and the tie-breaker race was the best thing she had ever seen. It was so exciting and she always cheered for Lightning. When Lightning gave up his victory, she started to love the sport even more. It was about more than just winning. Passion and enthusiasm were always there. And when the Fabulous Hudson Hornet became the new crew chief, she could hardly believe it. She always admired him and wondered what happened back then.
•To become a racing driver she needed courage. Cruz had courage, but her courage began to dwindle when her father died.
•She loved her mom - a great woman, but not as supportive as her father at all. And getting used to a new family made everything even more difficult. Her stepfather didn't think much of girls doing 'boy things'. Even though Cruz didn't think it was just for boys.
•Cruz knew from the start that her mother didn't love her new husband. Even though her mom was good at hiding. She did her best and did everything for her daughter. But it wasn't important to Cruz to have a big house and a big room with enough money. That was what the new guy could offer and also the reason why Mom remarried - her job, which she spent all day doing, was sometimes not enough to get the bare necessities.
•But Cruz would rather go hungry to bed than live in a house with Ray Reverham and Jackson Reverham. Her stepbrother Jackson, also known as Jackson Storm was like his father - arrogant and conceited. And that's when Cruz started to always try to see the good in people because it was important that she wouldn't go down herself.
•Ray didn't want Cruz to go karting. Instead, he sent and encouraged his own boy in the sport, and who would have thought that he wasn't that bad?
•Cruz had been one of the best but she listened to Ray. The last thing she wanted was trouble with him because her mother had done so much for her.
•Jackson was like a plague but after a while, Cruz got used to it a bit.
•After she had to give up her old hobby, she looked for a new one. Her father's old camera came in handy. She started to be interested in filming and photography and soon started a blog on the Internet. She just filmed whatever came to mind. Mostly it was nature.
•Jackson got into the bigger leagues and Cruz started filming his races or him in general for fun. It got on Jackson's nerves and that was one more reason not to stop.
•In contrast to Jackson, Cruz made sure to be fit and eat healthily. Ray noticed that it would be a good idea for Jackson, so she became his personal trainer. After all the trouble her mom had put in, who was she to say no to it? It was the least she could do to avoid causing stress in the family.
•She was quicker to learn than Jackson, who apparently only raced for fame. Cruz had a passion, which made it easier for her to remember more knowledge. She was able to teach her half-brother, who was two years older bunch of stuff about racing.
•Her blog became more well-known and Jackson was soon popular - mainly because of his looks. Nobody knew what he was really like behind the camera.
•Nobody would ever find out, but Cruz secretly cheered for McQueen and not for Jackson at every race. She had hidden McQueen's merchandise in her closet a long time ago.

Imagine if Lightning never ended up in Radiator Springs. (Humanized)
He would have won the tie-breaker race but his attitude would have gotten worse and worse. At some point, he was so conceited and arrogant that even the good-natured Mack had enough. On the way from one race to the next Mack finally had enough when Lightning once again proves that fame is more important to him than anything else.
Mack turns off the highway and leaves Lightning in the middle of nowhere, on a forest path. He drives out of sight of Lightning, even though he never really lets him out of his sight. Lightning is angry and desperate and throws a tantrum. There he has no cell service and when he notices that Mack is not coming back he starts walking because he doesn't want to spend the night in the forest.
On the way a car stops - Smokey, who has just returned from a customer visit where he repaired their car. He feels sorry for Lightning even though the kid doesn't make any effort to be nice. Smokey takes Lightning to Thomasville and an hour later they arrive. (Mack follows at a distance)
Smokey takes Lightning to the nearest hotel and without hesitation or thanks, he sleeps there overnight.
He never found out that Mack showed up a short time later and spoke to Smokey to make sure that Lightning was in good hands. Mack has a good understanding of human nature and notices that Smokey is a good guy. Mack then drives to the next town to go on vacation but at the same time not to be too far away.
The next morning Lightning gets into trouble when he can't pay because he has no money with him. The explanation that he is famous doesn't bother the hotel manager in the slightest. The manager calls Smokey because he has brought the brat here. Smokey comes and pays with the deal that Lightning helps him in his workshop until it is paid off. Since Lightning was threatened by the manager with the police, he reluctantly accepts the offer.
Smokey no longer has any pity and makes Lightning work hard. (Sorting screws, chopping wood for him, repainting walls...) Lightning quickly realizes that Smokey doesn't care that Lightning is famous and slowly he starts to be less arrogant.
Lightning reminds Smokey of Doc and the kid grows on him somehow, just like Hud did back then. It's not mentioned how long Lightning has to work but after two days he starts to like it. Smokey shows him an old race car that he still has from back then and he teaches him to drift at Thomasville Speedway - just like he taught Doc. Lightning sees all the signs at the Speedway with Doc’s face and the topic comes up.
After he freaks out that Smokey was the crew chief of the Fabulous Hudson Hornet, they start to talk more about it. Smokey misses him and Lightning would like to meet him.
Later he meets the racing legends of Thomasville.
The last thing Smokey knows is that Doc has studied medicine, so they start looking for Doctor Hudson's. Which of course doesn't get them much further because there are too many.
Mack picks him up after a week and in that short time, Lightning has changed. Smokey has improved his attitude through hard work, strictness, guidance, and care - things Lightning hasn't had for a long time.
Lightning lives in Los Angeles. He and Smokey stay in touch. Months later, Lightning goes on a road trip with Mack in his Corvette along the famous Route 66. Lightning becomes seriously ill with a high fever. A hospital is an hour away when it gets too bad. The nearest doctor is ten minutes away. However, when Mack searches on the Internet, he also mentions a doctor Hudson, but he is half an hour away. Lightning insists on driving the long way anyway because the name reminds him of Smokey and care. From then on, Lightning doesn't notice much. He wakes up in a clinic room and of all the Hudsons in the world, the Fabulous Hudson Hornet is standing in front of him. Lightning recognizes him immediately and is excited. Weak - but excited. Doc pretends he is someone else and Lightning gives up for now, but contacts Smokey, who immediately takes the next flight.
Lightning recovers from his illness in the town and everyone else loves him, not knowing that he is famous. Everything is easier because Lightning is nice and humble.
Since he is not arrogant, it is love at first sight for both - Lightning and Sally.
Lightning discovers the dirt track and when he feels better in the evening he drives there in his Corvette. He drifts like Smokey taught him and Doc sees it and is impressed. They start talking and Lightning mentions Smokey. Doc always felt sorry that he never came back.
The next day Smokey arrives and there is a reunion. Doc apologizes. Smokey scolds him like back then but hugs his boy he so missed.
Doc sees Lightning's potential and starts to want to come back - as Lightning's crew chief. Lightning gladly accepts the offer and they develop the mentor-protégé relationship that we all know too well.
Sally and Lightning get together and Lightning becomes friends with hillbilly Mater from Doc's town.

You all know this garage scene where Doc tells Lightning that they told Doc “You’re history”. Just found out in the German translation they told him “auf wiedersehen”, which is similar to “goodbye”, but actually means “see you (again)” (because ‘wiedersehen’ means ‘seeing again’). No ‘history’ there. They told him that they’ll see him again. And he was seen again. 50 years later… but still, lol.

“Stickers?” Sally asked and looked at Lightning.
“Yes?” Lightning replied and looked into her beautiful eyes. He never could get enough of just looking at her.
“Did you ever regret crashing into Radiator Springs?”
“Not even once,” the answer came without hesitation. “That’s the best thing that ever happened to me. And you are the most beautiful and amazing woman I’ve ever met.”
Sally couldn’t even reply to that. With a soft chuckle of hers, she blushed.
“You stole my heart, Sal,” Lightning said after giving her a gentle kiss.
“And your jacket.”
Lightning had to chuckle at her remark. “Yeah, and my jacket. But I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

Alternative version to cars 3. When Lightning pushes too hard, he ends up in a fatal accident. Includes missing scenes like Doc’s and Sally’s reaction. Can he get back to the racing scene with Cruz's help? And what if Jackson suddenly has to train with him? How did they end up at an abandoned airport, chased by the police? And why does he seem to have problems with the new car while others handle it with ease? Was his brain injury worse than he thought?

But what if… he never had the accident, but his best friend Cal did? How will Lightning live with the guilt of having caused it and find his way back into his life? Another sketch from one of my first fanfics from last year. Context: Lightning McQueen was threatened by Harv. His agent had evidence against him to ruin his career. (Lightning used an illegal engine without knowing). He got overwhelmed and ran into the desert near Radiator Springs. Shortly after that he fainted from heatstroke. Doc found him. All good. XD

That is so funny. I think we had the same idea. Sounds a lot like the thing I’m currently writing. Even with the fire suit and the baby named after Doc (also a name with H, lol). Did you post it anywhere? Couldn’t find it.
I even drew a picture of that scene with fire suit and everything. 😄

My next story is almost done. It’s an interactive (I don’t know how else to describe) one, means it has a few different endings, depending on what the reader will choose to read. (Cars 3 AU)
