Look man, Sons of Phoenix all have white hair, it's clearly something they get from their daddy. And out of all the nine primarchs, only Dorn has white hair. So it's got to be him. Jeez, did you skip Genetics at the schola?!

Fulgrim and Perturabo should switch places. Fulgrim comes from a working-class background and was known for his manners and kindness before his fall. Perturabo decimated his own sons for being "not good enough" before he met them (good enough is never specified).

Nah, they're all Barbie dolls, and the story is written by a collective of excited little girls. We all know that this is how things go.
I hate hate HATE all those 2edgy 4me theories about kids shows. Like Angelica dreaming up the rugrats, or the ed, edd, and eddy children being ghosts, or literally anything that takes a lighthearted and fun kids show and has to turn it into some tragic take of rape or murder or misinformed mental illness. So you know what? From now on I’m gonna do the exact opposite. Every cool grim-dark show is now because of a bunch of children. To get us started: Game of Thrones: A middle-school DnD campaign with the most angry, vindictive DM who has promised to kill everyone’s player characters (and their family) by the end.

This is why so many Imperial citizens survive on corpse starch. Space marines ate all their food.
Okay the thing about space marines is like. they are huge mammals, practically bear sized, active primates. On top of the normal caloric needs for a large animal to be active and fast for so long, their bodies are constantly bioactive- they produce corrosive salive, they're conatantly healing from horrible wounds- those proteins are expensive and that mass has to come from somewhere. And don't fucking "oh genetic engineering they're so perfect" me, you can only be SO bioeffecient, these are still modified humans, presumably you're not recreating their biomolecular structure.
They have to eat a TON right? They probably have the caloric and vitamin demands of a pregnant tiger, and there's hundreds of them on these ships. Are there spaceship cows tgey're slaughtering? Do they just guzzle gallons of reconstituted protein paste?
And I think this caloric need, if emphasized, only helps accentuate the fact that a Space Marine is only as good as his supplies, as the labor done by the citizen-slaves of the Imperium- whether their work is tithed to loyalists or raided by traitors. And the inequality is the point, the irony that these superhuman gods NEED the work of hundreds of human laborers to survive- that's so important! That's the evil of the imperium, the hypocracy of power!
Space Marines should be ravenous little fuckers. Show them eating more.

They're also both deeply interested in nation-building/civic projects, though their strengths lie in different areas (administration for Guilliman, engineering for Perturabo). I feel like if they'd been given a planet to jointly develop, they would've vibed really hard, come up with something brilliant, and then start screaming at each other over the details.

And I am struck silent at the galaxy brain thinking here. They're actually off on some points--I wouldn't describe Fulgrim or the Emperor's Children as jack-of-all-trades types, for one--but I see where they're coming from. They do have similar ideas, though they come at them from very different directions. Not to mention, I bet a diplomat like Fulgrim would be able to handle and see beyond that icy politeness that Guilliman tends to default to, and I think Guilliman would really appreciate that. They'd have some pretty spectacular fights--they're both very proud men, even by Primarch standards imo--but they'd also have moments where they vibe really hard together and feed off of each other's ideas. Damn I want this AU so bad.

If you're expecting him to treat you like a fellow primarch, I guess.
What I mean is, he's waaaaay more argumentative with his brothers than he is with his sons, mom, retinue, consultants, etc. With the latter he's notably warmer, even playful, and will seriously listen to their critiques. Thiel is especially notable here--Guilliman appreciates him deeply because he's willing to buck convention in order to get the job done.
But here's the thing: Guilliman gets the final say. He doesn't always exercise that privilege, but it's there. Meanwhile, when he deals with his brothers, who can push back...well, Imperium Secundus was a clusterfuck for a reason. Lion admittedly is a lot to deal with, but Guilliman isn't much better. He hates having to give any ground even to Sanguinius, who he recognized as Emperor!
I think this tendency is subconscious on Guilliman's part, but it's very much there. This is why I call him aristocratic. He is very much the gracious lord straight out of monarchist fairy tales--noblesse oblige, willing to listen to his advisors, subscribes to honor and loyalty and rule of law, etc etc etc. But he's still a LORD. He's still an autocrat who takes it for granted that he is in charge. And like all autocrats, he does not like it when a legitimate threat challenges his rule--and will do some pretty ugly things to maintain it.

guys. guys i need ur help
on the one hand i really like imperium secundus. 12-ft tall blondes yelling at each other and then flouncing off while konrad goes on a killing spree in the background. peak hilarity, what more could you want. and the next book, angels of caliban is supposed to contain some of the highlights of the arc.
on the other hand angels of caliban is written by gav thorpe. i have read precisely one book by gav thorpe (ghost warrior) and it was so bad that i swore off of gav thorpe for the rest of my life. partly out of spite, but mostly out of fear. i can't put myself through that again. i can't. if i have to read him summarizing A Cool Thing instead of actually showing it one more time i will go to a crossroads and sell my soul to the nearest devil just to get away.
so. here i am. stuck. at an impasse.
is angels of caliban readable? is it worth getting or should i just try to find certain pieces online? help me. please.
