More crossbreeding variations!! This time’s with Riolu. You can get these pups by breeding a female Lucario with the father mons listed in the brackets. I used a superheroes/villains theme for a lot of these designs, so I had to come up with cheesy names to go with them haha.
Again, i’d love to hear which one of these you would adopt! ^Q^

As someone who works w animals “animals are not mindless automatons, they actually do have feelings and individuality and are capable of feeling acute physical and emotional pain and of forming deep attachments with other animals and people” and “animals are not human infants and have a limited capacity to communicate with humans so you have to familiarize yourself with their boundaries bc if they feel threatened or overstimulated they will fall back on their basic instincts and if you fuck around you are going to find out” are statements that can and should coexist

I'm designing a logo for the facility, which Pokémon do you think should be featured? My Drifloon, Dusk, is the whole reason I am on this path. My Gardevoir, Pearl, makes breaking down communication barriers with my patients possible. And the uniform has Swablu on it even though that has nothing to do with us. What do you guys think?

Thinking of becoming a ranger, can you be both a ranger and a pokemon trainer? Is it difficult to rise up the ranks? What kind or people will I have to interact with besides other rangers?
I would say - kindof. Being a pokemon trainer absolutely has benefits for applying to Ranger school, especially if you want to work in places other than Almia/Fiore/Oblivia. Anywhere that pokeballs are a staple to everyday life - Pokemon rangers mostly act like Trainers.
That being said there are also a lot of hoops to jump through. Training a battle pokemon and training a ranger pokemon are two different things. Most of my pokemon would lose in a flat out battle - but thats not their primary goal.
My two Nidorina are trained for crowd control and rescuing people from debris or accidents. Lamp the Sizzlipede is espionage and stealth - something we use a lot to deal with situations non-aggressively. Sol is basically a non-combatant, he exclusively works in urban enviroments to help deal with emergencies where people are trapped on upper stories of buildings. As an ariados he can safely attach anchor points or even carry small people or pokemon. Sully is in training to not be a little bitch 24/7 and my Fidough Zelda is a bit too young for serious work, but we are doing scenting classes and she's on her way to be a cadaver dog.
I think Sully is a good example of what could potentially happen with battle 'mons. They often are aggressive in stressful situations because thats how they have been conditioned. Battle is inherently stressful and not necessarily in a bad way. But a battle 'mon might not be able to distinguish between "battle stress" and "ranger emergency stress".
TLDR - Retraining a pokemon is a very long process - its not entirely impossible but it is something to be aware of when applying.
As for rising through the ranks - it isnt all that its cracked up to be. If you want prestige stick to being a trainer - you get no badges or accolades in this job.
And Uhhh to answer your question about people - its a mixed bag. You get to help a lot of people but also have to throw down with scum of the earth. Think of it like high stakes customer service except i can get the Karens arrested bc usually they are doing a funny lil thing called 'a violation of ethics'.

Does ringtown operate on paid or salary wages. Bc im p sure salary is a scam
It's a general schedule pay scale based on your ranger rank. That sets the base pay, and then there are adjusments for location and other factors. It's generally yearly.

If someone tried to use a stolen styler to manipulate a pokemon for a purpose that would be against the best interests of the pokemon being styler'd (IE to illegally capture or kill) would it not work? I heard that styler work by "conveying the user's feelings of friendship" or something, but does it actually communicate intention, or does it just make the styler'd pokemon less aggressive and more friendly to the wielder of the styler?
Idk I'm curious and don't have many opportunities to interact with rangers.
Basically, if a poacher stole a styler would it be able to help them or is it just stupid
the thing with stylers is that if you don't know how to use them, you're just going to confuse and upset the target pokemon. while stylers do rely somewhat on the ranger having a calm and friendly state of mind, they also rely on the ranger knowing the pokemon's body language and knowing how to respond in turn, and they rely on the ranger knowing specifically how to convey that using the styler. the styler helps a ranger convey basic emotions like non-aggression to pokemon, but a poorly-used styler can give the wrong signal to the pokemon, and a ranger needs to actually know what emotions the pokemon is displaying. if just anyone could pick up a styler and use it, rangers wouldn't need so much training, and stylers would be far more dangerous to produce in as large of quantities as we do.
there are some people in the past who have imitated styler technology to an extent in order to misuse it, but stylers themselves are very difficult to use if you haven't been trained. a poacher without any experience wouldn't get any use out of one.

🏰 - The muse talks about a place they haven't been in a long time
As a ranger, I've traveled sometimes for work (it's why I'm in Paldea now!). Usually, it's to neighboring regions- I've visited Almia very often, and Oblivia. I've also visited Alola a lot because I have family there.
I've only been to Hoenn two or three times. No gym journeys- always on ranger work. I'd almost always be assigned to Petalburg woods. It's a beautiful forest, but it's also near a bigger city, so there's a lot of work in keeping the path clear to Rustboro, and keeping the pokemon safe from humans and vice versa. I also was part of missions tagging taillow to track migration patterns, and checking up on the health of local shroomish. Even years later, I remember this one little Shroomish that we called Kicky because, well, when it got spooked enough to spore (which we wouldn't trigger on purpose), it wouldn't just shake its head, it would also kick its little nub feet.
People might find this cheesy, but the woods felt like a spiritual place to me. I remember a time when I had a quiet moment, just able to lean against a mossy rock and be present, and I felt connected to the whole forest around me.

Pokemon Crossbreeds: Sun Lily
Sun Lily is the name for Petilil/Lilligant with Sunflora fathers. They were named after the Sun Lily flower because of the yellow flower they have gained. The breed is popular amongst certain florists. The breed is also a symbol of happiness and adoration.
Petilil
Sun Lily Petilil gain a yellowish tint to their bodies. Instead of 3 leaves, they have 2 lesves, and the tip if their bulb isn't closed. They also gain dark green stripes. Their Sunkern part does not make them weaker, but they are less active than purebred Petilil and would rather sit and soak up the sun.
Liligant
Sun Lily Lilligant are a more vibrant yellow/green and gain a yellow flower. They also gain more head leaves, with the leaves becoming more vivid in the summer. They need more sun than average Liligant, and are also more energetic than standard Liligant. While they don't stop completely at night, they will move very little. They prefer to be in open fields with direct access to sun, and a lot of sunlight will make their flowers bigger and brighter.

Muse Mixup Madness—March 1, 2024
(If you don't know what this is, see this post)
welcome back to the second round of muse mixup madness! the first time around went great, and i'm hoping to see people have just as much fun with this one!
starting this month, i'm going to begin marking prompts as high or low fantasy. low fantasy prompts should be compatible with any blog canon, while high fantasy ones might inherently involve things that more grounded blogs might prefer to avoid, like eebydeebies, sapient pokémon, hybrids, or crossovers. there will always be at least one low fantasy prompt.
(note! these labels are completely arbitrary, and there are no rules in muse mixup madness. if you're a low fantasy blog and some interpretation of a high fantasy prompt appeals to you, go for it.)
with that out of the way, let's get into this month's prompts!
1. The Road Not Taken (low fantasy)
Everyone has had decisions to make in life, some of them more impactful than others. With this prompt, you'll be looking into what may have happened if your muse chose to pursue a different path in life from the one they did.
2. Rags to Riches/Riches to Rags (low fantasy)
A character's socioeconomic status growing up has a huge impact on how they interact with the world and the person they become. If your character's family was richer or poorer, how would that affect them?
3. Another World (high fantasy)
If your character was a Faller originating from somewhere other than the Pokémon multiverse, where would they be from? What would they be like? If your character is already a Faller, explore who they'd be if they'd been a Pokémon character from the beginning.
(For a lower fantasy take on this one, you can remove the crossover element and focus on the effects of being or not being a more canon-compliant Faller.)
4. I've Got a Type (high-ish fantasy)
Does anyone else remember typed humans? They were a minor character trend around a year ago before they died out, and now with hybrids around they've been more or less forgotten. I liked them though, so this prompt is for an AU where your character is one of them! If they already have a type due to being a Pokémon or hybrid, give them something unconventional for their species instead.
5. Bonded Rivals (high fantasy, requires partner)
Maybe it's coincidence that your character and your partner's keep meeting, or maybe it's fate pulling them to each other with some sort of invisible (or visible) tether. But whatever the reason, and whatever the level of supernatural involvement, every time they see each other there's some level of fighting or competition involved. After a point, they do have to have built up a mutual respect through that... right?
(Or in other words, this one's a soulmate AU, but for rivalry instead of romance. You can sprinkle in any trappings of that you like, or keep it wholly mundane for a more low-fantasy take if you prefer.)
a little note on that last one—it's entirely possible it appeals to you, but you don't have anyone to do it with. if that's the case, you can make an open invitation post on your blog or use the notes of this post to coordinate.

-Ringtown is basically already in the woods, and I've definitely had long-term camping stints as a ranger
-100% got pokemon care guides (and encyclopedias, etc.) as gifts
-"Opposite" gender is questionable as an NB, but definitely played around with it
-I still read pokemon research papers for work and pleasure
Maybe I should try this as an ice breaker?
