Particularly if you live in Texas, please vote, just for the schadenfreude. Can you even imagine if Texas goes blue. Can you even imagine Ted Cruz losing. I’m getting giddy just thinking about the conservative meltdown. There is literally zero path to the Presidency for Republicans that doesn’t include Texas. If they have to sweat bullets for the next forever thinking that Texas might be a left-leaning state… guys, this just sounds like a fun time.

So I kept going...I liked the way this one came out. So my phone died while filming this so you don’t get to see the finished product yet. I’m submitting it to the Monster Show at Insomnia Gallery so maybe you can see it there! https://www.facebook.com/events/122027938511143/?ti=icl
My new 70-page autobio comic about moving to LA and starting in animation is now online!! I also posted LOTS of helpful links at the bottom of the page for anyone interested in story art or a career in animation. Follow the link to read more~

I drew 32 versions of Bulma, all are costumes taken from Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Super, and Jaco the Galactic Patrolman. I tried my best to put them in chronological order!
These definitely aren’t ALL of Bulma’s outfits, I skipped a bunch just because it’s hard to find full reference, or because I’m tired, or because I didn’t want to.
I have a complicated relationship with fan art and mash-ups.
When I was venting on Saturday I was frustrated because I saw someone selling works that were clearly the artist copying another artists work. I was also frustrated because very early on in the show people were stopping by that table and fawning over the fan art and I was getting ignored. That didn't last. I had a lot of people come by by table and actually had a very good night. It was a lot of fun and I made a profit.
Never the less, I ranted on Saturday, it was unfocused. I complained about the people making the fan art when instead my frustration is more accurately depicted by this Owl turd comic.
This is where it gets complicated. I don't make a lot of fan art for sale. I don't generally do commissions. But one of my recent pieces that I'm pretty proud of and has been pretty popular IS a mash up. For Insomnia's Album art show I did a Mash Up of the Let It Be and Demon Days covers, by the Beatles and Gorrillaz respectively. I still don't think I would create a pin up of a popular character for sale on my own. Which is something I have done, and in the recent past too though. See my Suffer cover for the Album Art show. Although I feel bad about just recreating that cover. Because unlike my Beatles / Gorillaz mash-up cover no real thought went into it. It was really just an exercise.
SO we get to the Adult Swim show at Insomnia. A show based entirely on creating Fan Art. I did a 1 page Space Ghost comic and a Courtroom Sketch for Harvey Birdman Attorney At Law. When I see Fan Art that impresses me the artist takes the original IP and puts their own spin, or some unique thought into it. I'm not going to say that no one else could have come up with my comic or the concept of the courtroom sketch but I didn't just recreate scenes or images from the shows.
I get doing fan art. You love the thing and you want to see what your spin would be on it. I do that too. I get putting it in your portfolio to show off your skills, nothing wrong with that. I do that as well. I get copying other people's work, it's great practice. I even do that sometimes. But I wouldn't create that with the intent to sell.
I'm not going to say I'm above this. I had stickers printed of my Beatles / Gorillaz mash up and am selling them at my table. And I totally get using other IPs to draw people to your table. But the majority of the stuff I sell at my table is my own creation and I guess that's the heartening part of this too, it that the VAST majority of my sales on Friday came from my original works.
Monday, August 27 marks 100 years since the birth of Marvel universe co-creator Jack Kirby.
Coincidentally, August 2017 also marks 25 years since Nintendo released Kirby’s Dream Land in the US.
Naturally, I couldn’t help but imagine what would happen if the two met…
