Trost Siblings
Two scientists, similar career, drastically different ideologies.
Let’s start with the one you know best:
Professor Jeremy Trost:
Mad scientist and inventor, Jeremy’s weapons bear little in the way of rhyme or reason for their design, containing blocky polymer casings, glass containment tubes, and an overall lack of tactical implements.  Several, but not all, have scopes, and fewer have iron sights.  Fortunately, Jeremy’s guns require little more than ‘point in general direction and fire’ to aim.  Most of them are so bizarre in form or too intricate to mass produce, as Jeremy seems to make it up as he goes.  He operates on the philosophy of achieving multiple utilities per device.  And lucky for him, mad science follows very little basis in real science.
Now for the less known one.
Doctor Alleria Trost:
Weapons developer and scientist, Dr. Alleria’s weaponry is efficient and made with tactical modular parts.  Often compatible with past equipment, but generally more efficient and advanced.  Since it is rooted in scientific research, her weaponry, which includes plasma weaponry and coilguns.  Her weapons are easy to mass-produce and supply, a vital feature for FEATHER.  Her philosophy operates of compatibility and flexibility, with focus on a singular purpose.

“The Man Who Sold the Galaxy”
Much can be said as mere myth in galactic lore, but one legend stands above the rest in truth...  The Salvage King.  His name was lost to the ages, but many paint him as a handsome young man whose genius and knowledge of legendary wrecks in space led him to have the biggest following of scavengers...  an army, even.
If there wasn’t enough scrap, they could make scrap, ambushing warship that strayed into the fringe worlds to enforce their laws.  It was said that he made his lair in the massive ghost fleet that drifted about the cosmos in that era, unable to be taken or commandeered, only the Salvage King could safely enter with his rag-tag army.
The ghost fleet itself, if roused, could conquer an untold amount of space.  They were juggernauts that could shrug off energy and ballistics fire.  Even though abandoned for millenia, they still functioned flawlessly, as if merely waiting to be crewed again.  The thought of these ships being active was enough to leave even the intergalactic nations awake at night.
He was powerful, he was unstoppable, and he was one of many symbols of the anarchy that filled the fringes.  Bowing to no ruler, living as they wished...  That was until the machine came.
The god-machine...  The Infinity Unit.  Made by man, so it claimed, yet it was far, far more advanced than anything ever made.  A galactic superweapon with a will.  And it came to the Salvage King to make a deal.
What happened is not quite elaborated upon, but, it’s said that someone struck the salvage king down...  Jad.  Some said he was the salvage king (an idea many reject) others say he was the salvage king’s right hand man, but all agree that Jad controlled the ghost fleet...  and for a life of wealth and luxury, he sold the ghost fleet to the machine.
To this day, Jad is reviled.  Not only does he live a pampered life from his deal, he seems to have cheated death and aging as well.  The plans to build more of the ships was given over to the Infinity Unit, and the result was the Intergalactic Republic...  A galaxy conquering engine that threatens to swallow the whole galaxy
To this day, planets on the edges of the galactic nations, the current fringe know...
Jad...  The man who sold the galaxy, and brought an end to the Salvage King.

An idea for a first chapter
It was an undocumented ruin of the Zerican Empire.  Such things were so rare it was akin to discovering treasure, although, considering what might lie within, treasure might also be found.  It was natural for Nissa to get excited.  She was a witch, you see.  An archeologist of the magical academic group the Archivum.  This discovery could put her name in the history books!
Pulling her goggles off the large floppy hat and placing them over her eyes, she then pulled one of the many glowing vials off her sash and uncorked it, dripping liquid around what seemed to be a sealed doorway.  A book was then brought up and flipped through until she found what she was looking for.  With an incantation, sparks flew across the fluid, igniting and blasting apart the barrier.  With promises of forgotten knowledge ahead, she pushed her way in.
The Zerican ruins were intact past the entry.  A bit of dirt from minor cave-ins, but overall clear.  She entered a large room, glowing stone below shining upwards, revealing a network of gears and pipes.  She couldn’t shut her journal as she scribbled frantically.  These ruins held so much history, and were among the safest, with neither traps nor golems...   And she was the first to be here in ages!
Which made her all the more surprised when she heard the voice.
“Ah, yes, over here we have the telltale portions that show this is indeed a reactor.  Note the piping.  It seems advanced next to the clockwork, but it’s all steam power in the end.”  It echoed up from the depths off the walls.  the young witch had to find the speaker...
“Oooh, I get it!”  A child’s voice.  Not only had someone beaten her here, they’d brought a child to learn!  Nissa could feel her heart dropping as she rushed down the stairs...   She could have been the youngest professor in the archivum with this discovery!  And that had to be the only entrance!  Why?  Why?  Hallways of metal and concrete turned to painted plastic, a Zerican indicator of underground living.  Finally, she came to a vast room...  lit by floodlights.  For a moment her heart stopped.  Excavation gear?  Ruins raiders?  But rather than viewing a digging team or the armed guards of the strange tomb raiders, there was...  a man and a child.  The man was waving about saying words Nissa had never heard used for ruins: New-clear? Fishin? Ato-mick?  All bizzare.  The flowing white coat he wore looked completely unprofessional for a lecture...  Archivum academics wore blue, and not billowy things like that.  The child was a small girl...  one would say cute if not for the fact she was clad in plate like and adventurer, with a massive gun laying next to her.
And, dominating the room was...  well, she hoped it was a vehicle...  a great pillbug-like blue machine, wires snaking out open doorways to the floodlights.  There was no way it could have gotten in that room...  had it been left there?  It wasn’t Zerican for sure, too smooth.  She snuck out of the room...  How could she turn this in her favor?  It looked like a freelance tomb raider and a bodyguard...  or was that his kid?  Her skill in magic was more for defense, though she had some powerful elemental spells she knew...  enough to ruin someone’s day for sure...  She quickly began to put together a plan.

Day 1 - Introduction
Vaseran is the name of the world.  When it began was long ago.  An old world, many nations rose and fell before the current era...
An era of recovery.  Vaseran is a world of adventure and magic, with lost technologies hidden under the surface.  A world where wealth can be found through either work, or exploration, where neither the maps nor the knowledge of the world is complete.  Many countries don’t even know that some others exist.
Some countries are believed to be nothing more than fairy tales.  Civilization is clustered together, walled cities are commonplace, and vast ruins are discovered often.  The world is wild and vibrant, much of it seemingly untouched, but secrets abound.
Conflict isn’t uncommon.  A myriad of people make their homes in this world, and disagreements often arise.
But just as this world is untamed, it is beautiful.
