Neibauer Season 2 Episode#3 (Crossed Thresholds)
Click here to see episode 3 from season 2!
IT’S HARD TO GET COP UNIFORMS
Tumblr media
Although I wanted to come up with a futuristic uniform design, I didn’t have the time or budget so I wound up getting some guard uniforms.  Man, cop shirts are hard to come by and expensive!  It was also oddly hard to get their nametags and had to get them engraved.  I sadly no longer have the shirts but still have the tags.  Badges I wanted to be done in post production from the very beginning.
SOCCALY
Tumblr media
Vivienne mentions that Inverso has fled to Soccaly.  This was also the place that Alfonsina was trying to escape to at the last episode of the first season. Soccaly is “SOuth CALIfornia” since in 2024 California has been divided into two states.
BAD ASS DAD
Tumblr media
Mike Connell was recommended to me by the Executive Producer of the series.  He was a solid guy.  Really funny between takes and was able to express volumes with a glance.  Easy to direct and always had great feedback.

SIPPBOOT WAS ALSO KATNISS
Tumblr media
Sort of.  Sorry for the clickbait.  I met Kristen Brancaccio while working at YouTube.  She was doing lots of great stuff with The Key of Awesome/Barely Political and man was she kind enough to appear in the series.  She’s another person that can do lots and lots of great performance with just a glance.  Her own YouTube work is profound and she makes an amazing Katniss.  She’s also a finalist for Project Greenlight Season 4!  Check her out at the links below!

Breaking Bad Parody
THE ZAPRUDER THRESHOLD
Tumblr media
Zapruder Threshold is the second arc of the series and here Vivienne explains what that is.  The Threshold explains why you can’t reboot Abraham Lincoln or Genghis Khan: you have a limited period of time to make a reboot of someone before their brain isn’t up to the task.  I didn’t set a specific limit but my thought is it would be a very short period of time like a week or so.  This would qualify as a “Cinema Sin” because through exposition only benefitting the audience the characters are explaining important elements (even though Neibauer wouldn’t need it explained to him).  Cut for time would be more details on the mechanics of how a BOOT is made: you have the physical hardware called the Crown, a device placed on the head and shot into the brain to pull the data.  Then a software program called Lazarus 5.3 is used to actually generate the hologram.  This would have been used in the third arc where Neibauer meets the creator of the software, a man named Lars Leth.
SOMEONE SET US UP THE BOMB
In a previous draft, Neibauer does not awake unconscious in the street but instead regains consciousness chained to a chair in a warehouse.  The room has tons of evidence and a bomb that will incinerate everything near it, including Neibauer.  In the previous draft, Neibauer frees himself and has to use Vivienne’s help to disarm the bomb.  They can’t disarm it so Vivienne comes up with an idea to create a holographic recreation of the bomb and rewire it so that when it explodes it’ll detonate the fake bomb instead.  The holographic bomb goes off without blowing up anything and Neibauer goes through the evidence that was going to be destroyed.  Among it is evidence implicating Borghouts in several murders.  Neibauer goes to investigate the spot and is greeted by Borghouts, who is ordered by Nomoh to kill him.  If we were to keep this scene it would have introduced the flashbacks to SippBOOT in a later episode, which felt way too late and out of left field.
THE ACADEMY DAYS
Knowing that Borghouts was going to try and kill Neibauer at the end of the episode, I wanted to start off the episode with their relationship genuine and untainted.  In a previous draft we see Borghouts and Neibauer as rookie cops beginning their training in the holographic necromancy division of the police force.  The entire scene was supposed to be reminiscent of a Reservoir Dogs/Tarantino moment where main characters before a big event chew the fat and talk about something unrelated to the immediate goings on (ex: the car ride where Blonde, Pink, and White talk about Pam Grier).  It was fun to write and was a great moment but for a 5 episode web series there just wasn’t enough room for it.  It was also too light hearted.  Since this was the third episode of five I still needed to keep everything on track.
Thanks for reading!  Only two more parts to go!  Neibauer vs Borghouts, then Neibauer vs Suluc Nomoh!

Neibauer Season 2 Episode#2 (Inverso’s Reversal)
Click here to watch the second episode of the second season!
Get knocked down, get back up.  Repeat.
Tumblr media
The first three episodes of season 2 start off with Neibauer getting the crap kicked out of him.  I really wanted Neibauer to be worn down mentally and physically and it was great to layer on the bruise makeup at the beginning of every episode.
The past is a ghost with teeth
Tumblr media
I hate origin episodes.  They’re slow, they’ve got too much exposition, and it makes the audience impatient as they wait for the good stuff to happen.  The first season started off with a simple premise and ran with it, answering questions along the way.  Season 2 lays out a story in which the past and present collide.  We learn a little bit about Minuette, a very important woman in Neibauer’s life in the first season, and in this season we get lots and lots of flashbacks to when Neibauer and Borghouts were cops.  In this episode we show quick teases to things that happened in Neibauer’s past as a reward for us being so tight lipped in the first season.  The flashbacks we see are to when holographic necromancy was legal and used by the NYPD.  I had a lot more scenes of early Neibauer/Borghouts cop days but unfortunately it took the story too far in another direction.  The idea was that the past was coming back to haunt Neibauer and he’d have to atone for previous actions.  It was also planting seeds for things that would have happened in season 3.
Champions of the Dead
Tumblr media
World building is important to me.  It helps with suspension of disbelief and making the work feel larger than it is.  The Champions of the Dead are a group of people that are morally opposed to holographic reboots.  I remember when developing the idea for this series, a friend asked me a great question:  “What are the holograms really?”  You can ask this about any science fiction or fantasy piece.  What do vampires really represent?  What do zombies really represent?  The Borg from Star Trek are a great alien race but to a degree they also represent the dangers of technology, uniformity, and literally assimilation into a larger culture.  For me the idea of fear of holograms comes from the fear of the loss of control.  It’s a similar reason why people don’t want to be kept on life support if they’re brain dead.  Or the fear that being a hologram prevents/delays you from getting into heaven.  Or being a hologram is the 21st century equivalent of being a ghost.  Pick your poison, but  I wanted in season 2 to have technology evoke an evangelical fear in people.
INVERSO
Tumblr media
I had a friend in college named Patrick Inverso and I loved his name.  I put it in my back pocket as “Hey if I ever need a cool character name I’m going with that.”  The man that plays Inverso is Michael Birch.  I met Michael when I was working at YouTube.  He has reoccuring roles on the YouTube channel The Key of Awesome.  He’s a hilarious guy and the pinnacle of professionalism.  He was very, very kind to come in for a few hours one day and film his scenes.  Mike did his scenes in 1 take.  He memorized gobs of dialogue and made every line believable.  I loved working with him and you can learn more about his current projects here:
Michael Birch website
One of my favorite Michael Birch episodes from KOA!
Thanks for coming back!  Next week we talk about episode 3 and the big scenes that didn’t make it, including a holographic bomb, a holographic family reunion, and more!

Neibauer Season 2 Episode#1 (Fighting Champions)
Click here to watch the season two premiere!
SEASON TWO KEPT WITH THE FIRST SEASON BUT WAS LESS MALTESE FALCON AND MORE CHINATOWN
Movies like Angel Heart, The Last Boy Scout, and Chinatown really beat the hell out of the protagonist figuratively and literally.  Season one was a noir exploration into pulp fiction type of storytelling.  I wanted season 2 to be more of the same but be more about the physical hardships that the main character had to go through.  It’s easier for the main character to quit and walk away but he’s compelled to see the case through to the end out of moral obligations and because he can’t let it go.  From the beginning of the episode we see Neibauer getting knocked around by the episode’s villain.  And in every episode he’s placed in physical peril with no end in sight.
AWESOME CAST
This episode I got to work with some amazing people.  I wanted to start off season two with a packed episode and it’s loaded to the brim with TONS of stuff.  Let’s start off with the guest star hologram of the season: Nick Feitel!
Tumblr media
Nicholas Feitel I met while at NYU.  He’s a great actor and funny guy and I’m flattered that he signed up for this episode.  Perhaps you’ve seen him in commercials or sketches on the web.  Here are some links to things he’s been in:
A series of first dates

3 Musketeers Commercial
Tumblr media
Aldous Davidson is also someone that was an NYU graduate but did not meet him while I was there.  We worked on a number of projects afterwards together where he primarily plays the hero, but for this episode I wanted him to be the villain.  We talked about how the character would be and look and Aldous came up by himself with the accent, clothes, even the haircut.  He’s done tons of professional work and you might have seen him on MTV’s Guy Code (he’s even got a speaking role in The Dark Knight Rises!) but here’s a list of things to see him on the webs:
Yo!  Merman Sucks
Guy’s House of Greek Mythology
RENDERFIST!
Tumblr media
Rob Penty (left) I had the pleasure to work with when we were a part of a comedy troupe called etc... (experimental troupe comedy).  Right now he’s doing a lot of spoken word storytelling and coaching.  Richardo Wilson (right) I met while working at YouTube.  He’s a very active guy and has got a fantastic understanding of web based content.  Richardo is a great entrepreneur and I’m always excited to learn about what he’s working on next.
Here are some links to what Rob has been up to:

EASTER EGG
Tumblr media
During the flashback Vivienne gives Neibauer a breakdown of what the case will be.  The file gives information about Ruby Pyon and you’ll see that the second line says REBOOT DISPUTED BY AUNT.  Normally if you want a Post Mortem Private Eye to do an investigation you send a video giving them permission.  For this season, Ruby’s aunt sends in a video actually asking him not to do it.  Check out the link HERE giving reasons why Pyon should not be rebooted.
Tumblr media
That’s it for this week!  Next week we get flashbacks to some of Neibauer’s previous cases as well as learn about The Champions of the Dead and their former leader, Charlton Inverso!  See you in 7!

Neibauer Episode#5 (Nervous Twitch)
Click here to see the final episode of the first season!
SOCALI
Tumblr media
Throughout Neibauer references are made to “SoCali” (pronounced either as “sock-a-lee” or “soak-a-lee”) without much explanation.  SoCali refers to the 51st state in the United States of America.  By 2024 California has divided into two smaller states: Northern California (NoCali pronounced “Knock-a-lee”) and Southern California (SoCali).  SoCali is a place that, due to lax aquatic boarder security and corruption is a place where many a criminal flee to.  SoCali was where Alfonsina was going to run to after stealing money from Arch Fletch.
OLD SCHOOL PROJECTOR
Tumblr media
The technology behind was something that I wanted to mention but not necessarily delve into, at least not in the first few seasons.  I like when technology and magic become interchangeable.  So this cube, instead of being an impossibly elaborate machine, is just a glass box with some led lights in it.  This begs the question: “Why have a 5 hour hologram if i you can just use a holographic projector that can last as long as you want?”  It was the idea that a holographic projector is just projecting a program that acts like the person you want it to, opposed to a holographic reboot, which comes directly from a person’s memory and in theory is that person just not as a flesh and blood meat body.  You should be able to tell the difference if you know the person intimately.  Which is why Neibauer after staring into Alfonsina’s eyes is able to tell that she is not human.
Tumblr media
Neibauer is able to tell that she’s holographic by studying her.  There are other ways that people would be able to tell a hologram from a person that would be revealed in later episodes.  For example, holograms adversely affect neon signs.
HOMAGE
Tumblr media
I’m a big fan of Blade 2.  There’s lots of action and fun scenes.  One of my favorite scenes is at the end when the woman that Blade holds in his arms turns to dust after the sun comes up.  I wanted to have their last moment be something similar where FletchBOOT breaks down into basic holographic elements, which are shards of light and sound.  When TrayBOOT decomps it’s destructive and pops with explosions.  When FletchBOOT decompiles it’s gentle like a bubble but we do hear the sound of glass breaking to show that there’s still some destructive qualities to what just happened.
Tumblr media
For Alfonsina’s final moments I wanted something less pure to let the audience know something was amiss.  Instead of something beautiful happening her image becomes distorted and damaged, and we literally see through her.
NEIBAUER AS A NARRATOR AND A CHARACTER
Tumblr media
There’s a great line in Brad Meltzer’s Identity Crisis where I think Green Arrow describes Superman and says despite being the most powerful man on earth he still sees and hears what he wants to.  Neibauer is someone that has to play both sides of the fence.  He needs to be the smartest man in the room at the same time be blissfully ignorant.  At the end of the episode he needs to talk to Arch Fletch’s wife.  He tells her a version of the truth which is neither right nor wrong.  He realizes that there are no simple truths and that sometimes people deserve better than the truth.  Any manipulation he does is an attempt to make things fair and to minimize hurt.
Hey you made it through the first season!  Thanks for watching!  Come back next week to take a look at backstory, alternate plot lines, things that didn’t make the cut, and more!

Neibauer Episode#4 (Her Name Was Minuette)
Click here to see Episode 4!
Tumblr media
WHO WAS MINUETTE?
Minuet was a character on Star Trek: The Next Generation’s episode “11001001″ in which Riker has a strong connection with a holographic character.  Given my love for Star Trek I thought this would be a cool homage to the show as well as deal with the topic of holograms.  So who is the Minuette character in Neibauer?  It was certainly vague in the first season and was written but cut as a flashback scene in the second season as to who she was.  What is stated in this episode is that Borghouts took her from Neibauer.  Technically he’s telling a story about a guy named Gene but that’s Neibauer’s first name.  So one possible scenario is a literal one where Borghouts took Neibauer’s wife or girlfriend from him.  Then we get into some potential funny/bizarre territory where I thought it would be something important but less literal like Minuette was Neibauer’s cat.  A third scenario that exists is that Minuette was a hologram that Neibauer was enamored with and Borghouts was the one that brought him back to reality.  A forth scenario was at the Police Academy if you wanted to go into the Holographic Necromancy Division you had to pass the “Minuette Scenario.”  Still not sure if I’m going to use that or not so maybe I’ll withhold the description for now.
HIDING PLACE
Tumblr media
The front of where Alfonsina is hiding is an experimental music venue on 1st street and Avenue C in New York City.
Tumblr media
The inside was shot at 440 Studios in New York City.  I have used this location countless times to rehearse and audition people.
THE BRIBE
Tumblr media
FletchBOOT tries to bribe Neibauer with over 800,000 dollars.  The person that played Neibauer is Trevor Foley, who in real life works in finance.  I asked him about what are some nightmare scenarios in the future dealing with the economy.  He said that similar to Europe uniting under one unit of currency, the American dollar could implode and we could be forced to unite our currency with other countries on the American continent, giving birth to the “Amero” (a play on the Euro).  In previous drafts FletchBOOT offers him Ameros but it just sounded weird.  We also talked about how people still called them dollars even though they weren’t unique to the American economy so that’s still something that I could pursue.
SKINNY BITCH JESUS MEETING
Tumblr media
You heard me correctly!  The woman that plays Alfonsina is Leah Rudick and she is one half of the comedy duo Skinny Bitch Jesus Meeting.  She is one of the funniest women I’ve ever worked with.  I’ve directed/shot other things with her in it and she has a great presence and attitude and a joy to work with.  I cast her in this dramatic role because of her range.  Because of the reveal in episode 5 it’s like she has to play two characters: one sympathetic and one cold and psychopathic.  She did it with ease.  Check out these links involving Leah Rudick and Katie Hartman:

The Fantasy Hole

That’s it for this week!  Sorry we were late!  Next week is the final episode of the first season!  Then we get into season 2!  Tons of stuff was cut from the second season so I can’t wait to recount!

Neibauer Episode#3 (Friday Night, Monday Afternoon)
We’re at the midpoint of the first season!  Episode 3 introduces Neibauer’s partner when he was on the police force!
BORGHOUTS
Borghouts was played by Matt Gaetano Levin.  He’s been my friend since childhood.
Tumblr media
Borghouts and Neibauer met while in the Police Academy in New York City.  The second season was supposed to have a flashback to them while they were cadets.  It was written but not filmed.  In the future I did have plans for Neibauer to be absent and the episode would take place from the point of view of Borghouts.  The character is part Jack Vincennes from L.A. Confidential and part Joe Fontana from Law & Order.  Jack Vincennes, when asked why he became a cop, laughs because he doesn’t remember.  To him he got swept up in the power that a cop has but forgot what to do with that power.  Joe Fontana wore expensive outfits and was very particular about his appearance.  Regardless of what he was wearing, when antagonized he had no qualms about using force to expedite things.
Tumblr media
Borghouts would rather look good and lose than win and look bad.  He still cares about his job but image is extremely important to him, whereas Neibauer doesn’t prioritize in that sense.
Matt has been in a lot of high profile movies such as The Dark Knight Rises and Men In Black III.  I had the pleasure of directing a movie he produced and co-wrote called Waiting for the Cut.  Check out Matt’s IMDB profile.
Tumblr media
EXPANDING THE WORLD
Tumblr media
One of the important things about web content is that it needs to be flexible.  I tried to structure the act breaks like a television show so that if someone at a network asked if Neibauer could be a 30 or 60 minute procedural drama the answer would be a resounding yes.  So if you add up all 5 episodes it’s around 24 mins or so.  What it needed to be beefed up to 44 minutes?  A plot point that was outlined but neither written or filmed was more scenes involving Vivienne trying to keep Arch Fletch’s wife preoccupied while Neibauer tries to solve the case.  The wife would have come down to the office and demand to see Neibauer and Vivienne has to calm her down.
IF I HAD MORE MONEY
Besides Borghouts having a better suit than Neibauer he was going to have better gear.  Borghouts would be sporting holographic gear from the NYPD, even old items that he “kept” after the Department of Holographic Necromancy was disbanded.
That’s it for this week!  Next week we finally get to meet Alfonsina, we learn about why Neibauer and Borghouts hate each other, and we finally leave the damn apartment (which is where Matt grew up. Not that it’s a bad place, but we probably shouldn’t have had so many episodes take place there)!

Neibauer Episode#2 (End of Line)
Hey, you’re still here!  That’s great!  Episode 2 dives deeper into the mysteries of the first arc in which we ask: Who killed Arch Fletch?
Click here to see Episode 2!
MEMENTO ERGO SUM
Tumblr media
This is a variation of the saying Cognito Ergo Sum: “I think, therefore I am.”  The title is explained by Neibauer when he is trying to calm down FletchBOOT, saying that holograms are basically walking memory.  If holograms get agitated or physically compromised they’ll collapse or “decomp.”  The title means “I remember, therefore I am.”  Neibauer says he’s going to avoid any boring technical jargon an mentions “Zapruder Thresholds” which is name of the second story arc after this one.  A future story arc would explain the limitations of holographic necromancy.  For example, why there’s a 5 hour limit on a hologram and why can’t you just make another hologram after the first one disappears or why can’t you make several holograms at once?  I was hoping that people would naturally ask these questions but not have it take away from the story.
The title of this week’s episode (End of Line) is borrowed from Tron!  If you don’t know what that is Delete Your Account.
SPECIAL EFFECTS
I first met Cameron Sun while I worked at YouTube.  He was making amazing special effects videos and one day he said “Hey, Chris, I’ll see you at NYU in the Fall.”  I thought that meant he was going to be teaching in September.  Turns out he was enrolling as a Freshman!  Cameron is very mature and smart and I’m happy to have worked with him before he got too big and famous and stops returning my instant messages.
Tumblr media
Cameron helped design the “decomping” effects that happen to FletchBOOT and TrayBOOT.  They’ve got a great look to him and was spot on with what I was looking for.  I wanted it to have an 8-bit lo res effect and it Cameron nailed it!
Tumblr media
Check out his YouTube channel here:
Cameron Sun’s YouTube channel
BOB TRAY
Tumblr media
Bob Tray was played by Jamil Ellis and has been a friend of mine ever since I was fifteen.  We performed in a comedy troupe called etc for many a year and have been collaborative partners on a variety of projects.  Jamil was kind enough to come in and be a day player in this small but important role.  In this scene Jamil yells “You’re a hologram!”  I wanted to instead come up with a derogatory term for a hologram instead.  Unfortunately I had dead head and couldn’t come up with cool futuristic slang that would have captured the general paranoia and fear of being a hologram, which in my mind would be kind of viewed as a digital zombie or soulless electronic ghost.  Jamil currently is doing a fantastic one man show entitled Magical Negro Speaks.  You can find out more by clicking here:
Magical Negro Speaks
BREAKING RULES
Tumblr media
Technically everything is from Neibauer’s perspective since he’s doing the voiceover and he’s the one presenting the audience with the story.  In the entire stretch of the show, this is the one shot that’s a cheat because it’s from the perspective of Bob Tray.  This is my homage to Taxi Driver.  In it there’s a deleted scene where Harvey Keitel’s “Sport” is dancing with Iris.  Scorsese liked it but in the edit room realized it’s impossible to have in the film because Travis Bickle is not there and the audience can’t see it because it’s not through his eyes.
IF I HAD MORE MONEY
Tumblr media
Vivienne calls and Neibauer off screen puts the phone on mute.  In the script Neibauer has an “iDevice” which is basically a clear piece of plexiglass that I was going to put special effects in later.  Didn’t have the time or money to do it.  Neibauer was going to have a number of futuristic wearables (see last week’s post about the portable 3D printer) that would make it the show feel like futuristic noir.
Thanks for coming!  Next week is episode 3 where we introduce Neibauer’s former partner, Borghouts!

Neibauer Episode#1 (Bringing Out The Dead)
The first episode of NEIBAUER premiered three years ago today!  I thought it would be great to do a trip down memory lane and do some scene anatomy, backstory, and talk about what I would have done with more budget.  I self-financed and if there was more money more things would have happened.  Some minor, some major, but maybe they’ll appear in future episodes along with future funding.  I’m going to repost an episode each week and provide info about the episode as well as the overall arc so come back every week!
Click here to see Episode 1 from the story arc Memento Ergo Sum: Bringing out the Dead
DID YOU SEE THE TEASER?
Tumblr media
There’s an exclusive Facebook video that wasn’t available on YouTube that explains how Neibauer got hired and how one hires a Post Mortem Private Detective.  The wife was played by my friend Rebecca Robertson.  I collaborate with her frequently and if you want to see our super secret project then click here.  After doing that Click here to see Arch Fletch’s wife hire Neibauer.
THE LOOK
Tumblr media
If you take a look at the style it’s not straightforward black and white, it’s almost more like black and silver.  I was inspired by Jay-Z’s Empire State of Mind.  In post production I made massive adjustments to the gamma curve.  I also knew this would help because I shot this at night with no lights so there was going to be a lot of grain due to a high ISO.  I shot this on the Canon T3i and recorded sound with an H4N zoom.  I shot most everything with a very shallow depth of field partially because of the look and also because of the fact that at night on the street there isn’t a lot of light and I needed a wide open aperture.
Tumblr media
I wanted the show to take place in an “anachronistic future” so I picked throwback locations.  FletchBOOT’s conversation with Neibauer was shot in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan where there are still cobblestone streets and old storefronts.
I don’t like seeing my name more than 2 or three times so if you see people credited for the sound or camera those are made up names they were just me (cinematography is credited to Chan Sick Fon but that’s my Chinese name.  That was me behind the camera).  Also as an homage to noir filmmaking almost every shot is canted (at an angle with the ground).  Also most of it takes place at night with the exception of the last episode.
SHOT AT YOUTUBE STUDIOS
Tumblr media
This first shot was one of the last things that we actually filmed.  At the time I was managing YouTube Space New York and shot this scene after hours.  Justin is on the operating table (which was just a metal table) and he was covered in a sound blanket.  Yes he is shirtless.
NEIBAUER’S OFFICE
Tumblr media
My friend worked near Union Square in an old office.  He does SAT tutoring and the office looked old school, like the Barney Miller police station.  When you walk around in NY you see a room or an office or a street and you file it in the back of your mind as a future movie location.  Totally did that with that place.
VIVIENNE
Tumblr media
Vivienne is played by Natalie Kim.  Vivienne’s character was always meant to be the brains of the operation.  She’s like Dozer to Morpheus.  This was also an homage to one of my favorite series Max Headroom where you had Amanda Pays’ character sitting at a computer giving help to Matt Frewer’s Edison Carter.  In future episodes we find out how Neibauer met her, we find out she’s actually MUCH older than she says, and she leaves her desk to help Neibauer on a special case.
Natalie and I performed sketch comedy for years and I always admired her work.  She was kind enough to be in the show and is in a variety of shows.  Check her out:
It’s a Draw with Natalie Kim
Natalie Kim Vlog
OPENING SHOT OF NEW YORK
Tumblr media
After walking around NY for an hour or two I couldn’t get any really good city shots.  I tried shooting down Broadway and FDR Drive but nothing really spoke to me.  Eventually I found myself on the to of the Empire State Building.  Shot this hand held and had to keep really steady but it was a great feeling being on top of the world.  I made an elaborate facebook post about it and then the app crashed.  Oh well.
WITH MORE MONEY...
Tumblr media
I was working with an artist on this design idea I had and in the end I didn’t have the money or time to make it.  The series takes place in the year 2024 and I wanted cool gadgets but nothing too fancy.  No flying cars or anything like that, but I thought Neibauer, someone who is on his feet and having to be improvisational with almost everything he does AND being on a time crunch, would have a 3D printer on him that was attached to his wrist so he could make anything at anytime.  It could print almost anything from a bat to a rope to a gun.  In this case if I had more money/time there would have been a sequence here in which Neibauer rapidly prototypes a lock pick and breaks into Fletch’s apartment.  In this version they just enter, probably because Fletch knows the key code or Neibauer talks his way in.
IF I DID IT AGAIN...
Tumblr media
Neibauer is an homage to detectives from pulp fiction.  I thought the hat would be a part of the look but oh man Trevor hated that thing.  I thought it would translate better on camera but it looked... not as well as I wanted it to.  It was a hat I bought when I was in Ireland and the sucker was hella rainproof but before a scene Trevor would ask “Do I take my hat off here?”  I probably would have had him go hatless or we can put this under the what would I do with more money category and buy him an nice fedora.
If you have production questions please ask!  I hope you enjoy the episode!  Come back next week when we talk about episode 2!  Happy 4th of July!
