Last but not least of my Scrybe redesigns, it’s P03! I’m so happy to be done with these four fellas, they were so much fun!
Design thoughts + Alt with a few expressions under the cut!
-Firstly, P03 looks as if he can’t survive in the water-heavy environment his factory is set in, so I wanted to give him some extra protection in some way. And I asked myself: what could I do to design him a cool water-ish based ‘shell’ of some sort? There were a couple of ideas, but I ended up going with a diver’s helmet for the shell! Judging by his crustiness here, it’s not holding up too good in the ‘protection’ department.
-Originally I wanted to make his shell a diving bell, but I couldn’t find a shape that would work for him with that idea, hence the diver’s helmet shell. However, I did make his base shaped similarly to some older diving bell models : >
-Also tied to his shell, his wiring and internals are firmly attached to his inner shell. You know how turtle shells are actually part of their body? It’s like that.
-I decided to make his head a bona fide computer, so his head looks more accurate to computers that would have been in use during Inscryption’s development.
-His pressure gage has 6 little nodes, referencing his energy meter mechanic.
-He has a faded bandana around his neck, it’s to tie into his love of cowboys and bounty hunters! If you ask him though, he’ll just say it’s for extra water protection around where his neck and shell connect. He’s too proud to admit he has a very teensy tiny cowboy cosplay lol
-I really like when he has a nose sometimes in his original design, so I was like: what if he had it all the time? It also gave me a way to connect his face together since I wanted his face to be more interconnected. Maybe so he can have an easier time generating his faces? Idk!
-The Alt without the intricate details is below, and I wanna say thank you for reading these notes and keeping up with these redesigns! I’m not sure if i’ll ever touch all of the subordinates because of time, but it is certainly tempting!

Next up with the Scrybe Redesigns, It’s Grimora! I can’t believe I’ve gotten this far into this little design project already!
Design notes and General thought process/simplified version under the cut:
-First off, something that always bothered me about Grimora and the whole land of the dead in general is that it feels like it has less…effort put into it? I’m not saying that’s the case, but there’s definitely signs maybe the time crunch in Inscryption’s development affected some visual elements, like Grimora’s ghouls all having the same sprite with minor alterations while every other Scrybe has pretty distinct underlings. Seriously, you have so many concepts at your disposal with the undead and ALL of them are skeletons? But I digress, this is becoming less about Grimora.
-So! Grimora here is inspired by a lot of European and English elements, such as her Victorian-inspired dress and her Grotesque-like appearance! (Not being mean, by the way! Fun fact: Gargoyles are not the full body statues on buildings, the Gargoyles are actually decorated waterspouts that direct rainwater off of the building to protect it from damage! But she does have influence from both Gargoyles and Grotesques!)
-Grimora’s inscryption tool being a quill really pushed me into wanting to give her raven-like traits as well! So she has Raven wings on her lower back and, not pictured, but her legs are supposed to be birdlike as well!
-The Death deck consists of various horror monsters like The Headless Horseman, Zombies, And various skeletons, ghosts and ghouls, so I wanted Grimora to reflect a bunch of different classic halloween monsters! Hence her vampire fangs and the sleeves of her shirt resembling mummy wraps if you squint.
-I also wanted her clothes to look a little damaged and torn, as if they were previously worn by a corpse.
