i was made fun of in 7th grade because I used the words "alas", "whilst" "unto" "weary" and "resolute" in an essay about psychological issues that are commonly misunderstood

i genuinely Did Not Know those words were mostly considered "old" or "unused" -- this is probably from me growing up reading pretty advanced texts for my age

with the obvious exception of "resolute" and maybe "weary", all those words are something I've found useful in my life and, despite their dated use, really feel lovely to speak. y'all ever said "but alas, they simply could not"??? IT FEELS NICE

"alas" is a truly S tier english word. fantastic mouthfeel, makes me sound like a world-weary wizard, looks cool when written out. good job to whoever created this word.

#some 'old' words make me happy #growing up reading detailed texts really helped me delevop a great vocuabulary #but ALAS #I can neither spell without autocorrect/spell check #nor can I fucking Read without glasses LMAO
