The Detriment of a Pro-Hero Society

Also known as: Kids are kind of being brainwashed into being heroes, let’s look into that.

Dedicated to @deafmic for getting me back into this bullshit and inspiring me to finish something I had started noting out about two years ago. By now, I’m sure much of this has been said over time by various people, and it makes me happy to know that there are others out there who like to look deep into the background culture and settings of their favorite manga!

I apologize in advance if you notice an idea of yours here; I haven’t been active in the fandom in two-ish-years, so I may be restating some things you guys already have. I consider this rambling analysis to be free to use and abuse by anyone, no credit necessary! I only get a little bit of time on the weekends to really be on my PC, so if you send me an ask or reply to this, it may take me some time to reply back!

Anywho, onto this mess I’ve made. It’s not very tidy and is more a collection of thoughts than a properly detailed analysis, but I ain’t got all day. Again, this is messy but I don’t really have the energy to make it nice and neat.

Random Slight Redesigns for BNHA Kids’ Costumes

im gonna ignore the ones that have glaring issues cause pleeeenty of people have made amazing art fixing those problems, and am instead gonna point out some smaller stuff with less problematic costumes that i think could use fixing

ojiro - okay, ojiros costume is very… well, normal, but while it could definitely use some more creative factors, im gonna focus on the stuff limiting his ability. first of all, as someone who used to wear a winter coat with a very furry hood, that much fur on one shoulder is just going to give you a blindspot thats easy for opponents to figure out and use. its a fun, unique part of his design, but overall a hindrance. secondly, his tail definitely needs some way of protection. hes going to very easily mess up his tail, with lots of cuts and bruises. he even started slamming it against the ground as a speed boost, hes really gonna need some way to protect it shouji - shoujis costume is overall very good, but as we see in canon, he can grow a lot of extra limbs that would be super helpful in combat. i think having some sort of mirio-type situation, where his quirk is extended into his suit, allowing him to manipulate the different parts of his costume into limbs as well. it would definitely be a fun surprise to pull on unexpected villain, and would really showcase his ability as a very flexible hero through different situations iida - probably one of the best costume designs for the kids (not including fan redesigns), but a lot of his costume is merely aesthetics, when you go beyond just his legs. his wiki page says his costume is designed to be as aerodynamic as possible but like….. heres the thing. whats with the things on his back. they are hugely hampering his ability to go as fast as possible. the obvious solution is to remove them, but there is also the probability that they could instead use special tubing through his suit to link to his engines, allowing for extra speed from higher on his body? as well, a good technical advantage would be to give him some sort of UI inside the suit, or perhaps even a gauge on his arm, that tells him his current speed. this would absolutely help him with an idea of how fast he is going in comparison with how fast he needs to go

BNHA F/F Fic Rec 

Take My Revolution by @tamizhnadu - TsuChako - T - One of if not the best tsuchako fics I’ve read. What struck me (and my friends who’ve read this, too)  so deeply was the amount of thoughts, development and depth put into the characters which you so rarely see in femslash. I was absolutely blown away. There’s swords, there’s lesbians, it’s writen well and in character. What more could you possibly want?

got the girls on my mind (all the time) by @yuurikkatsuki - TsuChako (and others) - G - Pretty much a 3 + 1 of times Uraraka has fallen in love with Yaoyorozu, Jirou, Ashido and Tsuyu respectively. The last one is requited but none are angsty. Really lovely imagery during the gay descriptions and nice appreciation of the girls. 

Obliviously in Love by @redriot - MinaMomo - G - The fic that made me ship minamomo! Pining Momo as they get together and lovely, oblivious Mina. The detail added which expands their characters is really nice and fits with what we know from canon. Chaotic bakusquad in the background.

the sun in my eyes by @todoroukis​ - MomoJirou - G - A cute childhood friends au where their best friendship comes first and romance naturally follows. Seriously pining Momo.

Perks by Melie - MomoKendou - T - 11 short sweet scenes which show different aspects and developments in their relationship. A really nice read.

a lucky lie-in by @tivruskis - TsuChako - G - Some really lovely domestic fluff. A snapshot of peace among the strain of being pro-heroes.

i can see you in the dark by @adreamingsongbird - MomoJirou - G - Some hurt/comfort after the effects of the USJ attack but also just general fluff and hanging out. Jirou is really gay for Momo. They’re not actually together yet in this one, just pining.

My Hero Academia World Headcanons

- The 20% quirkless stat represents the total living population.  Izuku’s generation is only 4-5% quirkless.

- With the rise of quirks came a renaissance in practical effects for films and tv shows.  Studios sometimes have entire departments dedicated to finding people whose quick can generate a specific effect.

- There are a bunch or quirk-specific sports: telekinetic ball games, flight races, beam matches, etc.  The most popular is power dance/show quirks: a choreographed routine set to music in tandem with a quirk.  A lot of hero school dropouts find fame there.

- Since most people aren’t allowed to use their quirks on a day to day basic, special gyms exist where people can practice and/or blow off steam.  Some are more general open areas resistant to most forms of damage, while others cater to specific quirks.

- Regular criminals and villains have an official destination.  Anyone who breaks the law is a criminal, but if they use their quirk to do it they’re classified as a villain.  The terms are used interchangeably in casual speech however.

- Behind closed doors, quirk marriage isn’t as frowned upon in some parts of the hero community as it probably should be.

- Hero laws vary from country to country, so most can’t do work outside the borders of their own countries.  The process by which one acquired permission to work in more than one country also varies.  Some have application processes that anyone can sign up for, others are granted by government committee.  Some counties have agreements for a lincense to be viable across their borders.  All Might once had permission to work in over 100 countries.

- American and Canadian Hero courses don’t start proper until college with a few exceptions, but they’re some of the best in the world.  Literature classes about comics are required.

- Unicorns exist.  Some guy found a horse with a horn quirk and bred it.  Only the richest of the rich can own them but they exist.

- In addition to specialty housing that exists in most major population centers, there are several planned communities for people with specific quirks scattered around the world.  There’s a city of giants in the American desert.  Multiple communes of tiny/shrinking people in rural areas.  Nocturnal towns where business hours are reversed.  Some millionaire probably bought a bunch of wilderness where people with animal quirks can pay to go buck wild.

like, remember the license exam arc when they were marked down points for how they dealt with the people who were pretending to be injured civilians? that was probably some really basic level stuff that could have been easily taught
