laurelprettybird:
Laurel felt Thea hesitating, and it killed her a little more inside. She dropped the pillow back on the bed and wordlessly slipped under the covers. She was nowhere near tired now, hyper-aware of Thea laying next to her as she was. After a few silent minutes, she spoke but kept her eyes on the ceiling. “Do you want me to go back to Gotham?” She asked, finding her voice heavy. “I understand if it’s too hard. I can’t stand you looking at me like I’m a snake about to strike. It’s too hard.”
Thea lay under the covers, her hands on her stomach, mechanical on top of flesh. There might as well have been a canyon between them, there was so much space. She sucked in a deep breath and let it out slowly, shakily. Her eyes stayed trained on the ceiling. This entire situation was too difficult. She didn’t trust Laurel, but the idea of her leaving again made her angry and depressed. “I don’t want you to leave.”

What's the cutest thing that Quentin does?
He likes being bounced and kind of... danced around the room. He gets so excited when I hold him and we “dance.” His giggles are just the best noise.
Tumblr media
Really... any time he’s not crying or freaking out about something he’s being adorable.

laurelprettybird:
Laurel eyed the room before looking at the bed for a moment. She was still annoyed, but it wasn’t like she could mention it. Not when she didn’t even know if Thea still loved her. She let Thea get Quentin ready for bed while she got her own clothes off with some difficulty until she was just in her underwear and a bra. The scars that greeted her in the mirror made her bite her lip. The one down her arm from her fight to get the Lotus for Thea and the webbed scar on her chest from Damian’s cattle prod were the most prominent. She tore her eyes away from her reflection and decided not to struggle one-armed into pajamas. Turning back to the bed, she hesitated before grabbing a pillow off of it. “I’ll sleep on the floor,” she muttered. “Can’t be worse than the cot in that cell.”
Thea eyed Laurel as she sat on the edge of the bed. “You don’t have to sleep on the floor,” she finally said. Something inside of her felt sick at the fact she was hesitating about simply sleeping near Laurel; the woman she loved and planned the spend the rest of her life with. But did she even feel the same way anymore? So much had happened it was all so complicated. Thea sighed, “I’m serious, there’s plenty of space.”

Laurel watched Quentin with the cheeto and felt her heart sink a little. She had so much to learn about him, and it was her fault she hadn’t been there. if she hadn’t been so reckless… she turned to face forward and let her head drop back against the head rest. “Oh… alright then.” She didn’t want to say it, but Thea had been making every decision since they left, and she found it hard to stay quiet at times. Still, she didn’t want to start a fight and make Thea angry at her. That was the opposite of what she wanted from this trip. So instead, she opened her Skittles with her good hand and her teeth and stayed quiet.
Thea stayed quiet while she drove them to the resort. They were met outside by the staff, valet and bellhop. It took them no time at all to get their car unpacked and up to their room. “Time to get you ready for bed, little mister,” she said as Quentin yawned in her face. She gave a side glance to the queen sized bed which she had thought was a good idea at the time, but part of her was questioning the intelligence of that decision.

laurelprettybird:
Laurel stood in front of the snacks, just staring at them all. She was enjoying stretching her legs, but she also had no idea what to get Quentin. He was nearly eleven months old, and she had no idea what he liked. She would rather implode than have to ask Thea. She was his mother, for Christ’s sake. She should know. With a sigh, she grabbed a bag of cheetos and hoped that would suffice. After paying, she looked out at the car and let out yet another sigh. It wasn’t like she would shake Thea’s shoulders and scream love me again, damn it. Of course that would have been easier. The last twelve hours had been awkward, to say the least. Laurel didn’t know how to talk to her anymore. She finally got into the car and handed the plastic bag to Thea. “We should find a place to stay. You can’t go on driving to the end of the Earth without sleep.”
Thea took the bag, scrunching her nose at it a little. It would do for snacks for now. “Oh uh I just made reservations for us at a resort in Lake Tahoe,” she said, sliding her phone away. She waited for Laurel to get Q into the back and then gave him a couple of chips. He stared at them for a moment because she didn’t usually give him junk food. With a worry of being a bad mother and a health food nut of a brother breathing down her neck, he usually ate pretty well. “We’ll get to the resort soon... and my sleepy little man can get some shut eye,” she made a face at him, making him giggle before getting in the driver’s seat again.

Vacation ||-/Speedy Canary
Thea drove her family south, about twelve hours or so, and found herself in California. It wasn’t as far away as they could get from Starling, but it was a start. A good start if anyone asked her. On a stop for gas and snacks, she fiddled around on her phone, looking for some place to stay. “Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel,” she said aloud as she flicked through the pictures. It wasn’t exactly winter or time to ski, but there was plenty of other stuff to do. And fuck they were in California there was plenty for them to discover. Without waiting for Laurel to come back, she called the place and made quick reservations. Within minutes she had a room, one bed and a baby crib, ready and waiting for them.

laurelprettybird:
Laurel placed her hand against her cheek as Thea walked away to get Quentin. After a moment, when she head his cries soften, she pushed herself up and went to pack. Her clothes were still in the closet, and she wondered if Thea had ever been planning on getting rid of them, but didn’t want to ask. As she packed, she let herself finally hope that things would be alright. It took her a little longer than usual to pack, since she only had one arm, but soon she was pulling her suitcase into the living room with a small smile. “Where are we going?” She asked, stepping closer to run her finger over Quentin’s cheek and making him babble at her.
Thea smiled when Quentin started to babble. She was just glad that their son still knew who Laurel was. She didn’t know what they would do if he was afraid of her or something. “I’m not sure yet, all I know is that I want to get the hell away from here,” she adjusted Quentin on her hip. “Maybe we should just drive... and drive until we find someplace,” she shook her head. Going out into the world with a child and no plan was crazy, but at the same time it almost made sense for them.

laurelprettybird:
Laurel’s face went from sadness to slight confusion. They were leaving? She chewed on her lip as Thea continued. “That sounds… perfect.” She said, finally relaxing. All of the worry that she had about their relationship started to melt away. Thea wanted to leave with her, which obviously meant there was still a relationship to salvage. It wasn’t going to be the same, and it was going to take time to get back a semblance of what they had before, but Laurel was willing to wait to get there. She stepped forward and sat on the couch, placing her hand on Thea’s thigh. “Wherever you want to go, count me in.” She smiled slightly. “I’m not leaving again unless you tell me to.”
Thea was glad that Laurel was willing to come with her. She hadn’t had too much doubt to begin with, but still. She sucked in a deep breath and looked into her eyes, “Okay,” she smiled, “Good,” she leaned in and kissed her cheek, though she thought very briefly about kissing her lips. She just wasn’t there yet. The sound of Q’s crying pulled her away from Laurel. She set her coffee down and immediately went for the nursery.

laurelprettybird:
Laurel watched Thea go and sat down heavily. She didn’t know what she had really been expecting after proving that she was herself again. Had she thought Thea would throw herself back in her arms? Obviously not, but she sort of hoped so. The team departed with her, and Laurel was left looking at an unconscious John in the cell. She knew it would take time for the effects of the pills to wear off, so she had no intention of speaking to John during the night. Instead, she half-limped to the showers and took her time washing off the entire ordeal. By the time she was dressed and her hair was styled like she used to do it, albeit still jet black, she felt better. There was really nothing else to do but try to sleep, and she gave one last glance to John before curling up in a cot.
The next morning, she woke up before sunrise, stretching and immediately wincing when it pulled at her stitches. “Laurel,” John said, “let me out.” Laurel looked over to where he was standing at the glass. “Not happening.” She was about to tell him to sit down and be quiet when Nyssa emerged from the elevator. “Laurel,” she inclined her head once. “You should go home.” She hesitated a moment. “You’re not coming?” Nyssa shook her head once and looked to John. “You have proven that you are trustworthy.” Not waiting around for Nyssa to change her mind, Laurel grabbed her bag and the keys to one of the bikes before heading home. The only thing that bothered her about that word was that she didn’t know if it really was home anymore. She sighed as she let herself into the apartment but immediately stopped when she saw Thea with some bags. Her throat clenched up and she felt fear rise in her chest. “Thea…?” She croaked. “You’re leaving…” It wasn’t really a question, more a deflated statement.
Thea didn’t sleep much. She spent more time packing up as much things as she could, while trying to stay quiet, so Quentin would stay asleep through the night. She was done with this vigilante life. Done with fighting every night, done with losing Laurel, and spending so much of her time worried that something was going to happen to one of them. She was twenty-four for fuck’s sake and she had literally died once already. Nearly lost her life and the lives of the ones around her a million times over. Not to mention.... she wasn’t feeling like herself anymore. It would have been so easy to kill Ruve. All she wanted to do was bash her skull in, but that wasn’t her. That wasn’t Thea Queen. She truly didn’t know who she was anymore and it was time to take a step back. Nyssa caught her packing, but didn’t stop her. Instead, the older woman promised to spread the news, as soon as she and Laurel were gone. If Laurel wanted to go with her that is.
Thea sat on the couch, waiting for Quentin to wake up. Coffee in one hand and the other resting gently on her knee. Her eyes moved up when Laurel came through the door. “We are leaving,” she said, “If you want to come with me.” Thea didn’t give much time for pause, “I need a break.... to step back from all of this and I want you to come with me. You, Quentin, and me.... just the three of us somewhere quiet.”

laurelprettybird:
“I’ve had worse,” Laurel said, wiping her chin and shifting uncomfortably in the van. Now that it was over, she wondered what the hell they were going to do now. Oliver decided stitches could wait until they dumped Ruve at Argus, and by the time they got back to the foundry, she was a little light headed. There were so many things she wanted to say, but she had no idea how to actually say them. John was placed in the same cell she had been in while Felicity stitched up her side. When Birds of Prey departed, Laurel looked to Thea and chewed on her lip. “Maybe I should stay here with John tonight.”
Thea nodded, “If you want to.” There were so many things running through her head and she didn’t even know where to start with picking them all apart and dealing with them. Sucking in a deep breath, she decided first and foremost, she needed to go home and see her son. “I’ll see you in the morning, okay?” she pulled away from Laurel without a hug or a kiss or even a last glance.

laurelprettybird:
Laurel hurried behind Oliver and Nyssa, who were both carrying John between them, as they hurried to get out of the building. “Can you re-route the bomb?” Laurel asked as she stumbled and caught herself on the wall. “I can… but, God… There’s enough time to change the route to another city. A much smaller city, but-” Laurel sighed. “But the people in that city are going to die,” she closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. The building shook and reminded her to keep moving. She pushed herself away from the wall and moved as fast as she could with the pain in her side. “Felicity, you can’t let that bomb reach DC,” Oliver said. “Do what you have to do.” Laurel made it out last, nearly collapsing in Vixen’s arms. “I knew you weren’t going to go all Black Siren on us,” Barbara said as she disarmed the explosive in Laurel’s neck. “I’ll thank you for not killing me later,” Laurel grumbled, tasting blood on her tongue as she was laid in the van. She moved her eyes to Thea’s and smiled weakly. “You’re not hurt, are you?”
“No,” she said, “I’m not hurt.” Not physically. She glanced towards Oliver who had Ruve now. She had wanted to kill her so badly. Truly wanted to end her life. Her chest ached. Who the hell was she anymore? Whoever she was she wasn’t Thea Queen. No, more like Thea Merlyn. She swallowed bile that had creeped it’s way up her throat. “We need to get home,” she said quietly, forcing her gaze away from Ruve and her brother. “After you get stitched up... of course. Are you okay?”
