PRODcast 186′s Old School Player of the Week: Ernie Camacho
Ernie kinda pitched for 10 years in the bigs, with the A’s, Pirates, Indians, Astros, Giants and Cardinals from 1980 to 1990. He only threw 262 innings in his career, 100 of them in 1984 when he was the “closer” on a shitty Indians team that finished in last place in the AL East.
He finished his career 10-20 with a 4.21 ERA, 1.508 WHIP, 45 saves, and 2.5 WAR.
re: that Brewers pic -- He was in camp with the Brewers in 1983, started the season at AAA Vancouver, got released, pick up by the Tribe, and spent his next four years in Cleveland. That sansabelt abuse is TROUBLING.
Since his retirement he’s given back and worked at schools in Salinas, and done work in the fight against Alzheimer’s, and set up foundations for youth education and baseball leagues.
We tip our cap to Fred Armisen’s alter ego.

PRODcast 185′s Old School Player of the Week: SALOME BAROJAS
He pitched five seasons in the bigs with the White Sox, Mariners, and Phillies and was … fine. He was worth just over a win a season, had a career ERA a hair below 4, a FIPof 4.38, and averaged 4.1 K/9 and 4.1 BB/9. While he was an extremely whatever spot starter, closer, and middle reliever he was a magnificent looking human – twice-baked, sliver teeth, hair that looks like he drove to the park with his face sticking out the car window, a sheen that falls somewhere between glazed and downright damp. He’s the total package, and there was even a mustache era (probably team-mandated) for Mr. Barojas.
According to a NYT article, Salome Barojas was one of Bob Sheppard’s favorite names to say.

PRODcast 175′s Old School Player of the Week: Andy Etchebarren
The Facts: Played 15 years as a catcher for the Orioles, Angels, and Brewers. Career WAR of 10.8, OPS+ of 88, was an All-Star twice in the only two seasons he was a regular, fell off a cliff after his age 25 season, only played in 100+ games once in the following 11 seasons, somehow had the pull to demand a trade to California (or he’d retire), moved on and had a lengthy career as a minor league manager.
Looks Like: He went for seconds, thirds, and fourths when they passed out eyebrows. He has a horizontal sideburn. He has three mustaches. Puts Anthony Davis’ brow to shame.
Where Is He Now?: Retired from baseball in 2012. Dead now. Passed away in October of last year. RIP to the “OG Brow”

PRODcast 172′s Old School Player of the Week: Jesse Jefferson
Jesse Harrison Jefferson spent nine seasons in the bigs as a pitcher with the Orioles, White Sox, Jays, Pirates, and Angels. In those nine seasons, he managed to be worth half a win, rack up a 39-81 record, a 4.81 era, just two fewer walks than strikeouts (520/522), and a shitload of slightly off baseball card photos. The lanky right-hander was not only a card carrying member of the Windbreaker As An Undershirt club, but he was also a purveyor of Elite DadHat, a member of CreepStache Nation, and a dead ringer for Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy.

PRODcast 171′s Old School Player of the Week: Skip Jutze
Skip Jutze (Jut-ZEE) was an absolute pile of shit of a catcher who played in parts of six seasons with the Cardinals, Astros, and Mariners. In 708 PAs over those six seasons, Jutze managed to post a WAR of -3.7, an OPS+ of 45, and make 19 errors behind the dish. He was so awful, I can barely believe he existed, and then there’s this (from Wikipedia) …
“On May 17th, 1977, in the Kingdome Skip hit a grandslam which was his first homerun in the big leagues and the Seattle Mariners first Grand Slam. Skip later disclosed that he had other help than human agency. Skip on the advice of a cafeteria cashier who's constant humming and whistling impressed him, had begun taking B-Complex vitamins as she advised. He described it; "I've always been relaxed behind the plate. But at bat, I suffered from tension, tried too hard. Ever Since I've taken those vitamins, though, I'm relaxed at the plate, too. My hitting has improved.".[2]
That’s it. That’s the end of his wiki page. Skip is from Bayside, NY and looks like it.
Skip is currently a part of the MLBPA Alumni Association’s Youth Baseball Clinics after coaching at Regis University (which I’m not sure is real either.)

PRODcast 170′s Old School Player of the Week: THAD BOSLEY
Thaddis Bosley spent 14 seasons with seven different teams (including the Angels twice) as a replacement-level outfielder and pinch-hitter. During his career with the Halos, White Sox, Brewers, Mariners, Cubs, Royals, and Rangers, Bosley never had more than 220 ABs in a season, never hit more than seven dingers, or 27 RBI, was voted the best pinch hitter in baseball in 1985 (by someone?), and had a career OPS+ of 89. We’re not sure the Thad Bosley type exists anymore – an extremely average player who just rides the pine for a decade and a half, but somehow carves out a spot as “Guy Who Should Grab A Bat In The 6th Inning” … and keeps it. At his peak, Bosley had a 70-grade fro and accompanying DadHat, 70-grade death stare, and a 50 stache.
After his playing career ended, Bosley had a couple coaching stints in the bigs with the A’s as a bench coach in the early 2000s, and as a hitting coach for the Rangers in 2010. Wikipedia also mentions that Bosley was briefly in a funk band called Ballplayers with Lenny Randle.

PRODcast 169′s Old School Player of the Week: Moose Haas
Bryan Edmund “Moose” Haas was a 6-foot, 180 lb, mustachioed, and helmet-haired pitcher who played for the Brewers and A’s from 1976 to 1987. He was named Moose at birth by his father despite weighing a totally average 7 lbs.
“I guess to my father it looked like I was going to be big. It didn’t work out.”
Haas was a middling replacement-level starter throughout his career, logging 100 wins, posting a career ERA+ of 98, and peaked in 1980 when he went 16-15 with a 3.10 ERA and 252 IP. Moose’held the Brewers single-game K record (14) for 26 years, and won a World Series with the Brew Crew in 1982. Aside from that, he was just kind of a perfectly average guy in almost every way, which is exactly why we’re featuring him in this very post.

PRODcast 168′s Old School Player of the Week: Sid Monge
Isidro Pedroza Monge was a slightly better than replacement-level, multi-purpose, left-handed pitcher who bounced around the bigs between 1975 and 1984. Sid pitched for the Angels, Indians, Padres, Phillies, and Tigers, won 49 games, lost 40, saved 56, finished his career with a 108 ERA+, was an All-Star in 1979, and gave up Tony Gwynn’s first big league hit in ‘82. But we didn’t pick him as our OSPOTW because of any of that. We picked him because he looks like the long lost sixth member of At The Drive-In with his 60-grade fro and DadHat, and because his name “Monge” looks like it could be pronounced MUNj or MONj, but it’s actually pronounced MON-jee (which is a little disappointing).
After his 10-year big league career, Monge was named to the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame, and went on to be a minor league pitching coach for a handful of teams. He is currently the pitching coach for the Sultanes de Monterrey.
