Edmund "Bunny" Corcoran
"It was this unreality of character, this cartoonishness if you will, which was the secret of his appeal and what finally made his death so sad."

Pensiero Stupendo by Patty Pravo
since nobody talked about it except italian fans: just before the sauna scene, during the storm, a song about a throuple is playing!
and this is so from art's pov and fitting the ending so well. the interpretations of the song are also very interesting. i'll never stop thanking luca for all of this.

as a national winning athlete, I am fucking dying from the perfect representation of athleticism in Challengers (2024). no one is talking about this because there are more important stuff going on there, but Yeah. It is EXACTLY like that sometimes. You go insane with focused determination to be the best, to win, and sometimes you feel you're naturally talented, and sometimes you feel like nothing at all.
the movie really shows you athletes in different parts of our lives, and makes you able to relate to all three stages. i relate to patrick in him being a natural, and yet I relate to him in being misguided and not knowing what he could actually do with his talent. I relate to Art when i feel second-best in my sport, and how yet I still get glory thrust in my hands. I relate so fucking much to tashi, because yes the game is sometimes a relationship more important to me than any other in my life, because i am haunted by my injuries just like she is, and because of how afraid i'd have to one day lose it because of the recovery. and let me tell you? that positively breaks your fucking spirit if you're an athlete.
it's so uncommon to find proper representation for this, but god this movie went places.

Nobody has to win a tennis match. There’s just two people who really want to.

It’s beautiful and humbling and incredible that Izuku still wants Katsuki after all the bullshit, but it is also a form of poetic cruelty that, after all his efforts to thwart it, Katsuki also wants Izuku after all the bullshit. Like Izuku looks like a model victim in the situation, and in a lot of ways he is, but he has in fact inadvertently worn Katsuki down for almost the entirety of their lives to the point that it feels pretty suspect to believe that Katsuki could accept anybody else on the same intimate level as Izuku. Izuku chose to admire and follow Katsuki pretty much every day despite it all and Katsuki chose to tell him to go the fuck away pretty much every day and only now is it even remotely clear to Katsuki that in this key struggle, Izuku has won out. Like Katsuki’s lost this one big time and he doesn’t even know it yet
Like I don’t give a shit if you ship it romantically but there’s undeniably an Izuku-shaped hole in Katsuki’s heart and soul formed by and because of the slow erosion of their relationship and nobody else can fill it. They are not “soulmates” or “twin stars” because they were born to be together - they, and the reality of their environments and circumstances, beat the shit out of each other emotionally and physically until they were formed to mirror and fit into one another like puzzle pieces because it was the only possible shape they could take. It’s tragic. It’s lovely. It’s hilarious. It is schadenfreude at its finest. It is the epitome of a crazy, stupid, borderline unbelievable yet emotionally visceral love conquers all story and it’s about snot-nosed teenaged fanboys
