The Hermit

The Hermit: Write about a time your character did some soul searching. What did they find?

The name Zeddicus used to mean nothing; it was a simple name.

There were no ties to the criminal world, there was no wealth, and there was no empire. Rielen’s father was a blacksmith and his mother? She worked pushing papers and filling out reports for more important people. He was meant to take over his father’s craft and nothing more; a simple life. However, something inside the young boy wanted more. He wanted to make his mark on the world and, at first, it was an innocent thought. There was no darkness to it but hang out with the wrong crowd and things change.

During his teens, he fell into pushing drugs for a bigger guy. He made his first kill around this time to get someone off his friend. Ri made his way through the “ranks” of the gang rather quickly and it was here he did some soul searching, was this something he wanted and did he want to keep following orders?

It didn’t take long for him to figure out what he was going to do, the decision was also one he couldn’t turn back on when he started it. However, once the thought was in his mind, it refused to leave. It sat there festering and he obsessed over it. He started to plan, to take those loyal to him and be sure they would remain that way after the deed was done. He was going to kill his boss and take over the crime ring and after? He planned to make his name known in the Black Market. No more would the name Zeddicus be nothing; he belonged in lavish parties, he belonged in the records just as much as the ones his mother worked for, and he belonged in history.

Rielen made just that happen and after 600 years filled with bloodshed and war, there’s not a soul within his ranks or family that would dare challenge him.

The Lovers on Reverse

The Lovers in Reverse:  When has your character experienced heartbreak?

There’s been several times in his life that he has experienced heartbreak, one of them, even recent. Such a thing might surprise most that know Rielen considering he’s extremely cruel to even his children, but there’s a reason he is the way he is. The first time he felt such deep sorrow was when his third child, Lynn, was taken from him at such a young age. The second came in a quick swoop at the hands of his enemies once again, this time they took his wife and eldest son Drais.

Lastly, was making the decision to release Aevi and give her a new life away from the debt her husband owed. It was probably the most selfless act he made and it hurt like hell to do it but he knows she’s better off.

“I’m really glad you didn’t choose some other profession in your life. Something that required some semblance of stealth or some such.” Camsyn glanced up from the book resting on his table. As he spoke, Jesariel quite literally tripped over the threshold and through the door into his cabin. Her cheeks flushed a deep red and he did little more than raise an eyebrow.

“Shut up.” Was all that she managed as she slammed the door shut behind her and headed for his table.

“What brings you to my shi-” She cut him off as she slammed a crumpled looking bit of parchment and a ring down into the center of his book. He picked up the ring first, recognizing it instantly, followed by the parchment after trying to smooth it out some. “What’s this?”

“It was found on one of Cerothyn’s ships. Light only knows how it got out there, but they finally passed it along to him, and he passed it on to me.”
