Also now I'm curious about what "donkey basketball" is.
It is basketball played while riding on donkeys. So kinda like a cross between basketball and polo but the players are riding donkeys instead of horses. Also it was played on an actual school basketball gym, so it really wasn't a good idea since there wasn't a lot of room for the animals. I imagine this is why I don't see anybody else doing this. But it IS a thing that actually happened that I saw when I was like kindergarten years old.

The reason they say to turn the sound on, is because the text conversation is presented in song. Not as a duet or anything, more like it's the lyrics to a chant, or I don't know what the terminology for it would be. Without the audio, there's the melodrama of the text conversation, which is entertaining enough but not really worth spending three minutes on when you also have access to say cat videos; WITH the audio, it's elevated to (ridiculous and awesome) art.
(SOUND IS CRUCIAL) this video is has murdered me dead the music the editing the way information is slowly revealed about the two of them the plot twist the breaking bad images. WILLIAM WILLIAM WILLIAM. all over minecraft parkour someone help im seizing

Sometimes I’m watching a video game analysis video and I’m having a good time maybe I’ll check out more of this person’s content later and then they randomly start going on a rant about pissy games journalists who think that all games should have an easy mode and how stupid easy video games are and I have to click off

FWIW, "mauve" was one of the coal-tar dyes developed in the mid-19th century that made eye-wateringly bright clothing fashionable for a few decades.
It was an eye-popping magenta purple
Tumblr media
HOWEVER, like most aniline dyes, it faded badly, to a washed-out blue-grey ...
...which was the color ignorant youngsters in the 1920s associated with “mauve”.
(This dress is labeled "mauve" as it is the color the above becomes after fading).
Tumblr media
They colored their vision of the past with washed-out pastels that were NOTHING like the eye-popping electric shades the mid-Victorians loved. This 1926 fashion history book by Paul di Giafferi paints a hugely distorted, I would say dishonest picture of the past.
Tumblr media
Ever since then this faded bluish lavender and not the original electric eye-watering hot pink-purple is the color associated with the word “mauve”.

Reblog with your favourite "there's only one other person I've talked to who even knows of this thing, and it's because I introduced them to it / they're the one who introduced me to it" media. (And preferably, include what type of thing it is, like book series or webcomic or video game etc.)
Maybe it's not as obscure as you thought; maybe it IS as obscure as you'd thought, but now there's other people potentially willing to give it a try.

the thing about gay bdsm dynamics is they will make explicit what is implicit in normative cisheterosexual dynamics and then those complicit in cisheterosexuality will act all scandalized about seeing themselves in the funhouse mirror

New episode! I thought this material was pretty interesting in that we get an (admittedly limited & biased) view of what sex work was like in Byzantium. There are more birds involved than you might expect.
-----
This week, we're delving into Empress Theodora's early life and rise to power as empress of the Byzantine era. From her breathtaking performances as a prostitute to her love-at-first-sight romance with Justinian as a young guard, we gather that Theodora was one hell of a woman, regardless of Prokopios' distaste for her.

I love it when things are both metaphors and extremely literal. Like on one hand you have the bit in Bluest Eye where Pecola chugs milk out of a Shirley Temple mug and it makes her sick. Like she's literally and figuratively trying to consume and internalize whiteness.
and on the other hand you have half of 80s sci Fi novels like "What if the tanks kept fighting even after the war was over. Its a metaphor for Vietnam but also wouldn't that be fucked up."

Everyone’s jumping straight to Summerween — but what about Hallowspring? Folk horror, haunted cottages, rustic cults, monster-infested forests, green witches gathering beneath the eclipse… every season deserves its spooky moment

How does one go about finding new music in a language they do not speak/don't speak well?
Related, does anyone that speaks Turkish or Bulgarian have any song recs? I have no clue how to find any, the only song I know is in Bulgarian, I am not sure about the name and I have no clue how to spell it even if I'm correct ;-;
