Bros…

So I reread this post and I realized that while I did make it mostly out of my shock, my reason for being upset isn’t “waaaaa we won’t see a K-pop guy for a year and a half”, but rather my concern for the future of TAN and them not getting what they deserve post-military solely bc they’re 1) a project group and 2) more under the radar. If the members will enlist one by one their reunion will take long, and that wouldn’t be an issue if K-pop labels weren’t incredibly fast-paced and thirsty for constant profit. Outside of idol/pop industries, longevity is appreciated whether you’re a big or small artist, and many musicians thrive while being well over a decade, decades even, into their career regardless of their popularity, but that’s simply not how it works in K-pop. If you don’t come from a big label, blow up as a rookie or gain an incredibly loyal fanbase, your career is at stake no matter how talented you are. Disbandment is an obvious route, and other options for companies are simply neglecting their artists or pathetically sending them to survival shows for promo. A thought that might come to mind is “we should make this group famous stat”, but I hate how that’s the only way. I hate how groups can’t stay more on the low without concerns for their future. This can be prevented without disbandment or “survival shows”, companies can invest more effort into creative and musical direction and for the promo of their artists. Notice how I’m not even talking money bc projects do not have to be overly expensive to be high quality, but we’ve seen how CEOs lie about being broke, so talking about a greed problem wouldn’t be a reach. I started off talking about TAN specifically but this goes for all smaller groups, ggs and bgs, and especially CIX and OnlyOneOf which are the two other underrated boy groups that are special to me. I’ve been witnessing the former getting mismanaged for long years, and the management of the latter is JUST getting slightly back on track. It’s kind of devastating to see, and as I mentioned for the thousandth time, it’s one of the biggest factors driving me away from K-pop. Talents like this are simply too good to go to waste, all bc of the lack of longevity and appreciation for art in the industry.

So 5:45 by TAN was written for Jooan who’s most likely enlisting next year, with 545 being the minimum number of days for military service… they’re currently barely 2 years into their career as TAN and I’m finding this out like 2 weeks tops after getting into the group. It’s time for me to wrap it up with K-pop for good.
