Okay, so, while Elle is wildly different than Maddie in genre, experiences, mannerisms, etc., it has occurred to me that I may have had more influences in creating Elle than I’d initially thought.

mermaids
taken from the 1986 patty dann book.
stop that and sit down.
would you like me to fix you some food?
you’re so full of baloney.
please talk to me.
have you been having nightmares again? you look tired.
i’ve been as bad as i can be.
you want me to tuck you in?
i don’t give a goddamn where you go.
oh, christ.
it will be all right, baby, don’t worry.
where on earth have you been?
nothing would make me happier.
you’re nobody special.
who needs them.
jesus christ, look at me, will you?
not yet, baby, we’ll go to the store later.
i worry. i really do.
you’re going to get in trouble.
makes me want to cry into my goddamn baseball glove.
well, i hate you, i really do.
you’re always welcome to come and talk if you have anything on your mind.
it’s time you got some normal shoes.
you should grow up to be free. do you understand me? free.
don’t forget these.
more hot chocolate?
there are four kinds of people in the world, just like the seasons.
religion weighs me down.
you’re going to get arrested.

❛ maddie… ❜ even now her name escapes him with surprise, breath stolen from his throat. ❛ no i just– ❜ wasn’t expecting to see her? feels an odd sense of relief knowing she’s ok? ❛ –how are you? ❜
Her mind is a clutter. ( Paralyzed. ) Cacophony of thoughts, questions, tumbling over one another. " Fine... " She finds her voice, seizes it tightly. A nervous bird trying to flee her throat once more. Reciprocity in a normal conversation should've egged her on to give the returning ' and you ? ', but she swallows it, hard. Stubborn in her resolve. " What are you doing here Scott ? "

meta ; Maddie & Scott
Maddie’s relationship with Scott was half genuine love and interest and half genetic programming. Her relationship with Scott felt like a fast-paced fairytale. She’d never felt so deeply loved by someone in her entire life and was too wrapped up in the bliss of it all that she’d managed to completely look past the fact that is wasn’t her, but the ghost of Jean, that Scott was loving. This is why her reaction to even the mention of Jean Grey is so visceral; she can't stand even the smallest puncture in her fantasy.
The biggest rift between them was the x-men. Family or no family, Scott was never going to be able to settle down and be a real father to Nathan and Madelyne struggled to accept this about him. She’d never been able to shake the insecurity that she would never be enough for him; he never willingly choose her over everything else.
Long since her return to Alaska, Madelyne has come to terms with her failed marriage but still harbors some animosity for her ex.

“ You LOST ? “ A hand perches at her hip, green hues leveling on her former spouse. “ ‘Missed your shot by about ten miles. “ Allegiance was a far cry from Summers’, but it was as good as home.
