Glasswinged butterflies are a South American species known for their transparent wings. They look fragile but can carry up to 40 times their own strength. The pink butterfly in the first picture is an Amazon variety that has a “blush” shade to its clear wings.

“He hardly dared to look at what was framed in the hole in the sheet. Maybe she was hideous … he looked, and saw a soft face that was not at all ugly, a cushioned setting for her glimmering, gemstone eyes, which were brown with flecks of gold: tiger’s eyes.”
painting of the ‘hole in the sheet’ scene from salman rushdie’s ‘midnight’s children’ that i couldn’t get out of my head!
here the protagonist’s grandfather, a doctor, finally sees the young woman he’s been treating for over three years through a sheet of fabric with a round hole cut into it. they instantly fall in love :”)
