Melanin this. Melanin that!

But when I was a young girl

the same black people with black skin,

Said Melanin was wack.

I wasn’t a Goddess or a Queen,

but I was a black bitch, a burnt biscuit

Whose entire family lived in a hut,

but most of all An African Booty Scratching Cunt.

I add the “cunt” simply thanking my mom

For contributing to my insecurities too.

Because of course young black American kids didn’t even use the word Instead, they treated me accordingly, like the big pussy of the school.

Tormenting me for my thick afro and my colorful headwraps.

Taunting me for the smell of cocoa and shea butter and fufu

Always referring to my skin color as a big blob of do-do.

Shit! Growing up as an African in America sucked. Head always down, mind always in a rut

This treatment was by far worse than what the American Blacks faced from the whites

Imagine being surrounded by people who look just like you but have no understanding of your plight.

Instead of showing love, they just want to fight! Constantly judging you for what you wear,

Or picking at your hair

Simply because they didn’t know about theirs

They didn’t know that under that relaxer,

There was someone staring back at them

Who was even blacker Than me.

Features as broad as day That their people came from the Motherland- Afrika.

Lips as wide as the I-95

Yet, ragging on me because I embraced my Afrikan heritage

Laughing at me but my dad is a surgeon, and my mom is a nurse
