The Hate You Give (THUG)
Tumblr media
I recently read this book, (yes it came out almost 3 years ago) and it's great. I've been trying to write a book review, but honestly, there's not much to say. A black teenage girl witnesses a white cop kill one of her best friends when he hadn't done anything, and that's just wrong. Being "scared" of someone just because of how they look and without any prior knowledge about them is ridiculous.
Why do people insist on making assumptions about others when they don't know a single thing about the other person? People have different skin colors just as they have different eye colors, hair colors, hobbies, preferences, etc but if a person has blue eyes, that's not a reason to discriminate.
This is a book, and when reading it I couldn't believe that things like this happened in real life such as what happened to George Floyd. What's worse is that these discriminations are coming from cops. We trust them to look after our homes but now there are families who hear the police siren and instead of safety, they feel fear. This also brings a bad reputation for the cops who are actually trying to help save lives, not the other way around.
Everyone should look past a person's skin color.
