I may not be worthy, but I’ve been blessed! Thank You God for this 20th year of my existence. I’d like to say that I really appreciate everything that everyone has given me in one way or another, but above all else, it’s all of you that I’ll always cherish. Are Journalists Lying to Us?
In news, if there is money and advertisement involved, it is when the reports can be considered deceptive and misleading. Imagine, an advertisement with the face of news? How shameless could these journalists be?
We should be aware that there are really blatant journalists who are willing to break the code of ethics for their advertorial. Accordingly, the term "advertorial" is the combined words for "advertisement" and "editorial”, and we are accentuating this for the reason that news is supposed to be objective—where there is no money involved—and newsworthy.
We should know that a journalist should be free of obligation to any interest other than the public’s right to know because there are media giants who broadcast insignificant activities that are not even newsworthy, e.g., gossips about screen personalities, splitting up of celebrities, and such that probably won’t benefit the viewers and readers.
One thing we must consider to know the news we are reading is a reliable source if there is fairness implied. It should be obliged to especially in investigative journalism. While it is public interest and a right to all of us to know things about serious crimes, political corruption, popular person in the government, in the private sector, and in the religious world, both good and bad accounts about the subject must be published by media executing fair journalism. There is then balance in reporting when there is transparency and accountability.

Philippine Pollution
Here in the Philippines, pollution has been a major issue. There are a lot of problems with air, especially in Manila, with hygiene practices and the lack of good sanitation. If we will think about it clearly, air, even water pollution can cause a major casualties in our country. It can affect the harvest of our labourers, number of health fishes and edible seafood products will decrease. Pollution can cause a huge health related risk in the Philippines.
According to research, one-sixth of all deaths in the Philippines and approximately 6,000 premature deaths a year are because of hygiene, water-borne diseases and poor sanitation conditions. Diarrhea is the most common water-borne disease, then intestinal worms, typhoid, and cholera. These diseases are very common because more than 25 million Filipinos do not have a basic access to sanitation and more than 13 million do not have proper water resources. Thanks to the water pollution the costs increases, which led to more than 6.7 billion in 2006.
Air pollution makes this even worse, and therefore it is another big issue. The most common diseases are chronic bronchitis (second leading causes of illness in the Philippines), pneumonia (seventh leading causes of illness in the Philippines) and cardiovascular diseases. This is not going away soon, the country has a lot of factors which increases this. Like the smoke the vehicles leave behind, but also something small like tobacco smoke. The people who clean the city, which are more than 18 million people, are the biggest victims of this air pollution.
As a Filipinos, we have responsibility towards this issue that our country was confronting. Let’s move and help even with our own little way. Just throwing our trash in its proper way will do. Let’s respect the nature in order for it to respect us too. We should be alarmed by this issue, for this issue might become the cause of extinction of the animals we eat, or worse, the extinction of humanity itself.

Tumblr media
Artists today are known for their unique styles and techniques on how they use different mediums. These help them establish a specific identity in the field and increase their market. This is achieved through practicing and making art frequently while following specific patterns, palettes, processes, and ways of presentation which is the flatlay. With the influence of social media, flatlaying has become a huge factor in gaining followers. It is not new to us that this helps one artist to sell his works on the internet.
Flatlaying is a style of photography which aims to tell a certain story or give the viewer suggestions by putting into the frame related objects in different shapes and forms. It helps give rhythm, harmony, and balance to an artwork. For example, you are more likely to appreciate looking at a painting in a frame hanged on a wall rather than looking at the painting itself plainly. In the same sense, flatlay showcases the strengths of the artwork with small details put in frame with it.
I started flatlaying last year and I honestly struggle with it more than the painting process itself. I find inspiration by looking at other established artists on the social media and try to put up a theme or a prompt inspired by these artists. As I go making art, I found myself flatlaying without depending on a prompt but rather making new ones everytime.
With flatlaying being part of the creative process, it is normal that we encounter instances where we can’t find anything to start with. I usually use either my workplace or just things that i find at home that i find related to my subject. There are really endless ways on how you would put it together. You just have to dig the creativity out of the juice box.

Action for Climate Change Empowerment
The Philippines, being a part of the United Nations, we are considered participants of the Sustainable Development Goals. For all we know, agriculture is one of our greatest strength. This is why the SDG, Action for Climate Empowerment caught my attention.
The term ACE was coined during the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It refers to Article 6 of the convention’s original text which aims to prioritize six major areas: education, training, public awareness, public participation, public access to information and international cooperation. Its importance is reflected in other international frameworks such as the Aarhus Convention and the Bali guidelines, both aiming to implement solutions to the problems posed by climate change.
Climate change pose issues such as deforestation, La Nina, El Nino, flood, forest fires, and even up to the endangerment of species. And if we just think of a country most affected by these issues, we don’t have to move farther, its our country!
The DepEd, knowing that K-12 was implemented not long ago, is doing a very good job helping support the action. Providing knowledge for the problems posed by climate change thru seminars, supporting school organizations for agricultural reforms like the UPLB NoGood, and including on the curriculum itself.
As for students, I observed that the gravity of the problems climate change pose is not quite emphasized. Not just to the students but also for the citizens, fines, penalties, and such is either not much implemented or taken for granted. These issues we disregard will not show its effects today but in the future.
For you, no matter who you are, a student, a netizen, a worker, a government official, or even just a random reader of this blog. Try asking yourself, even if its not about issues but on how ethical your actions would be. From that trash you found on the street or the corridors to the trash you are about to throw at these places. Is this still right? If not, does ignoring it seem to be the right thing to do. I’ll just leave it for you to answer.
