[ park sooyoung. twenty-three. cisfemale. she/her. | muse15a ] doin' time by lana del rey just came on the radio and it made me think of jinae yoon. they’ve been in sundance for seventeen years and they’re currently a blackjack dealer. if you’re looking for them, try by sun cafe, locals say they’re there a lot.
hey lil flippa! alskdf don’t ask lmao. anyways, this is my disgruntled sunshine, jinae, since i can never seem to handle more than one muse at a time, rip. a lil info about her can be found below!
jinae was originally born in spring valley, nevada to the kind of parents who totally would’ve been caught up in the college admissions scandal tbh. but only over jinae’s sister, not really over her. see, she’s never really held the illusion that she was the favorite child. how could she be? her sister was the golden girl; intelligent, agreeable and well-liked by everyone. and her parents wouldn’t have had to bribe anyone, as jinae’s sister had been happily accepted by multiple universities.
jinae, however...school had never been her strength. she found it hard to pay attention, and spent most of her time in school daydreaming about the things she’d have rather been doing. given this, she decided to skip college altogether. it wasn’t like the family needed her to go on to become some famous astrophysicist, or something. her parents owned one of the most popular hotel casinos on the vegas strip, and had never really been hurting for money. still, jinae’s lack of ambition didn’t sit well with them.
once she hit adulthood, they essentially gave her an ultimatum. either take a job at their casino and learn some responsibility, or be cut off financially. jinae wasn’t the kind of person who could do well without her family’s support at the time, so she didn’t see any other choice. she had to take the job.
it irritated her at first, as most things did. she’s a bit of jackie burkhardt mixed with helga pataki, so she can be a little...hot-headed if things aren’t going her way. but much to her parents chagrin, she actually grew to enjoy it after a bit. she was rather skilled at card games, as it was the one aspect of her parents’ business she’d had interest in before her employment there. she became a blackjack dealer, as it came easily enough for her. just wear a pretty cocktail dress and shoot a few flirty smiles at people so they’d play longer. it was the one science she knew by heart.
personality wise, she’s more of a taker than a giver. mostly because her sister had always gotten the biggest share of everything, so now that she’s out of that situation, she’s a bit selfish, wanting things to herself. she looks for acceptance in all the wrong places, usually in the bed of whoever catches her eye at the casino during her shift. she’s been all but rejected by her parents for a great deal of her life, so she relishes in being able to wrap people around her finger now.
the only real ray of hope in her life in 15b! they’re one of her only close friends, and always an encouragement no matter how crappy jinae might have been feeling about herself on any particular day. they bring the soft cinnamon roll right out of her, so much so that jinae has started to catch feelings. but of course, she’s absolutely certain they don’t feel that way, as they always seem to be with someone else.
i’m totally cool with m, f or nb muses taking this plot btw! aside from the lovely subplot, i’d also love to have a couple more friends for her, maybe someone she doesn’t get along with due to her occasional...abrasiveness, some people she’s hooked up with from the casino, if someone is looking to bring in a new muse, maybe her olga pataki-esque sister??
