Yayoi Kusama, "Infinity Mirrored Room—Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity" (2009)
Tumblr media
One in her series of mirrored infinity rooms, "Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity" creates the illusion of chochin floating down the river during the toro nagashi festival. The Smithsonian writes that for Kusama, "obliteration is a reflection on the experience of death and potential of the afterlife."

Artist’s catalogue and description available here
Lynn Manning was a martial artist, poet, and playwright who was blinded in his early 20s. A fantastic figure to explore if you haven’t already. He passed at the age of 60 in 2015.

‘A Moment to Rest’ drops as a print Thurs Nov 25th, 12PM (PT) on my store! This painting was for my exhibition, ‘Breathe.’ The red string that wraps around the figure is a reference to the Chinese legend, ‘the red thread of fate.’ The original legend is about the fated bond between soulmates, but for this piece I wanted to reinterpret it to a story about us being connected to our own individual fated stories by this unbreakable string. I loved this idea, that no matter how many times the thread gets tangled or how many times we trip over, we’re still on the same journey to that same end. In other words: even though shit happens along the way, things will work out the way they’re meant to be.
