Othercon's servers are only available for the weekend of the con + 1 week; so they're not year-round. There is an off-season server that's available all year, but it's only semi-public to avoid overwhelming the limited staff. An invite link can be given through DMs though!

Upcoming Othercon Application Update
Artist, Dealer, and Panelist applications will all open in May this year.
There will also be a new type of presentation available to panelists: movie streamers! This takes the pressure of streaming off of staff so they can focus on moderating the con. Panelists will now be responsible for this.

The form will be closed and no longer accepting entries on May 1st.

New window for staff applications
Volunteer staff positions will now be open April 15th-30th (no forms will be accepted May 1st). This time there will also be a new role for staff that are solely dedicated to recording panels and will do no moderation work. The regular moderation staff usually record panels already, but it is always a huge help to have other recordings in case someone is unavailable, a file gets corrupted, etc.
"Village Beacon" (Anniversary Zine) Announcement
The anniversary zine has gotten a slight rebrand to "Village Beacon", to avoid confusion about the zine being about Othercon. The title represents the alterhuman community as a whole, a way to find others with similar experiences in a vast world where you might've felt alone.
Village Beacon celebrates the community, camaraderie, and supporting others. This theme is intentionally broad, since these can manifest in different ways. More details will be available on a seperate post when submission forms open on May 1st.
This post is meant to be more of a quick update to the recent delays going on. All other platforms (Bluesky and mailing list) will get proper notifications on the dates mentioned above.

when is othercon? can people under 16 attend?
It's the 2nd weekend in August annually, so this year that'd be Aug 9th-11th. People under 16 are allowed to attend, since in compliance with Discord TOS you have to be at least 13

19 days later and we've reached our funding goal! Once that processes, the hosting will be paid ASAP to ensure the website stays available.
