People used to comment on fanfiction.
People used to comment on fanart.
People used to comment on OCs.
I hate "content" culture.
I hate "consuming content" and scrolling immediately to the next thing.
People used to be excited about the art that other people created.
People used to want to share that excitement with creators.
I hate this future.
#memo to self to say nice things about the next creative thing i read/reblog/buy#but i think part of the reason people stopped engaging this way is because it got risky to like things#it was already emotionally a risk to like#interact with another human#but now we have people determined to read what you said in bad faith#people who are going to judge you for interacting with something they like 'incorrectly'#people who are going to draw extreme conclusions about you based on what you like#etc.#and leaving a comment is not like paying a compliment aloud#it leaves a permanent record#so idk there's definitely a culture of consumption when it comes to art and that seems to me like the driving force behind this change#but i think this secondary reason exists as well#i wish i knew what to do to improve either circumstance. anyway sorry to go off about this on your vent post#i hope it's clear i feel your pain.

Sick of characters who are simply Cool or Badass or Horrifying or Edgy all the time. They need to be pathetic too. It elevates them. It’s like adding a bit of salt to a sweet dish to bring out the flavour. Tbh, I think a character can only be truly horrifying, badass, etc. WITH a lil bit of pathetic in 'em.
#true fact i actually only start to care about a cool/badass/horrifying character when i see their pathetic side#dgaf about axel until kh2 when he dies in vain#dgaf about dimitri until around rain scene#dgaf about sylvain until i saw how he could go to pieces in his supports#there needs to be that contrast#otherwise they're just a brittle shell with nothing underneath and idgaf

lol i hate today’s era of absolutely zero nuance takes. a friend didn’t behave exactly as you’d wanted them to? cut them off. a guy didn’t text you back instantly bc he has his own life? he’s just giving you breadcrumbs. doing something makes you uncomfortable? don’t do it anymore. someone isn’t instantly available for you? disinterest. just absolutist statements that often don’t apply to the multilayer situations of everyday life. like. stop. literally just stop it
