Another milestone that perhaps doesn't seem that important but I'm absolutely beside myself with pride,
Going from just random aimless scribbles and pen stabbing to intentionally trying to colour in an image or make a drawing.
This week he has also show a notable interest in pretend play, in particular being a dinosaur pirate in crocodile infested waters with a garden chair as a boat and a broom oar!
And "doctors baby" as he call himself. With an outlet board that he uses as a doctor bag, the cord is his stethoscope, good imagination kid!
He has been pretending for a while. But now he seems to have scenarios/rules/gives directions, and wants me or others to play roles as well. It's very cool!
Looking at our botched Santa photos has made me seriously considering doing photography as a side hustle myself, because if these people are getting paid to do this then I'm a fucking unseen talented
It's been a busy month and a bit, we've moved out of our little town house and into a regular house with a yard (the main reason for the move) so with that I'm learning how to garden, and trying to naturally involve my son in the process.
It's not without its hiccups, trying to find a balance with letting him do things and make his mistakes but terrified that every little thing is going to hurt him (It's the biggest challenge in motherhood I find actually. It's really hard to just let them find their own way when you know yourself you could help)
We're in full swing tantrum land now too as he's right at that age when any little thing can and will set him off, but we're getting good at redirecting, calming down, making reasonable compromises and keeping fair rules, so it's been a manageable challenge
My little boy astounding his grandparents over the last few weeks by his amazing ability to recognise numbers, say what they are and count in sequence has been a highlight honestly.
He's genuinely come such a long way in such a short time, not that long ago he wouldn't even say a word and now he's counting, singing, and getting three word sentences together, he's just had a massive burst of skills!
Yes, I am that mum making porridge and fruit smoothies for my kid for breakfast while I sneak handfuls of crispy m&ms and a coke, cos fuck healthy breakfast
My son turned 2 yesterday, can't believe how fast the tine has gone by!
But he woke up at 3am this morning saying "cake, cake, more!" Like no son we're not getting you cake on demand just because you went nuts on it yesterday.
This will no doubt be the first in a very long line of demands now that he's finding his voice
It's an interesting choice making all this kids merchandise with characters from franchises that were popular in the 90's when the kids wearing it have no fucking clue who these characters are.
Like sure they're appealing to the parents, but as a kid that would suck!
And the franchises that they have merch for in stores for is so limited. Genuinely, it's pokemon, bluey, various Disney, fortnite and minecraft. There's so many shows and that's all they get
You know, I was really worried about how much sending my son to private school was going to cost until I realised how much his daycare fee's are. It's still going to be cheaper each year than those, so winning I guess.
I'm a domestic cleaner and honestly it's been the best job I've had since I started working, it's been great work life balance, I don't get berated for needing to take time off when I or my family are sick, like the pay isn't great, but it's manageable, and having a home life really does make it worth the pay sacrifice.
It's kind of funny that it's not a well respected career path, but I'm happier in this job than any other so far.
As a parent watching your child go through their developmental milestones is both exhilarating and terrifying.
My son has thankfully been pretty quick to hit his gross and fine motor skills, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't give me a bit of a big head.
But language has been a bit more bumpy and hard to navigate.
In part because I can see and hear where his same aged peers are at, and also because some of the information you get as what to expect is a bit vague.
As it turns out when you're expecting your child to talk any noise they make with purpose counts as a word. Animal noises count as words and so do sound effects.
There's also this evolution of words.
My son did used to say mum-mum when referring to me, but after a while he stopped saying it entirely and I was very downhearted.
Until we realised one of his newer words "me" did not refer to himself, he's calling me, his "mummy" turned to "me". What a relief
And then other sounds that refer to concepts. He's got one "deedle-leedle-leedle" which at first meant fan, but he also uses for his bike so I'm under the assumption it means "things that spin"
We're still learning to understand one another, but we're getting there.
Listen we're definitely a family of big boned/dense bones.
Like I used to think it was just my perception about my own body, but with my son I can very clearly tell a difference in other kids his age.
He doesn't look particularly big, in fact he's noticeably physically smaller than his cousin (days apart in age) but when you pick these kids up his cousin is like picking up a bird, and my son nearly puts my back out!
