sirius is the king of denial
like ok ok besides the whole "lady dorothy is still coming back" stuff there's just the way he is so dismissive about magic/demons/the witch's heart which is goofy as fuck like
the woman you worship is a witch who performed magic and taught you to do magic which you continue to do and she also drew wards specifically to protect from demons which you also continue to do all the time and when you were ten years old you saw a huge fucking eyeball monster and there are multiple books in dorothy's room specifically about the witch's heart and how it's magical and there are demons wandering around the mansion and multiple magical spaces everywhere AND YOU THINK ALL THIS MAGIC/DEMON/WITCH'S HEART STUFF IS STUPID???

this is kind of funny to me because i'm remembering like
that one scene where ashe is going on about his family like "oh we are VERY happy together" and pretending to be normal and claire gets sad and drops the "my parents abandoned me," (it makes sense in context it's not like she said it out of nowhere) and she talks about the loneliness and jealousy of seeing other people with their families and then ashe very suddenly backtracks and goes "...well you know i miss my family too i haven't seen them in a while" and he is so obviously sympathizing with her
imagine this on a wider scale, like in a room with the rest of the cast he starts talking about how great his family is and how happy they are with each other and everyone else in the room collectively goes "lmao, my family is dead as fuck" and ashe is just like "well fuck"
this probably wouldn't happen, i don't think any of them are the type to open up about it especially in more casual conversation (other than claire) but it IS a funny thought

timeloop calculations
In a loop of 10,000 timelines where the minimum amount of time for one loop is 1 day and the maximum amount of time for one loop is 5 days, the absolute range of possible time Noel could have spent looping is 27 - 137 years. However, neither 27 nor 137 years is possible because the former assumes every loop is only 1 day and the latter assumes every loop is 5 days, both of which are untrue scenarios.
A more likely range is 55 - 110 years.
This puts the average amount of years at 82, which is also what I believe to be the safest estimate, and the one I usually go with.

i need everyone to know that in both dorothy's room and sirius's room there is a copy of witch's heart by kevin martinez which is claire's favorite version of the story. i also want you to know that if you interact with those portions as any other character besides claire they'll just call it "a witch's heart book" without specifying which version so you can only find out that detail when playing as claire.
dorothy feels obvious because she loved reading them stories so of course she'd have the ones they liked in her room but sirius keeping a copy of claire's favorite storybook in his room all this time just... my HEART...
this story also just so happens to be the story that in my opinion parallels sirius and dorothy. (maybe another reason they all liked the story.)

noel & dorothy parallels
circumstantially, noel & dorothy have a lot in common
took the witch's heart from a dead/dying person after realizing they could not be saved
person was dead/dying because of nicholas trying to get the witch's heart
took the heart to keep nicholas from getting it and making some nasty wish
took the witch's heart from claire's at the time caretaker
held onto the heart for a while after getting it until a situation arose that it could be used to protect claire
made a wish to protect claire
became the "monster" associated with the mansion (dorothy figuratively, by threatening everyone in her dying moments instead of defending herself from the murder accusations, noel literally by being an Actual Monster that scares people away)
despite this reputation, never actually intended to hurt anyone, just scare them
did this in order to protect sirius
[insert that "if i had a nickel for every time [x oddly specific situation] happens" meme here]
it's so interesting that noel basically, in a way, followed in dorothy's footsteps and did to her exactly what dorothy had done to fiona--and his motivations were basically the exact same as what dorothy's were: keep claire and sirius safe.
it's also so interesting, that, with all this considered, ashe would connect "the monster" as being one in the same as dorothy. i mean... ashe didn't have any of this information, so he was just throwing out theories he thought might be plausible, so it doesn't really mean much, but it's very interesting. the are both the mansion's "monster" with the same motives. so connecting the two as one in the same... kind of makes sense. even though sirius had been offended by the notion (and understandably so), it's actually... really interesting that noel ended up doing a lot of the same things that dorothy did. i just think about that a lot.

i think a lot about the fact that we know Noel could have gone to the mansion at any time (*at night) not only in the 6 days between his disappearance and the massacre but also in the 12 years after that and chose not to
like that actually drives me insane. he didn't need to disappear for 12 years. that is a tragedy that did not need to occur. things would have never gone back to "normal," but he could have come to see them at night, explained his situation, etc
but he didn't
before the massacre... i wonder if it was the guilt. of having caused claire to run away. or that maybe he felt they were better off without him. after the massacre... i imagine he didn't think sirius would want him around (as well as the burden of the guilt of what happened to dorothy), in the game he's under the impression that sirius doesn't like him. (maybe something like "I don't think I could face him" or "he wouldn't want me there anyway") and yet he still protected him/the mansion anyway. he obviously still cared about sirius deeply. or maybe i wonder if he perhaps thought he didn't belong among humans anymore. or if it would be too hard to try to explain anything. i think these were all factors.
an avoidable tragedy, and yet... (this sucks especially because him coming back would have been the best outcome for everyone, including himself. but he has to be stupid instead /aff)
there's also the fact i haven't seen anyone talk about (well, someone probably has, but i haven't seen it) that for this reason (noel not deciding to enter the mansion), he was probably not present in the first timeline (well, he was aware of what was going on, but probably not present--this is something consistent with both him and the demons that there are cases they were not physically present for things that they seem to know happened, making me think there's probably some way to view the events going on in the mansion in hell but that's a theory for another day), and only entered the mansion after claire died for the first time in order to save her...

i imagine seeing sirius dead for the first time must have been a shocker. in my hypothetical this is the first death he sees besides claire's, but to him it seems like the first because of how he doesn't remember claire's cause of death.
